VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have identified the two victims of a head-on collision on Interstate 94 in southeastern North Dakota.

The Highway Patrol says 35-year-old Kerseh Grupee of Fargo was driving the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes shortly before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25.  His car collided with an eastbound pickup truck driven by 31-year-old Anthony Cornelius of Crane Lake, Minnesota.

The crash happened about 12 miles west of Valley City. Both drivers were pronounced dead at a Valley City hospital. A passenger in the pickup was treated there for minor injuries and released.

Valley City  (CSi)  The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a car, pickup head-on crash about 12:23-a.m. Wednesday killed two people and injured another. The report says the crash happened on I-94 about 12 miles west of Valley City.

A Hyundai operated by a 35 year male from Fargo,  was westbound in the left eastbound lane.  A Ram pickup, operated by a 31 year old male from Crane Lake, Minnesota, was traveling eastbound  12 miles west of Valley City.  The Ram was passing in the left lane when it encountered the Hyundai traveling the wrong way.

A head on collision  occurred, with a slight offset to the drivers side of each vehicle.

The Hyundai continued west into the median.  The Ram pickup continued east onto the shoulder of the eastbound lanes.

Both vehicles remained upright with the driver of Hyudai, not seat belted, ejected.

The driver of the Ram was extricated and both transported to Mercy Hospital in Valley City, where they were pronounced dead.

A male passenger in the Ram pickup, from Orr, Minnesota, who was seat belted was taken to Mercy Hospital, for treatment of injures and released.

Names of the victims will be released later.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
