Tuesday Morning…Update…
Tues Feb 19, 2013…9-AM….The North Dakota Department of Transportation and North Dakota Highway Patrol have opened I-29 from Grand Forks to the Canadian Border and the No Travel Advisory for northeast North Dakota has been Lifted.
Snow plow crews are out in full force working to clear roads, so please remember to watch for plows and don’t crowd the plow.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Feb 18, 2013) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports on Monday, at about 8: 26 a.m., at mile marker 265, three miles east of Jamestown, a series of about three crashes resulted in a ten vechile pileup, which included six commercial vehicles, that closed I-94 for about five hours, to allow the scene to be investigated and ckean up.
Extremely high wind, blowing snow, drifting and very icy roads, caused eastbound traffic to either slow or stop.
Once this occurred rear end collisions and vehicles driving into the median and ditch began; two vehicles intentionally drove into the south ditch to avoid the massive wreck, totaling 12 vehicles, requiring towing.
The last vehicle involved in the incident occurred about 2 hours after I-94 had been closed, when an eastbound Illinios vehicle drove around the close barricade in Jamestown and collided with a wrecked semi that remained in the passing lane.
That vehicle was totaled, however, neither occupant was transported for injuries.
A total of five individuals transported by Jamestown Ambulance Service, to Jamestown Regional Medical Center were treated and released with minor injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
Also, North Dakota Highway 46, was closed for about two hours Monday while two jackknifed semis were removed about 4 miles east of Highway 281.
Early Monday evening, eastbound I-94 was again shutdown for about 45 minutes while a jackknifed semi blocking both eastbound lanes were removed.
Assisting the NDHP were the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.
In Minnesota, a fatal crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. Monday. A semi was westbound in the left land of I-94 as a Department of Transportation snowplow cleared the right lane. A motorist tried to drive between the vehicles, smashing into both.
Update
McVILLE, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a man who died in a snowmobile crash over the weekend.
Lt. Aaron Hummel said Tuesday that 59-year-old Michael Duane Barney of Michigan, N.D., was killed while traveling west on Horseshoe Lake. Barney’s snowmobile hit a slight grade and went airborne adjacent to Nelson County Road 35.
Police say Barney cleared the road, lost control of the snowmobile and rolled on the west side of Horshoe Lake. The accident occurred about 5:45 p.m. Sunday.
Barney was taken to Nelson County Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota woman is facing criminal charges in a vehicle-pedestrian accident that killed two people.
Sheila Morin has been indicted in federal court with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. She has pleaded not guilty.
Authorities say Morin was drunk on Oct. 27 when she caused the accident that killed 41-year-old Jennifer Crissler and 30-year-old Lacey Delorme.
Trial has been scheduled for April 23.
Lawyers in the case were not immediately available for comment.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Senate on Monday approved two anti-abortion bills that would ban the destruction of human embryos and outlaw abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Senators voted 30-17 to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy based on the disputed premise that at that point a fetus can feel pain. The measure is a challenge to the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion up until viability, usually at 22 to 24 weeks.
The embryo measure narrowly passed 24-23. The measure’s aim is to regulate in vitro fertilization and prohibit intentional destruction of embryos.
The bill also defines a human being as a fertilized egg and requires the state to expand Medicaid coverage to all pregnant women.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Microsoft could expand its Fargo-based campus as early as 2015. Microsoft’s local branch is running near 100 percent capacity in its three buildings. Site leader Don Morton says with significant growth projected, the computer giant may consider adding two new buildings.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – A new study documents a loss of 1.3 million acres of grassland over a five-year period in South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. The research by Christopher Wright and Michael Wimberly of the Geographic Information Science Center of Excellence at South Dakota State University says a doubling in commodity prices has created incentives for landowners to convert grassland to corn and soybean cropping.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Gov. Jack Dalrymple is slated to name North Dakota’s 2012 exporter of the year today in Bismarck.
The Exporter of the Year Award is presented to one North Dakota business each year that expands and supports international markets.
JM Grain of Garrison won the award in 2011.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Revenue risk management and effective farm labor strategies will be among the topics explored when soybean producers get together in Fargo.
The North Dakota Soybean Council will host the 2013 Northern Soybean Expo Tuesday in Fargo at the Holiday Inn. The title of the program is “Opportunity Knocks.”

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – The Minnesota Twins are being patient with pitcher Rich Harden. The right-hander is trying to win a job on the team after missing a season because of surgery on his rotator cuff. Harden started light throwing last July, and he’s with the Twins on a minor league contract.
UNDATED (AP) – Derek Jeter received an ovation that could be heard throughout Steinbrenner Field when he jogged onto the diamond for the New York Yankees’ first full-squad workout Monday.
Jeter took part in most of the team drills, including on-field batting practice for the first time since undergoing ankle surgery last October. The 38-year-old captain, who has been hitting in an indoor cage, also took part in a 25-minute defensive session at shortstop.
Although he didn’t take part in agility or running, Jeter got the day’s biggest salute from the several hundred fans present when he first appeared. They also cheered when he lined a ball to right on his first BP swing.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama welcomes emergency responders to the White House today and he plans to press his effort to avoid another kind of emergency — the so-called sequester. Obama will be urging congressional Republicans to accept more tax revenue in order to avert across-the-board budget cuts due to take effect in less than two weeks.
PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) – Prosecutors in South Africa say the death of model Reeva Steenkamp was premeditated murder. The attorney for Olympic Sprinter Oscar Pistorius says there was no murder at all, only an accidental shooting of Pistorius’ girlfriend. A magistrate says he has imposed the harshest bail requirements available in South African law on Pistorius, but he didn’t elaborate before a break in the session today.
LONDON (AP) – BP says it’s ready for a fight next week at a high-stakes civil trial on the Deepwater Horizon accident that resulted in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Rupert Bondy, the group’s general counsel, says settlement demands were “not based on reality or the merits of the case.” Billions of dollars are at stake.
BEIRUT (AP) – Anti-regime activists say at least eight people have been killed by a Syrian missile strike. Activists say what appeared to be a ground-to-ground missile leveled a stretch of buildings in the city of Aleppo. Videos posted online today showed scores of men searching the destroyed buildings.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – Strained relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan could get some relief after the arrest of a senior Pakistan Taliban commander in eastern Afghanistan. Two Pakistani intelligence officials confirmed the capture. Strained relations stem from accusations that Kabul is allowing Pakistani Taliban to operate from Afghanistan.
