The donor wishes to remain anonymous.
The gift is to be used toward a new library or expansion of existing facilities, or possibly purchase the former Jamestown Essentia Clinic site, if it’s still available, which would need approval by the Jamestown City Council, and Stutsman County Commission.
Library Board members have challenged the community to match or exceed the donation.
The board is looking into whether to hire a developer, possibly Bill Kennedy, when his position at Ave Maria Village is over.

Sha Littlewind of New Rockford pleaded guilty to attempted murder in Cass County on Tuesday.
Littlewind, who is either 25 or 26 years old, had been on probation for previous violent felonies at the time of the Oct. 10 attack.
According to a police affidavit, Littlewind told police he got into an argument and then started kicking and stomping the victim’s face. A witness told police that Littlewind had consumed about a half a gallon of vodka the day of the assault.
Court documents say he also told police he wanted to kill the victim.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A lifelong Fargo resident and military veteran has been awarded the Legion of Honor medal by the French government.
North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven presented Merle McMorrow with the medal at a ceremony on Wednesday.
The Legion of Honor is the highest decoration in France. McMorrow was honored for his extraordinary bravery in helping to liberate the country.
McMorrow enlisted in the military in April 1943. From May 1944 to December 1945, he fought in the battles of Rome-Amo, Southern France, the Ardennes, the Rhine Valley and Central Europe.
On Aug. 15, 1944, McMorrow was part of the landings in the south of France called Operation Dragoon that helped liberate St. Tropez, Le Muy, and La Motte. He also fought in Alsace-Lorraine and the Battle of the Bulge.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota appears ready to follow Mississippi’s lead in requiring that doctors who perform abortions have hospital-admitting privileges. It could mean a long legal battle.
The Red River Valley Women’s Clinic is North Dakota’s sole abortion clinic, performing about 1,200 abortions a year. It serves women primarily from North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota.
A bill in the state legislature would require doctors at the abortion clinic to acquire hospital credentials. Fargo clinic officials say it could be impossible for the doctors to meet those criteria, particularly when it comes to the minimum number of hospitals visits per year.
Mississippi passed a law last year that requires anyone doing abortions to be an OB-GYN with privileges to admit patients to the hospital.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Senate has approved a measure that funds military caskets for needy veterans.
The measure allocates $50,000 for the military caskets over the next two years.
The Senate passed the measure 28-18 on Wednesday. The measure now goes to the House for review.
Supporters of the measure say the aim is to give needy veterans a military casket instead of a so-called welfare casket, which can be made from cardboard or other inexpensive materials.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s House killed a measure Wednesday that would have made clothing sold at nonprofit thrift shops exempt from sales tax.

The agency estimates the tax exemption would have cost the state about $645,000 in revenue over the next two years.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Air traffic at Minot International Airport came to a brief halt this weekend after four de-icing trucks were all down for repair.
DGS is the Delta-owned ground handling service that provides de-icing at the airport.
Delta spokesman Michael Thomas tells the Minot Daily News that DGS had its fourth and final truck break down early Saturday morning. De-icing resumed after 9 a.m., but flights were delayed and one Delta flight was canceled.
DGS increased the number of available de-icing trucks in Minot after truck breakdowns grounded planes on Nov. 10 and 11. At the time, DGS had only a primary and a backup unit in Minot.
The airport reported Tuesday that mechanics flown in by Delta had three of the trucks operational again. A fourth truck remained down.

Ruff was relieved of his duties shortly after the team held a 90-minute practice, and a day after the Sabres were booed several times by their home fans during a 2-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
The 6-10-1 Sabres have gone 4-10-1 since opening the season with back-to-back wins.
