For beer and liquor license transfer request for County Bottle Shop, Inc. dba The Liquor Locker at 124 Central Avenue South. While a transfer it is also a new liquor license.
Following the Public Hearing Commissioners approved the beer and liquor license transfer request for County Bottle Shop, Inc. dba The Liquor Locker at 124 Central Avenue South.
RESOLUTION
The City Commission approved a Resolution accepting the Final Plans and Specifications for Paving Improvement District 115 (SU-2-990(055)059) and authorizing Engineer to Advertise for bid. KLJ explained the area includes a portion of 3rd Avenue, Southeast.
Approved a Resolution accepting Final Plans and Specifications for Storm Sewer Improvement District 51 and authorizing Engineer to Advertise for bid. KLJ said the area is near the Winter Show building to improve drainage.
Approved a Resolution accepting Final Plans and Specifications for Sanitary Sewer Improvement District 62 and authorizing Engineer to Advertise for bid. KLJ said the work entail sewer line, re-lining.
Approved a Resolution a pproving the Bid and Awarding Contract for John Deere Water Tower Recoating. KLJ said the low bid from McGuire was $59,000.
NEW BUSINESS
Approved a tobacco license for County Bottle Shop Inc. dba The Liquor Locker at 124 Central Avenue S
Approved a tobacco license for Leevers Foods, Inc. at 148 South Central Avenue.
City Commissioners approved an Application for Property Tax Exemption Improvements to 628 11th Ave SW. City Assessor Hansen said the request is for improvements to the newly named Ridgeview Apartments, which will significantly improve the value.
Approved a Special Alcoholic Beverage Permit for City Lights for a VCSU event at the Barnes County Museum.
Approved transferring property from Valley City to NDDOT, for installation of a box culvert for hillside stabilization and drainage near the underpass area. The Commission approves that the land be deeded.
CITY ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT
David Schelkoph said starting March 12th Main Street will be closed for several months for the permanent flood protection project. KLJ reports detour routes have been established, with public announcements coming soon.

Commissioner Bishop thanked city fire fighters and city police for their service to the public.
Mayor Carlsrud noted extra worked performed during the recent snow storms by the street department for plowing, and with modifications in garbage collections, and at the transfer station.

Jamestown (CSi) With one more competition this weekend in Fergus Falls, the James River Figure Skaters have had another very successful season of competition skating.
On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Judy Jorgensen said, among the successes, the Club’s three senior skaters all qualified for the Archie Vraa Artistic competition in Moorhead, Minnesota, as only the top two skaters in each group are chosen to compete.
This season the Club attended five competitions. Over all the skaters won 135 metals this season, with 12 fourth place finishes, 23 third place, 33 second place, and 67 first place.
Judy pointed out that competitive skaters test before a panel of judges in three competitive disciplines, include the categories of moves in the field (figure skating) free skate and dance.
Also on our show, Judy said this year’s Ice Show’s theme is “Magnificent Musicals.”

Tickets are available in advance at $8 for adults, $6 for students, and two dollars more at the door.

Judy added that this year’s Ice Show will feature six alumni skaters, returning, and Jamestown High School Hockey players number on the program.
Judy will return to the show on March 14th joined by Coach Mark Vasarhelyi.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Health officials say Fargo’s first needle exchange program could be operational within a month.
The Fargo/Cass Public Health Department is administering the program aimed at providing addicts not only with clean needles, but with resources for treatment and health care.
The department’s substance abuse prevention coordinator, Robyn Litke Sall, tells KFGO there has been an alarming increase in diseases such as Hepatitis C in the last five years. And, that it’s largely attributed to the use of dirty needles by drug addicts.
The exchange program will operate in a vacant, city-owned building. State approval is pending.

Sioux City, IA In the NAIA Division II Women’s National Basketball Tournament First Round action on Thursday afternoon, the Valley City State Vikings season came to an end, defeated by The University of St. Francis 56-47.
The Fighting Saints (21-9) go on in the tournament to take on College of the Ozarks on Friday.
The Vikings finish the season at 25-5 a school record for wins in a season, and won this season’s Women’s NSAA Championship.
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — Three finalists have been chosen for the North Dakota Miss Basketball award. Seniors Anna Holen from LaMoure-Litchville-Marion, North Star’s Stephanie Miller and Raegan Linster of Fargo Davies have been nominated by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. The award will be announced after the Class A girls state championship game on Saturday in Fargo.
Minneapolis (AP) For Derrick Rose, what’s old is new again. Rose has signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves in a move that reunites the 2011 NBA MVP with three mainstays from his days in Chicago — coach Tom Thibodeau, as well as Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson. The Timberwolves did not release the terms, but a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that the deal is for the remainder of the season.

LONDON (AP) — British police now say a total of roughly 21 people have sought treatment after a nerve agent was used to attack and ex-Russian spy and his daughter. Wiltshire acting police chief Kier Pritchard told Sky News on Thursday that “a number” of those people got blood tests, support and hospital advice. He says only three people remain hospitalized.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The most comprehensive study of online fake information finds that false stories on Twitter travel six times faster and reach way more people than the truth. An MIT study out Thursday looked at 126,000 stories on Twitter since 2006 _ most of them false _ and found the fake stuff was way more viral. Researchers say it’s not just bots. Humans love the outlandish and novel, and social media amplifies that.
BOSTON (AP) — Authorities say a man died in New Jersey after he drove his car around some traffic cones meant to warn motorists to stay away from a downed live wire. Police in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, say it appears the vehicle hit the wire, which sparked a fire that engulfed the car at about 9 a.m. Thursday. The area received about 2 feet snow during this week’s storm.
