Tracy Freer was killed when a pickup struck him shortly after midnight on Nov. 21 in the Queen City Motel parking lot.

Investigators say Freer had been had been letting his dog out to use the bathroom when he was struck and dragged about 15 feet.

Freer owned the motel with his wife, Roberta, who had offered a $5,000 reward for information in the case.

The  suspect, a 47-year-old man, was arrested Monday.

Two others are charged in the case. Earlier this year, 30-year-old Travis Johnson rejected a plea deal and will stand trial on charges of human trafficking and felony corruption of a minor. He also allegedly had sex with the girl.

In world and national news…

CHICAGO (AP) – Officials in Chicago are working to keep Lake Shore Drive safe as a snowstorm bears down. Chicago could get up to 10 inches of snow by the end of the day. Officials are trying to avoid a repeat of scenes from two years ago, when a blizzard stranded hundreds of people on the world-famous road. Plows and salt-spreading trucks are in easier striking distance of Lake Shore Drive. And they started treating the roadway hours before snow began falling.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) – It’s been 60 years since the signing of a cease-fire that ended the Korean War — but today, North Korea is threatening to cancel that agreement. The North is reacting to a resolution being introduced by the United States, and supported by China, at the United Nations. It would slap North Korea with new sanctions aimed at limiting the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The resolution reflects growing anger over the North’s defiance of three earlier resolutions.

NEW YORK (AP) – The last time the Dow was this high, Apple had just sold its first iPhone, and George W. Bush still had a year remaining as president. The stock index surged past its all-time high Tuesday, climbing more than 150 points early in the day. The gains followed advances on stock markets around the world earlier in the day.

NEW YORK (AP) – Martha Stewart has been testifying Tuesday that she did nothing wrong when she signed an agreement to open up shops within most of the J.C. Penney stores across the country. She testified in New York as part of a battle over whether the company that she founded breached its contract to sell some items exclusively at Macy’s.      WASHINGTON (AP) – According to new federal numbers, the amount of heat-trapping carbon dioxide in the air jumped dramatically last year. And the figures suggest that it’s very unlikely that global warming can be limited to another 2-degree increase. Many governments have set that as the upper limit. Scientists say the rise in CO2 reflects the global economy revving up and burning more fossil fuels, especially in China.
