Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Public Works is informing residents that due to the changing weather conditions causing extremely muddy conditions in the alleys, the City Sanitation Department announces that effective Monday, March 19, 2018, the City Sanitation crews will no longer be picking up garbage in the alleyways.
Until further notice, please place garbage containers on the boulevard no further than 3’ from the curb on your scheduled pick up day.
Please place garbage out for pick up by 7:00 a.m. Trucks WILL NOT return to the area due to missed garbage placed out after the scheduled garbage route has been completed.
Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown’s newest health care clinic, the urgent care and primary care clinic opens on Monday March 19 at 7-a.m.
From Salt Lake City President and CEO of Medallus Medical Dr. Rachot Vacharothone, said on Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, that the clinic is located at 723 First Avenue South, (formally Rent A Center), in Jamestown, next to the UPS Store, and will provide urgent care, primary care and occupational medicine services.
Initially, the clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7-a.m., to 4-p.m.
Starting April 13th the clinic will be open seven days a week from 7-a.m., to 7-p.m.
Walk-ins are taken for urgent care, an appointment required for primary care.
Health care providers will include: clinic nurse practitioner, Roxanne Johnson, family medicine and mental health.
Staff includes Jody Tanner, family medicine, and urgent care, and Dr. Rachot Vacharothone, internal medicine, and urgent care. Dr. Rachot said more staff will be added, in the coming weeks.
Urgent Care includes such areas as treating sore throats, fever, earache sinusitis and pneumonia, and acute injury including cuts, sprains, broken bones sports injuries, auto accident, X-rays, and in-house lab. A patient will, if necessary, be referred to Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Primary Care includes, physical exams, including annual checkups, wellness, and sports physicals, along with treating chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid, asthma, arthritis, depression, and anxiety.
Occupational Medicine includes, urine screening, pre-employment physicals, first aid care, work injury management, and biometric screening.
The average cost of the on site clinic will be $131 per visit. The average time with the patient is 20 minutes compared to 12 minutes in a standard clinic setting.
Also on our show customer service representative Brian Christiansen said, those without insurance should not hesitate in come in for treatment.
He added that there are a number of payment options, including billing insurance providers, and a membership plan, where patients can sign up for a one year membership, at a cost of $50 per month, with a $10 per visit co-pay. Otherwise the cost per visit is about $150.
He said that the average wait to see a healthcare provider is somewhat shorter than the average clinic wait, depending on the volume of patients being seen on any given day.
He pointed out that the average time spent with a patient is about 20 minutes, compared to 12 minutes in a standard clinic setting.
The clinic was approved by the Jamestown Public School Board’s Health Insurance Committee which recommended the agreement with Medallus Medical in March of last year, siting the need for a near-site, clinic .
Committee member Robert Toso said the community has been also been asking for a similar clinic.
Jamestown (CSi) Runnin O’ The Green organizer, Larry Knoblich says 1,776 participants registered for the annual fundraising event on Saturda , compared to 1,725 who registered last year. The were 926 preregistered participants and 850 registered on Saturday.
The total funds raised will be announced when businesses reports come in.
The Run raises money donated to the Elks Club Camp Grassick and for people affected by cancer.

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC) is tackling the area’s workforce development challenges in 2018. As part of the process, the JSDC has been working with a consultant to develop recommendations and solutions for attracting more people who want to live and work in Jamestown and Stutsman County. An online survey will be sent to local businesses this month by the JSDC. The goal is to gather input from local employers about the challenges they face when searching for employees.
JSDC, CEO, Connie Ova says, “We are hoping our local business leaders will share information with us about the number and type of positions they currently have open. What education or skills are necessary to fill these positions? Do they have suggestions for training programs or community improvements that would make it easier to recruit people to work here? That’s the type of information that will help us improve our workforce development initiatives in Jamestown and Stutsman County.”

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Former state lawmaker Mac Schneider of Grand Forks has won the endorsement of North Dakota Democratic convention delegates to run for the U.S. House.
Schneider is a businessman and attorney. He served in the state Senate from 2009 until his defeat for re-election in 2016.
North Dakota’s lone House seat is being vacated by Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer, who is running against Sen. Heidi Heitkamp.
Democrats hope to seize the opportunity to pick up a House seat in a strongly conservative state.
Schneider was chosen over state Sen. John Grabinger of Jamestown and former state Rep. Ben Hanson of Fargo. All three had pledged to drop out of contest if passed over.
On the Republican side, state senators Kelly Armstrong and Tom Campbell have announced bids for Cramer’s House seat.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Democrats have endorsed candidates for attorney general, agriculture commissioner and the Public Service Commission.
Grand Forks lawyer David Thompson was unopposed Friday for the Democratic endorsement for the state’s top law enforcement officer, a position Republican Wayne Stenehjem has held for nearly two decades.
Delegates meeting at the state convention in Grand Forks also endorsed longtime state Sen. Jim Dotzenrod of Wyndmere for agriculture commissioner. Doug Goehring is the Republican incumbent.
Delegates unanimously endorsed two newcomers for the Public Service Commission.
Casey Buchmann, an iron worker from Washburn, was endorsed for the seat now held by Republican Brian Kroshus. Jean Brandt, who works for an oilfield services company in northwestern North Dakota, is the endorsed candidate for the seat now held by the GOP’s Randy Christmann.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp is telling fellow Democrats in her home state of North Dakota to have hope for their party. Heitkamp is North Dakota’s only Democratic statewide officeholder and is facing a tough re-election fight from GOP Rep. Kevin Cramer in a conservative-leaning state. North Dakota delegates endorsed Heitkamp at the party’s convention in Grand Forks in a race that’s expected to be one of the nation’s toughest, with Democrats hoping to hold onto the seat and pick up others.
Fargo Democrat Josh Boschee the minority leader in the North Dakota House of Representatives, unanimously won the Democratic endorsement for secretary of state, a seat held by Al Jaeger since 1992.
Jaeger, a Republican who announced his bid for re-election, faces a challenger in his own party. Mandan businessman Will Gardner also will seek the GOP endorsement next month
The state Democratic Party Chair Kylie Oversen was tapped for tax commissioner, who likely will face incumbent Ryan Rauschenberger.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A garage fire has damaged an apartment building in Fargo, but authorities say everyone inside the building was able to escape safely.
The fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. Sunday in south Fargo. Firefighters arrived to find the four-car garage engulfed in flames and extending into the apartments’ attic space.
Residents reported one man had gone back into the building and not come out, and at least one other person reportedly was still inside the building. But officials say no victims were found because they had left through other doors.
The fire caused significant damage to one garage and moderate damage to one of the eight apartments. Damage is estimated at $150,000. Residents of six units are displaced.
No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
STEELE, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota drilling company is struggling to stay in operation a year after the owner learned a secretary made unauthorized payments to herself.
Larry Magstadt is the owner of Northland Boring LLC. The Burleigh County contractor does horizontal directional drilling. Magstadt says he lost nearly $700,000 to former employee Melinda Strom.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that Strom pleaded guilty March 9 to a felony charge of misapplication of entrusted property. She admitted only that the amount exceeded $50,000.
A hearing is scheduled for April 9 to decide how much Strom will be ordered to pay Magstadt in restitution.
Magstadt says he’s close to losing lose his business, which has also been affected by an industry slowdown.

The North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, has announced, that Stanley High School forward Wyatt Hanson has capped off his high school basketball career by being named the 37th recipient of the Mr. Basketball award Saturday, March 17 at the Bismarck Events Center in Bismarck.
The award is presented annually to the top senior player in the state by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.Hanson tallied 11 of 20 first place votes and received 69 points based on a 5-3-1 voting scale.
Finishing second in the voting was Kyler McGillis of St. John with one first place vote and 37 points.
Trae Steckler of Mandan was third with 5 first place votes and 32 points followed by Joe Pistorius of West Fargo with 1 first place vote and 23 points and Fargo Oak Grove’s Andrew Christianson with 1 first place vote and 19 points.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.(uj.edu) — Bryn Woodside (SR/Albert Lea, MN) was named to the 2017-18 NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball All-America second team, the national conference announced Thursday.
Woodside was named both North Star Athletic Association Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year this season. She became the first player in the history of the conference to win both awards in the same season.
Woodside averaged 12.5 points and 4 assists in helping the Jimmies to a school-record 31 wins in 2017-18.

NCAA-DIVISION I HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Three Minnesota teams made the 16-team field for the NCAA Division I men’s hockey tournament, but not the University of Minnesota.
The Gophers and another hockey powerhouse, the University of North Dakota, were not among tournament teams announced Sunday.
St. Cloud State, Minnesota State University and Minnesota Duluth will play in the West Regional at Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Friday and Saturday.
No. 1 seed SCSU plays No. 16 Air Force at 3 p.m. Friday. MSU, the No. 6 overall seed, plays No. 12 UMD at 6:30 p.m.
The regional championship is 8 p.m. Saturday on CSi 18 – ESPN2. This year’s West Regional is hosted by the University of North Dakota.
The Frozen Four is April 5 and 7 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
NCAA TOURNAMENT…
UNDATED (AP) — The Syracuse Orange were the last team selected to the NCAA Tournament and had to take on Arizona State in a First Four game just to make the field of 64. The 11th-seeded Orange now find themselves in the Sweet 16 following a 55-53 victory over No. 3 Michigan State at Detroit.
Tyus Battle had 17 points for Syracuse, which didn’t allow a basket over the final 5:41. Oshae Barrett finished with 15 points to help the Orange earn a meeting with second seed Duke in the Midwest Region semifinals in Omaha.
The Spartans missed their last 13 shots, including Cassius Winston’s 45-foot heave just before the final horn. Winston had a team-high 15 points for Michigan State, which shot a miserable 8-for-37 from 3-point range.
Meanwhile, second-seed North Carolina was shown the door by Texas A&M.
T.J. Sparks scored 21 points and the seventh-seeded Aggies outrebounded the Tar Heels 50-36 in an 86-65 romp over the defending national champions
— Seventh seed Nevada never led until Josh Hall nailed a short jumper with 9.1 seconds left to complete the Wolf Pack’s comeback in a 75-73 win against No. 2 Cincinnati. Nevada trailed by 22 with 11 minutes remaining against the Bearcats, one game after climbing out of a 14-point, second-half hole against Texas. Cody Martin had 25 points, seven assists, six rebounds and no turnovers to lead five Nevada players in double figures. The outcome sets up a matchup of stunners in the South Region semifinals as Nevada takes on No. 11 Loyola-Chicago.
— UMBC ran out of miracles in a 50-43 loss to ninth seed Kansas State, two days after the Retrievers became the first No. 16 seed to beat a No. 1 team in men’s tournament history. Xavier Sneed provided a couple big buckets late to help the Wildcats hold on and move on to the Sweet 16. Barry Brown had a team-high 18 points for Kansas State, which takes on Kentucky in the South Region semifinals.
— Gabe DeVoe dropped in 22 points and No. 5 Clemson closed the first half on a 25-4 run in an 84-53 blowout over fourth-seeded Auburn. Elijah Thomas had 18 points and 11 rebounds in helping the Tigers reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in 21 years. Kansas will be Clemson’s next opponent in the Midwest Region semifinals at Omaha.
— Florida State’s 75-70 comeback over Xavier leaves the tournament without a pair of No. 1 seeds and the defending champions. PJ Savoy nailed a 3-pointer with 1:08 remaining to give the Seminoles their first lead of the second half after trailing 56-44 with 10:42 to play. Braian Angola had a team-high 16 points for the Seminoles, who will face fourth-seeded Gonzaga on Thursday in the West Region semis in Los Angeles.
— Purdue has advanced to the East Region semifinals against Texas Tech in Boston. Vincent Edwards scored 20 points and Dakota Mathias made a clutch 3-pointer with 14.2 seconds left as the second-seeded Boilermakers downed No. 10 Butler, 76-73. Purdue center Isaac Haas had hoped to play after breaking his right elbow in Friday’s win over Cal State Fullerton, but he wasn’t allowed to play with a bulky brace that protected the injury.

UNDATED (AP) — Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward Jimmy Butler says he could return to the court before the end of the regular season if he stays on track with his rehabilitation from knee surgery.
Butler was expected to be out four to six weeks after suffering a meniscus injury during a Feb. 23 game at Houston. He said he’s confident in both his ability to heal in time and the team’s ability to hang on to a playoff berth.

PGA-PALMER INVITATIONAL
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Rory McIlroy birdied five of his final six holes to close with an 8-under 64 and win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
McIlroy capped his charge by sinking a 25-foot putt, giving him his first victory since September 2016. The final birdie left him two shots ahead of Bryson DeChambeau.
Tiger Woods was one shot off the lead until hitting out-of-bounds on the 16th hole to fall back into a tie for fifth.
Justin Rose was third, four shots back and one ahead of third-round leader Henrik Stenson.
NASCAR-FONTANA
FONTANA, Calif. (AP) — NASCAR’s reigning Cup champ has his first win of the year.
Martin Truex Jr. easily held off defending Fontana champ Kyle Larson to win the Auto Club 400 at the California track. Truex dominated after Kevin Harvick’s quest for a fourth consecutive victory essentially ended with an early smack into the wall.
Truex led 125 laps overall while winning both stages and finishing 11 seconds ahead of Larson.
Kyle Busch was third, followed by Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano.

UNDATED (AP) — Minnesota Twins shortstop Jorge Polanco has been suspended 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
Polanco tested positive for Stanozolol and became the sixth player to be banned this year under the major league drug program, one more than last year.
Polanco hit .256 with 13 home runs and 74 RBIs last season while starting 127 games at shortstop.

— Mets left-hander Jason Vargas is expected to miss four to six weeks after fracturing a bone in his right hand. The 35-year-old was hit on the hand by a line drive during a minor league game Friday. New York signed Vargas to a two-year, $16 million contract after he went 18-11 with a 4.16 ERA for the Royals last season.
— The Royals have signed right-handed reliever Justin Grimm to a one-year, $1.25 million contract, a package that includes up to $300,000 incentives. Grimmo was 1-2 with a 5.53 ERA in 50 appearances last season for the Cubs, who released him last week.
