Jamestown  (CSi)  The Jamestown Area Grief Support Team is offering a grief support group for anyone who is grieving the loss of someone important to that person, whether the loss is recent or from years past. The group will meet once a week at 7 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church, 302 2nd Ave. SE in Jamestown beginning on Tuesday, April 3, and will run for six weeks.

On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 Eileen Lisko said, In his book, “Understanding Your Grief,” internationally recognized expert in the field of loss and grief Dr. Alan Wolfelt says, “You can benefit from a connectedness that comes from people who have also had a death in their lives. Support groups, where people come together and share the common bond of experience, can be invaluable in helping you and your grief and supporting your need to mourn long after the event of the death”

People who have had a significant loss are often expected to be “over it” in a matter of a few weeks. They may even expect this of themselves. In reality, it may take years for someone to work through his or her grief. The support group experience allows individuals to express grief in their own unique way and on their own unique timetable.

Also on our show, Diane Witzig added, the group is free of charge, however, participants are asked to register to ensure that enough materials are available. Participants should plan to attend all six sessions. For more information, or to register, call Diane at 320-4915 or Eileen 269-4521.

REYNOLDS, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol says two children have died in an interstate crash that seriously injured two others in Grand Forks County.

The patrol says an SUV skidded out of control in the ice and snow on Interstate 29 near Reynolds Sunday and into the path of a semi. A 1-year-old and 9-year-old were killed when the semi hit the passenger side of the vehicle. The children died at the scene.

KFGO reports the SUV’s driver, a 30-year-old Fargo woman, and a 3-year-old female passenger were seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Grand Forks. Their conditions are not known.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A prosecutor has cleared a Bismarck police officer who shot and wounded a fleeing suspect who tried to run him over.

Ward County State’s Attorney Rozanna Larson found that Officer Lane Masters “acted reasonably and justifiably” when he shot 22-year-old Ulises Villalobos-Alvarado in January.

Bismarck Police Chief Dan Donlin says the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation. The Burleigh County State’s Attorney’s Office tells The Bismarck Tribune Ward County reviewed the case to avoid a conflict of interest involving a Bismarck officer.

Authorities were conducting a probation search when Villalobos-Alvarado reportedly fled the scene in Bismarck. He was shot in the arm and later turned himself in at a gas station in Brookings, South Dakota.

Donlin says Masters, a five-year Bismarck officer, has returned to regular duty.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — Residents have started a project to bring the popular Little Free Libraries book exchange stations to all six elementary schools in Mandan.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that there are 13 Little Free Libraries in neighboring Bismarck, and now the book swapping program will be brought across the Missouri River.

The group Leadership Bismarck-Mandan 2018 is leading the effort as a way to enhance the community and promote literacy.

With the motto “Take a book, return a book,” the small, house-like structures contain various genres and books for all ages.

Amber Larson, a group participant, says placing the Little Free Libraries at elementary schools doesn’t mean it’s just for kids. She says the schools serve as great locations in residential areas, but the project is meant to benefit the entire community.
