Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) – The Jamestown City Engineer reports that seal coating of asphalt roadways will take place in the Street maintenance District to include areas south of 8th St SE from 2nd Ave SE east to the city limits (railroad tracks).
This area includes McElroy Park and the baseball diamonds, residential streets and alleys in the district, the Oxbow area, State Hospital Road, and 10th St SE.
The Seal Coat work will begin Tuesday, July 31, 2012 and be completed approximately Friday, August 3, 2012, weather permitting.
Please follow the posted signage in and around these areas!
Extreme caution should be used when entering road construction areas. The public should consider alternate routes if possible.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A longtime state senator, a retired Fargo school administrator and a data processing executive are finalists for the North Dakota Board of Higher Education.
A screening committee on Monday chose David Nething, Rick Buresh and Kari Reichert (RY’-kurt) for the opening.
Incumbent board member Richie Smith of Wahpeton recently resigned. Gov. Jack Dalrymple has to choose someone to fill out the 11 months left on Smith’s term.
Nething is a Republican state senator from Jamestown. He is a former Senate majority leader and chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Nething is leaving the Senate this year.
Buresh retired last month as Fargo school superintendent. He spent five years in the job.
Reichert is a lawyer and a vice president of a cooperative data processing company in Mandan.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Frontier Village in Jamestown is hosting the Annual “Pioneer Days,” August 4 & 5, 2012.
On Monday’s (Jul 30, 2012) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Frontier Village Manager Tina Busche, said, on August 4th, the activities will include the Pet Parade.
She said this is the first Pet Parade to be held at the village. Prizes will be awarded for dogs and cats in various categories.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Farmers Union is
contributing $5,000 to a reward fund set up for information to
leading to a conviction in the shooting deaths of nine Oliver
County cattle on the Fourth of July.
That increases the reward fund to $18,000. The North Dakota
Stockmen’s Association says it’s the largest such reward in state
history.
State Farmers Union President Woody Barth says the organization
is concerned that someone would randomly shoot and kill cattle.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) – A reminder, the North Dakota Department of Transportation will host a public input meeting Wednesday (Aug 1, 2012),at The Quality Inn and Suites, from 7-pm to 9-pm.

MEDORA, N.D. (AP) – An eight-mile stretch of the popular Maah
Daah Hey Trail in the western North Dakota Badlands is closed
because of a wildlfire.
The U.S. Forest Service says the Plumely Draw Fire has blackened
51 acres about eight miles south of Medora.
No structures have been threatened and no injuries have been reported, but the trail used by bikers, hikers and horseback riders is closed from the Bully
Pulpit Trailhead to Plumely Trailhead.
Forest Service spokeswoman Babete (ba-BEHT’) Anderson tells The
Dickinson Press that the fire might have been started by lightning,
likely over the weekend.
The Maah Daah Hey Trail connects the northern and southern
portions of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It runs about 100
miles. It attracts thousands of people each year.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man who’s accused of killing his mother
and stealing her car says he’s not guilty.
Dean Grenstiner made his pleas Monday during a brief appearance
in state district court in Bismarck.
Judge Donald Jorgensen says Grenstiner’s next court date is Aug.
27.
Grenstiner’s arraignment was delayed so he could undergo an
independent psychiatric examination. However, his plea Monday
didn’t make any reference to his mental health.
Grenstiner is being held without bail on charges that he beat
his mother to death in her home last March. Authorities say
Grenstiner was living with his mother, Ann Grenstiner, for several
weeks before she was killed.
Grenstiner was also charged with stealing his mother’s car. He
was arrested in Moorhead, Minn., the day after his mother’s body
was discovered.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The man accused of murdering two
children in their home on the Spirit Lake Nation reservation in
North Dakota last year will remain in jail until his trial.
Nineteen-year-old Valentino Bagola, of St. Michael, waived his
right to a detention hearing that was scheduled for Monday.
His three-day federal trial in Grand Forks is scheduled to begin Sept.
24. He could face life in prison if convicted.
Bagola has pleaded not guilty to killing 9-year-old Destiny Shaw
and her 6-year-old brother, Travis DuBois Jr. Authorities say the
children’s mother found them dead under a mattress in their home in
St. Michael on May 21, 2011. They had been stabbed to death.
Bagola also is accused of sexual abuse and child abuse.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Three people arrested in a North Dakota counterfeit case have been charged in federal court.
Shawn Patton and Kasi Switzer, both of Las Vegas, are accused of manufacturing at least $10,000 in bogus bills. Authorities say Switzer and Travis Linseth passed the bills to several businesses in Watford City.
Preliminary hearings are scheduled Thursday in Bismarck.
The three defendants were originally arrested by Watford City police, which had received complaints from local banks about counterfeit bills.
A federal public defender was not immediately available for comment.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – While some areas of North Dakota received much-needed rainfall last week, other parts of the state were desperate for precipitation for row crops and livestock.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in its weekly crop, livestock and weather report that 33 percent of barley, 14 percent of Durum wheat, 26 percent of spring wheat and 37 percent of oats are harvested.
Pasture and range conditions were 38 poor or very poor, 38 fair and 24 good or excellent.
The USDA says temperatures were above normal across the state. Precipitation was above normal in central parts of the state. It was below normal in much of the rest of the state.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – The farm aid organization Farm Rescue this fall will help its 200th farmer in the Upper Midwest.
The first man to receive help from the organization says he’s a little surprised that it has grown so quickly.
Matt Biel (beel) lost a hand in a farming accident in February 2006. Farm Rescue volunteers showed up at his southwest North Dakota farm two months later to help him plant his crops.
He says he was wary at first but it turned out to be a great thing.
North Dakota-based Farm Rescue has since expanded to help farmers in need in South Dakota, Montana, Minnesota and Iowa.
It has a database of about 1,000 volunteers around the country. Biel says the volunteers are a big part of Farm Rescue’s success.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Brothers Billy and Marty Cariveau
caught nine catfish weighing just under 76 1/2 pounds to win the
annual Red River catfish tournament in the Grand Forks area.
Billy Cariveau is from Fargo and Marty Cariveau is from East
Grand Forks, Minn. They beat the runners-up by about half a pound this weekend to take home the top prize of $3,712. A total of 116 boats took part in the
tournament.
The Cariveau brothers have competed in the tournament for 10
years. The highest they had finished previously was fifth.

– The Los Angeles Dodgers have bolstered their bullpen for a playoff run, acquiring former All-Star reliever Brandon League from the Seattle Mariners for two prospects.

LONDON (AP) – Candace Parker had 14 points and 12 rebounds yesterday to lead the U.S. women to a 90-38 rout of Angola in the Olympic basketball tournament.
Minnesota native Lindsay Whalen added nine points for the U.S. team. The Americans have won their last 35 games in the Olympics.
LONDON (AP)- Misty May-Treanor (TRAY’-nur) and Kerri Walsh, defending gold medal champions in women’s beach volleyball, beat Czechs Marketa Slukova (sloo-KOH’-vuh) and Kristyna Kolocova (krihs-TEEN’-uh koh-loh-KOH’-vah) 21-14 21-19 last night.
It was the 16th consecutive Olympic victory for the two-time gold medalists.
LONDON (AP)- Missy Franklin gave a much-needed boost to U.S. swimming, coming back less than 14 minutes after swimming a semifinal heat to win the 100-meter backstroke.
It’s the first gold medal of what figures to be a dazzling career for the 17-year-old Franklin.
LONDON (AP) – Michael Phelps has yet to score gold in the London games, but there has been other men’s successes in the swimming competition at the London Games.
Americans Matt Grevers and Nick Thoman had a 1-2 finish in the men’s 100 backstroke.

The Americans were leading after qualifying but fell to fifth place in the final standings. China won the gold, followed by Japan and Great Britain.
It was the first gymnastics medal for the British men in a century.
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) – Today’s Olympic tennis schedule at the All England Club includes the intriguing matchup of Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) and Andy Roddick.
Djokovic is the tournament’s second seed while Roddick is unseeded. But they are playing on the grass surface where Roddick has made two runs to the Wimbledon final.
The Williams sisters stole the show on Monday. Venus and Serena posted singles victories before teaming up for a doubles win.
Andy Roddick, John Isner and Varvara Lepchenko helped the Americans to a 6-0 start in tennis play.
LONDON (AP) – The early medal count has China leading with nine golds and is tied with the U.S. with 17 overall medals.
The United States has five golds with Japan third with 11 overall medals.
LONDON (AP) – Organizers at the London Olympics say 2.1 million people attended events in the first three full days of competition.
They say 86 percent of ticket-holders showed up Saturday, 92 percent Sunday and 88 percent Monday. Games organizers have been criticized because swaths of empty seats have appeared on television and in photographs.
Organizers say 856,000 attended events Saturday, including a “conservative” estimate of 500,000 on the men’s cycling road race route.
It was 900,000 on Sunday, when eight men’s soccer matches were played. An estimated 300,000 lined the women’s cycling route. Monday’s overall attendance was 370,000.
Organizing committee spokeswoman Jackie Brock-Doyle says it won’t publish breakdowns of each sport’s attendance.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Jacque (ZHAHK) Vaughn says he’s humbled and excited to become the Magic’s next head coach.
The 37-year-old takes over the team with the status of star center Dwight Howard uncertain.
Howard has asked to be traded and made it clear he doesn’t want to remain with the Magic.
Vaughn takes over for Stan Van Gundy, who was fired in May. He has no head coaching experience, but has served as an assistant coach with San Antonio.

NEW DELHI (AP) – More than 600 million people are without

Even electric crematoria stopped operating, some with bodies half burnt.
More than half the country has no power.
OSLO, Norway (AP) – The U.S. Embassy in Norway has been
evacuated after security staff found a suspicious object under a
nearby automobile.
Norwegian police say the embassy and the
surrounding area, including the royal palace, have been cleared of
people in the heart of Norway’s capital, and that a bomb squad with
sniffer dogs has been sent there.
CHICAGO (AP) – Testimony about the disappearance and possible
death of Drew Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy, won’t be allowed in
court when jurors begin hearing evidence about the death of
Peterson’s third wife Kathleen Savio.
Opening statements are this morning in Joliet, Illinois. Savio was found dead in a bathtub in 2004.
Stacy Peterson disappeared in 2007.
