Roseleen Mary (Burke) Arneson – June 18, 2019

Posted by KCSi News in Obits on June 19, 2019 4:09 pm / no comments

Mary Roseleen (Burke) Arneson passed away in her home peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the age of 79 with her dogs by her side; she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Roseleen, known as Rose by those who loved her, was born on August 8, 1939 in Motherwell, County of Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Derrick Burke and Hannah Theresa (Harkins) Burke.

After serving in the British Women’s Royal Naval Service (WREN), Rose immigrated to the United States. In 1960 she arrived in New York City and worked until moving to Fargo, North Dakota. In Fargo, Rose worked as bookkeeper for her brother-in-law and honorably served in the North Dakota National Guard. Eventually, she settled in Jamestown, North Dakota, where she married Gary Arneson on July 11, 1986.

In 1982, Rose’s care-giving nature led her to accept a job as a caseworker at Alpha Opportunities. There, she continued to generously serve individuals with developmental disabilities until her retirement in 2015. Serving people with special needs brought Rose great joy.

Throughout her life, Rose was known for being fun loving, selfless, and thoughtful of others. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and a NASCAR fanatic. Rose loved animals, helping others, and traveling. Some of her favorite adventures were traveling to New Zealand to see her sister Maree and her family, as well as traveling to New England to see her sister Noreen and her family.

Rose was preceded in death by her father Derrick, her mother Hannah, and her eldest sister Maree. She is survived by her husband Gary; sister Noreen; nephews Michael, Derrick, Christopher, and Niall; and nieces Katrina and Sharon. Rose will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and loved ones.

The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2019, 1:00pm at Eddy Funeral Home, 621 1st Ave S, Jamestown North Dakota. In lieu of flowers, Rose requested that a tree or shrub be planted in her memory. Alternatively, she has asked for donations to one of the following charities: The Humane Society of the United States (https://secure.humanesociety.org) or Prairie Paws Rescue, Jamestown North Dakota (http://www.prairiepawsrescue.com).

Arrangements are in the care of Eddy Funeral Home.
