Widespread rain between a half and 1 inch and localized amounts of up to 2 inches, is expected in the area from the Albert Clipper type system.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Jamestown Police is warning residents that a convicted sex offender, has changed his address.

Jeremy Scott Lundgren now lives at 2209 Cottage Lane in Jamestown.

He has no vehicle.

Lundgren is a 33 year old white male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 206 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.

Lundgren has been assigned a High Risk Assessment by the North Dakota Risk Level Committee, of the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.

Lundgren, who was 19 years old at the time, was convicted on October 27,1998 in Burleigh County District Court of Gross Sexual Imposition involving a six year old girl.

His disposition was 10 years, with 6 years suspended, for 6 years.

Lundgren is not wanted by police at this time, and has served the sentence imposed by the court.

This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor, should this information be used to threaten, assault or intimidate the offender.

Attempts to harass, intimidate, or threaten these offenders, their families, landlords, or employers, will be turned over for prosecution.

CASSELTON, N.D. (AP) – A crash on Interstate 94 involving a
semitrailer and an oil tanker sent both drivers to the hospital and
spilled at least 200 gallons of oil.
     The Highway Patrol says neither driver suffered critical
injuries in the Thursday afternoon crash near Casselton in
southeastern North Dakota. Authorities are still investigating what
led to the crash.
     Officials say the low-grade oil that spilled in the median was
not hazardous. One lane of traffic was closed in each direction
while the spill was cleaned up.

 

  GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The U.S. Marshals Service says no foul play is suspected in the death of a deputy marshal who was found dead in his vehicle in a Grand Forks parking lot.
 
     Police Chief John Packett identified the man as 46-year-old Robert Wood. He was found dead in a residential neighborhood Wednesday morning.
 
     U.S. Marshal Paul Ward says an autopsy is planned but results aren’t likely to be released for weeks.
 
     The Grand Forks Herald reports that Wood served in the Air Force before joining the Marshals Service. He was transferred from Washington, D.C., to Grand Forks in 1994.
 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Democratic candidate for North Dakota’s Public Service Commission says two Republican commissioners have been “flouting the spirit” of the state’s anti-bribery law.
 
     Brad Crabtree says Republican commissioners Brian Kalk and Kevin Cramer have taken campaign contributions from companies they regulate.
 
     Crabtree says the money came in when Kalk and Cramer made decisions favoring the companies.
 
     Kalk says his campaign donations are legal and Crabtree’s bribery allegations are “ridiculous.”
 
     Cramer says Crabtree won’t file a bribery complaint himself because he knows there’s nothing to it.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A proposed smoking ban in North Dakota bars isn’t likely to be the only initiative that voters see this November.
 
     Advocates for four other measures say they’ll submit their petitions next week. The deadline falls at midnight Wednesday.
 
     One initiative would make it a felony to beat or torture a cat, dog or horse. Another would set aside part of North Dakota’s oil tax collections for conservation projects.
 
     A third initiative would restrict new regulation of farming and ranching. The fourth would make medical marijuana legal in North Dakota.
 
     Supporters of the University of North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux nickname say they’re still deciding whether to turn in their proposal next week. It’s a constitutional amendment that says UND’s sports teams must always be known as the Fighting Sioux.

 

 MINOT, N.D. (AP) – More than a year after flooding along the Souris River in North Dakota, a fund set up to help Minot recover has doled out more than $4.3 million to flood victims.
 
     The Minot Area Recovery Fund flood expense reimbursement process started in mid-November. More than 2,400 households ended up receiving expenses reimbursements.
 
     As the fund focuses more on rebuilding, the organization’s board of directors has decided to change the name to the Minot Area Rebuilding Fund.
 
     The Souris River last year swamped more than 4,000 homes and businesses in North Dakota’s fourth-largest city.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has
activated North Dakota’s Harvest Hotline.
     The free service that was started 20 years ago matches custom
combiners with farmers looking for help harvesting their crops.

     The hotline number is 701-328-2391. State Agriculture Department
employees will answer calls weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Evening and weekend callers can leave a message.

Jamestown College head men’s baseball coach Tom Hager announces Ryan Abel of Boise, Idaho, has signed a Letter of Intent to enroll at Jamestown College next year and play baseball for the Jimmies. Ryan is the son of Ron and Kristi Abel.

Abel, a right handed, 6’3″ catcher comes from the Clackamas Community College in Ore. In the spring, Abel played in all 41 games for the Cougars and was named to the All Southern Division Team as a utility player.

Currently Ryan is the starting catcher for the Portland Stars in the West Coast League, a collegiate summer wood bat league in Portland, Ore.

“We are very excited that Ryan has chosen to join the Jimmie family,” said Hager. “He is a talented catcher and a quality student- athlete, and we are looking forward to seeing the impact that he will make on our baseball program.”

 

Jamestown College women’s track and field coach, Jim Clark announces that Brittany Popp of Big Horn, Wyo. Has signed a Letter of Intent to enroll at Jamestown College and participate in track and field for the Jimmies. Brittany is the daughter of Mike Popp of Elko, Nev. and Jeannie Fox of Sheridan, Wyo.

Popp is a 2012 graduate of Big Horn High School where she participated in basketball and volleyball as well as track and field.

“Her individual events have been mostly the hurdles and short sprints, but she has run on many relay teams for Big Horn,” said Clark. “It is hard to say what Brittany’s best events will be at Jamestown, but she seems willing to try anything. Brittany has Jimmie history behind her, as her Dad, Mike Popp, was a standout cornerback for the Jimmie football team. I look forward to meeting Brittany in a couple of weeks as she gets started at Jamestown College.”

Showalter graduated from Valley View High School where he played baseball and basketball. He is transferring from the College of the Desert.

Showalter plans to major in criminal justice while attending Jamestown College.

Cannella plans to major in communication while attending Jamestown College.

 

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A junior quarterback at the University

of North Dakota has left the program during the first week of

football camp.

Joey Bradley left the program. Bradley was a part-time starter last

season.

He was expected to be in the running for the starting spot

this season.

UND football coach Chris Mussman says Bradley thought it was

best to head to another program. Mussman says he is sad Bradley is

leaving but wishes him the best.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The starting running back for North Dakota
State University is requesting jury trials in state district court
on two charges of driving with a suspended license.
Sam Ojuri was stopped by police on June 5 and July 14.

Both of the charges against him are misdemeanors punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Ojuri has run into trouble in the past.

The junior from Barrington, Ill., pleaded guilty in January to an alcohol offense and was fined $100.

He was suspended from the team in spring 2010 for an undisclosed violation of team rules and reinstated in January 2011.
NDSU is the defending NCAA Football Championship Subdivision
champion.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State has been picked to finish
first in the Missouri Valley Football Conference in a poll of
league coaches, media and sports information directors.

 The Bison defeated Sam Houston State last year to win the Football
Championship Subdivision national title. Coach Craig Bohl says
expectations for his team are high, but the competition is rugged.

 

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The University of North Dakota has
completed its transition to Division I status.
     The school has announced that UND President Robert Kelley
received a letter from the NCAA confirming the school has completed
the necessary steps to move from Division II to I.
     The transition process takes five years. UND is now eligible to
participate in Division I postseason competition starting this
fall.
     In a news release, Kelley called completing the transition a
“significant milestone.”

 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Twins pitching prospect Alex Wimmers has undergone Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.

The team says the operation was performed yesterday in Minneapolis. The right-hander was Minnesota’s first-round draft pick in 2010.

 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Center Greg Stiemsma has signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The deal was completed yesterday. The 26-year-old Stiemsma was named the 2010 NBA Developmental League Defensive Player of the Year.

 

OLYMPIC  HIGHLIGHTS…

 LONDON (AP)- Three Olympic basketball records were set in Team USA’s 156-73 rout of Nigeria yesterday.

The Americans set a record for single-game points, making a record 29 of 46 three-pointers with Carmelo Anthony setting a single-game Olympic scoring mark with 37 points.
 
     LONDON (AP) – Gabby Douglas won the women’s all-around gymnastics title, becoming the third straight American to win the sport’s biggest prize and the first African-American.

It’s her second gold medal of the London Games, coming two nights after she and her “Fierce Five” teammates won the team gymnastics title.
 
     LONDON (AP) – Michael Phelps got one last win over Ryan Lochte (LAHK’-tee), winning the 200-meter individual medley to claim his 20th career medal — and 16th gold.

Phelps is the first male swimmer to win the same individual event at three straight Olympics.
 
     LONDON (AP) – American Tyler Clary rallied on the final lap to pull off the upset in the 200 backstroke.

Clary passed Ryan Lochte (LAHK’-tee) on the last lap to win the gold medal.

As great as the first week of the summer Olympics
is, to many the real Olympics begins today with the start of track
and field competitiion.

Gold is up for grabs in the men’s shotput
in the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium. Track and field runs for the
next 10 days in London.

 The U.S. women’s volleyball team looks for another win with a
match against Serbia, while the women’s basketball team faces the
Czech Republic in a rematch of the 2010 world championship game,
which was won by the Americans.

 The U.S. women’s soccer team is facing the squad from New
Zealand in a quarterfinal game, and the defending gold medalist
U.S. men’s beach volleyball team of Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers
opens knockout-round play today with a match against Italy. As
Dalhausser puts it, “now the real tournament starts.”

     UNDATED (AP) – Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner has reached a
deal to sell the team to Tennessee truck-stop magnate Jimmy Haslam
III.
     Lerner will sell 70 percent of the Browns to Haslam now, with
the other 30 percent reverting to him four years after the closing
date, the person says on condition of anonymity because the sale
has not officially been announced.
     ESPN reports the sale price was more than $1 billion.
     The deal must get approval from at least 24 of the NFL’s 32
teams.
 
     PGA-Bridgestone Invitational

          ARKON, Ohio (AP) – Jim Furyk fired a 7-under 63 in the opening
round to grab the lead at the Bridgestone Invitational at
Firestone.

Furyk surged to the top with an eagle and seven birdies
to open a two-shot edge over Lee Slattery of England.

Bubba Watson and world No. 1-ranked Luke Donald are in a group
three shots off the pace after shooting 66’s.

     RENO, Nev. (AP) – Andres Romero had seven birdies in a
bogey-free first round at the Reno-Tahoe Open to take a one-point
lead over South Korean rookie Seung-Yul Noh.

     Romero, from Argentina, had 14 points under the modified
Stableford scoring system.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Labor Department reports shortly on July
hiring and unemployment, and analysts expect it to show the
continuing effects of slower economic growth and an uncertain
outlook.

 Economists surveyed by FactSet forecast that employers
added 100,000 jobs last month and that the unemployment rate
remained at 8.2 percent for the third straight month.
     
     WASHINGTON (AP) – The July employment report will have an
immediate impact on the presidential campaign.

Republican challenger Mitt Romney is waiting to take advantage of any weakness while President Barack Obama is bracing for another potential dose
of lackluster economic news.
    
     ATLANTA (AP) – Gay rights activists and other supporters of
marriage equality plan a national “Kiss In” at Chick-fil-A
restaurants today to protest the fast-food chain owners’ opposition
to same-sex unions.

 The gatherings come two days after hundreds of
thousands of customers, many of them conservative Christians,
recognized “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” at more than 1,600
locations.

The company’s president says he supports “the biblical
definition of a family.”
    
     UNITED NATIONS (AP) – The U.N. General Assembly is set to
denounce Syria today for unleashing tanks, artillery, helicopters
and warplanes on the people of Aleppo and Damascus.

Meanwhile the death toll is now 21 in Damascus after mortars struck a Palestinian refugee camp in the capital today.
     
     KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) – A World Health Organization official says
everyone known to have had contact with Ebola victims in Uganda has
been isolated – a total of 176 people.

He declared the Ebola outbreak under control. At least 16 Ugandans have died.
