Jamestown  (JPD)  Jamestown Police is cautioning the public to be wary of a money extortion scam.

Police Lt. Nick Hardy,  reports that the  dispatch center received a call just after 1-pm Tuesday about a possible kidnapping at the Jamestown Walmart.

Lt. Hardy says, “The male, who was calling from Bismarck, reported his daughter had just been kidnapped and he was on the phone with the abductor. The complainant could hear a female screaming in the background and the abductor was requesting money to get his daughter back.”

After investigating, with assistance from the Bismarck Police Department, it was determined the call was a scam to extort money.

Lt. Hardy adds, “The complainant’s daughter was contacted was determined to be okay and was not the female on the phone screaming. The complainant had a medical emergency and had to be taken to the hospital because of the incident.”

Anyone receiving a call like this, is  asked to report it to local law enforcement.
