Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Hall, on Wednesday morning, was the scene of a display of a prototype ladder fire truck that the Jamestown City Fire Department is interested in purchasing, in place of the old truck taken out of service due to equipment malfunctions and replacement costs.
On hand with the ladder truck and two other fire vehicles on their way for delivery, were representatives of Heiman Fire Equipment, with the ladder truck manufactured by Rosenbauer, with the Cobra Aerial (ladder) Truck.
The ladder truck is on its way to New Town, ND, where it has been purchased.
They said the truck on display in Jamestown has a price tag of $900,000. Jamestown is looking at a model with additional features, and would cost around $1-million. Equipment from the previous ladder truck can be fitted to the new truck, to bring the new one up to standards

At a recent Jamestown City Council Fire Committee meeting, Mayor Heinrich proposed funding options for the $1-millon ladder truck.
Mayor Heinrich proposes the cost to paid from one-third state funds, and the city and local industry cover two-thirds of the cost. He said donations, pledges, payment plans and the like need to extend over a five year period. Once the agreements are reached the city would be able to order the ladder truck.
City Fire Chief Jim Reuther this is the best plan of action, and that it “is doable.”
The committee recommends endorsing the action plan.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Bernie Sanders is going after Joe Biden, warning that a “conventional campaign” like the former vice president’s won’t defeat Donald Trump. Speaking at a rally in North Charleston, South Carolina, Sanders called out his opponent by name, knocking Biden for voting for “terrible trade policies like NAFTA” and the Iraq War. Sanders and Biden are vying for an edge in South Carolina. While Biden remains in the lead in surveys of the state and said during Tuesday night’s debate he plans to win the primary, Sanders has been gaining ground after a series of wins across the three previous primary states. In North Charleston on Wednesday, Sanders told the crowd he will win South Carolina.
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Joe Biden has won the endorsement of Rep. Jim Clyburn, the highest-ranking black member of Congress and the kingmaker of South Carolina’s Democratic political orbit. The House majority whip’s backing could provide a much-needed boost for the Democratic presidential candidate before South Carolina’s primary on Saturday. Clyburn says he can think of no one “more committed to the fundamental principles that make this country what it is” than his “good friend” Biden. Biden appeared with Clyburn on Wednesday in North Charleston and thanked him. The former vice president notes Clyburn’s role in securing the Democratic votes for the 2010 health insurance overhaul that ranks as President Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal appeals court says the winner-take-all system Texas uses to assign Electoral College presidential votes is constitutional. Wednesday’s ruling by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans is the latest defeat for organizations that say each state’s electors should be chosen proportionally, based on the percentage of the statewide vote. The 5th Circuit says 48 states use a winner-take-all system and that system was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1969. The ruling upholds an earlier dismissal of a challenge to the Texas system. Similar lawsuits are being pursued in three other states.
(AP) The new virus is taking a broader toll on airline travel. Most airlines have already stopped flying to China, and now Delta Air Lines is sharply cutting back on flights between the U.S. and Seoul, South Korea, because of the outbreak. Delta said Wednesday it will suspend flights between Minneapolis and Seoul beginning this weekend and lasting until at least April 30. The airline will also reduce the number of flights from Korea to Atlanta, Detroit and Seattle. Delta, United and American have already suspended all flights to and from mainland China and Hong Kong for several more weeks.
MADRID (AP) — More than 100 guests could be released in coming hours from a 4-star resort in Spain’s Canary Islands that’s been under lock-down over fears of a further spread of the new coronavirus. Authorities in the Canary Islands said Wednesday that none of the group had direct contact with the four holidaymakers who tested positive for the COVID-19 disease earlier this week. The remaining 600 or so guests at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel on the island of Tenerife will need to remain quarantined for 14 days, Teresa Cruz, the health regional ministry in the Canary Islands told a news conference.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is pushing back against criticism that his administration isn’t doing enough to meet the coronavirus threat. Trump plans to hold a news conference late Wednesday to talk about what the U.S. is doing to prepare for the virus. On Capitol Hill, lawmakers are calling for much more money than the $2.5 billion the White House has requested. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has asked for $8.5 billion. Trump’s 6 p.m. news conference will be at the White House with experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
