Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News May 29, 2013) — The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers on Wednesday (May 29, 2013) at noon, decreased the Jamestown Dam release from 1,000 cfs, to 850 cfs.
Bob Martin in Jamestown says, the reduction stems from the forecast of possible heavy rainfall amounts in the James River basin in the next few days.
Martin says, the reduction in releases from Jamestown Dam is for an unspecified period of time.
The release from Pipestem Dam remains at 200 cfs, for combined release of 1,050 cfs, down from 1,200 cfs.
The reduction from Jamestown Reservoir drops the James River level downstream of the confluence by about 9 inches.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown Police Department is warning residents of a convicted sex offender living in Jamestown.
The report says Eric David Lacey is residing at 403 1st Avenue, North Apt #4 in Jamestown.
He is a 53 year old white male 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 280 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair.
He has been assigned a high risk assessment by the North Dakota Risk Level Committee of the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
Lacey was convicted in March of 2009 in federal court in California after the FBI found him in possession child pornography images on a laptop computer.
His disposition in federal court was 60 months supervised probation.
In November of 2008 Lacey’s disposition was 60 months of supervised probation, convicted in U.S. Federal Court in North Dakota, of Possession of Material-Sex Exploit of Minors, after FBI agents executed a search warrant of Lacey’s Bismarck residence, in 2007.
Lacey is not wanted by police at this time and is currently serving the sentence imposed by the court.
This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault, or intimidate the offender.
Attempts to harass, intimidate, or threaten these offenders or their families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution.

Last year the Running Of The Pink raised over $8,000 with 400 participants.
Jason stressed that all funds raised from the event stays local and goes to to the local Women’s Way Resource Fund, for breast and cervical cancer screening at Central Valley Health District.
Tara added that law enforcement officials will be stationed around the course for traffic control as the runners and walkers course will take them across Highway 281, with the course continuing on depending on the event the participates sign up for.
She noted that participants can take along the family, and make the walking part a leisurely family activity.
Jason pointed out that prizes will include the categories of The Largest Family, and the Largest Business Team.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Tax Commissioner Cory Fong says the state’s strong economy is leading to continued record growth in taxable sales and purchases.
Fong says taxable sales and purchases in the state during the last three months of 2012 totaled about $6.7 billion, up nearly 10 percent over the year. For calendar year 2012, the number was $25.2 billion, up about 29 percent.
Fong says all industries in North Dakota reported growth in 2012.

The most explosive growth is coming from western North Dakota’s oil-producing region. Taxable sales and purchases in oil-rich Williams County totaled $4.6 billion for the year. That’s up more than 43 percent.
North Dakota Retail Association President Mike Rud (rood) calls the state’s economic growth “mindboggling” and “unprecedented.”
WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) – Police in Wahpeton are trying to figure out why a man attacked a female employee at a Family Dollar store with a pair of scissors.
Police say the clerk was attacked Wednesday night. Both the clerk and the suspect were taken to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries they suffered in the ensuing scuffle.
Authorities say the woman and the man did not know one another, and they’re trying to determine whether robbery was the motive for the attack.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Fargo police are searching for two men who robbed and shot a man in broad daylight near a Fargo gas station. Police in Minot are trying to find two men who unsuccessfully tried to rob a local bar.
Fargo police say a man was robbed of his wallet and cellphone and then shot in the leg outside a Loaf ‘N Jug store Wednesday afternoon. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries authorities said were not life-threatening.
In Minot, two men with guns entered Sidekicks Lounge on Wednesday afternoon but apparently became flustered and fled without taking anything. No one was hurt.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – An arrest warrant has been issued for a former North Dakota State University football player accused of not serving his community service time that was ordered after he admitted forging signatures on an election petition last fall.
Twenty-one-year-old Don Carter was one of 15 defendants who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of faking signatures on failed petitions seeking statewide votes to establish an outdoor heritage fund and legalize medical marijuana.
He’s accused of not completing his court-mandated community service.
Carter was due in court on Tuesday, but a spokeswoman for the Cass County Attorney’s Office says he didn’t show up. Authorities then issued an arrest warrant.
An arrest warrant was issued last month for another defendant who is also accused of failing to complete his community service.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Two North Dakota men have been sentenced to prison for driving while drunk and killing another driver or passenger.
U. S. Attorney Timothy Purdon announced Wednesday that 36-year-old Louis John Dunn was sentenced to three years and five months in prison. Dunn pleaded guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter in March.
Prosecutors say Dunn was driving drunk last October when he drove into the lane of on-coming traffic and struck Andrew Greywater, who later died from his injuries. The incident occurred on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.
Purdon also announced that 38-year-old Jamie Belgarde of St. Michael was sentenced to two years in prison. Belgarde pleaded guilty to rolling his vehicle after driving drunk and killing a passenger, his brother Donald Belgarde Junior.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A preliminary medical examiner’s report says a man who died several weeks after he reportedly hit his head during a scuffle outside of a Fargo strip club died from blunt head injury.
Thirty-eight-year-old Christopher Barr was allegedly pushed by a club employee during a fight at the Northern Gentleman’s Club on April 13th. He died about a month later.
Fargo Deputy Police Chief Pat Claus tells The Forum that the investigation into Barr’s death remains open. Claus says he would not release details of the death, including the manner of death or whether Barr had alcohol or drugs in his system.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – President Obama has approved Gov. Jack Dalrymple’s request for a federal disaster declaration to help 16 North Dakota counties and the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation recover from flooding.
Obama approved the disaster declaration on Wednesday. The declaration makes federal funding available to help communities cover the costs for flood mitigation and flood recovery efforts.
The declaration covers the counties of Benson, Bottineau, Cass, Cavalier, Eddy, Foster, McHenry and Pembina. It also covers Ramsey, Renville, Richland, Rolette, Towner, Trail, Walsh and Wells counties as well as the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.
Dalrymple submitted the request last week after teams conducted preliminary flood damage assessments in the Red River of the North Basin, the Devils Lake Basin and the Souris River Basin.
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – Funeral services are being held this morning for former North Dakota state Representative Gordon Berg. Today’s memorial service starts at 11 a.m. inside Saint Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. Gilbertson Funeral Home says Berg died at a Devils Lake nursing home on Saturday.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Drones are on display in northeastern North Dakota.
The seventh annual Unmanned Aircraft Systems Action Summit kicks off Thursday the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, featuring the nation’s leading industry, military and professional experts.
Officials say North Dakota is well-positioned as a national hub for UAS research, technology and applications. The Grand Forks Air Force Base recently switched to an unmanned mission and the University of North Dakota is the first U.S. college to offer a drone degree program.
Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota began piloting unmanned aircraft in November.
Michael Toscano, president and CEO of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, a trade association for the domestic drone industry, is the keynote speaker. He’s scheduled to talk at 10 a.m. Thursday.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A federal appeals court has upheld a judge’s decision to throw out a lawsuit by some tribal members over the University of North Dakota’s now-retired Fighting Sioux nickname.
The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a ruling released Wednesday said the suit filed against the NCAA failed to show that the governing body of college athletics “acted with discriminatory intent” when it banned the use of American Indian names and imagery in postseason competition.
Minot attorney Reed Soderstrom represented the tribal members. He tells the Grand Forks Herald that he’s not surprised by the ruling and says his efforts to save the nickname are over.
State voters in June 2012 overwhelmingly endorsed retirement of the nickname. The state has imposed a moratorium on a new nickname until 2015.

CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Blackhawks have advanced to the NHL’s Western Conference finals by downing the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in overtime. Brent Seabrook scored the game-winner at 3:35 of the extra period after the Hawks had a goal waved off with 1:47 left in regulation. Corey Crawford stopped 26 shots and blanked the Red Wings until Henrik Zetterberg tied the game 26 seconds into the third period.
The Hawks will host the first two games of the Western Conference finals against the Los Angeles Kings, the defending Stanley Cup champs.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – The Charlotte Bobcats have hired longtime NBA assistant coach Steve Clifford as their new head coach. An assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers this season, Clifford becomes the Bobcats’ sixth coach since the 2006-07 season. This will be his first NBA head coaching job.

PARIS (AP) – Men’s top seed Novak Djokovic (JOH’-koh-vihch) and No. 3 Rafael Nadal each have second-round matches scheduled at the French Open today. Women’s second seed Maria Sharapova and No. 3 Victoria Azarenka are also part of the schedule after top-ranked Serena Williams advanced to the third round yesterday.
Former No. 1 Jelena Jankovic beat the rain and Garbine Muguruza at the French Open today.
Jankovic defeated Muguruza 6-3, 6-0 shortly before showers interrupted the first matches of the day on 12 other courts.
Zheng Jie also reached the third round, beating Melanie Oudin of the United States 6-3, 6-1.
With the midday temperature in the mid-50s, Jankovic took the court wearing pink leggings and a long-sleeve pink shirt. She beat Muguruza with steady play from the baseline while the 19-year-old Spaniard committed 29 unforced errors.
Jankovic, seeded 18th, is a three-time semifinalist at Roland Garros.
Meanwhile, Serena and Venus Williams have pulled out of doubles at the French Open before playing a match. No reason was given by the tournament.
On the men’s side, No. 16 Philipp Kohlschreiber advanced when Yen-hsun Lu withdrew because of a right ankle injury.
DETROIT (AP) — A cause of death was not determined Wednesday after an autopsy on the body of a Michigan man who played Division II football and was one of the most successful quarterbacks in college history.
There was no obvious sign of heart trauma on Cullen Finnerty, Lake County Sheriff Robert Hilts said.
Finnerty’s body was discovered Tuesday in woods in western Michigan, 65 miles north of Grand Rapids, following a search by dozens of people, including former teammates, coaches and current players at Grand Valley State University in Allendale.

LONDON (AP) – One of two men accused of killing an off-duty British soldier with knives and meat cleavers on a London street appeared in court today. Michael Adebowale (ah-DAY’-boh-wah-lay) only confirmed his name, address and date of birth. He was handcuffed during the brief appearance, but was allowed to sit down because he’s still recovering from being shot by police. The other suspect, who also was shot, is still in the hospital.
PHOENIX (AP) – The lawyer representing an Arizona woman whose faces a drug-smuggling charge in Mexico says the judge will decide by Friday whether to free 42-year-old Yanira (yah-NEER’-ah) Maldonado. Maldonado was arrested by the Mexican military last week after they found nearly 12 pounds of pot under her bus seat. Maldonado’s family says the mother of seven was set up.
WASHINGTON (AP) – An insurance industry study says the easing up on motorcycle helmet laws is making crash injuries worse. The Highway Loss Data Institute also says crash deaths have been on the rise nationwide. It says in Michigan, the average medical claim from a motorcycle crash rose more than one-fifth last year after the state stopped requiring helmets for riders 21 and older.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – A spokeswoman for Disneyland in California says an employee accused of putting a so-called dry ice bomb in a theme park trash can will be either suspended or fired. The dry ice created a small blast Tuesday, and Disneyland briefly evacuated the Mickey’s Toontown section of the park, but no one was injured. Police say 22-year-old Christian Barnes told them the dry ice had results he didn’t expect.
NEW YORK (AP) – Former CIA director David Petraeus (peh-TRAY’-uhs) has a new job with an investment firm. The retired Army general is chairman of the newly created KKR Global Institute. Petraeus served as CIA director until last November, when an extramarital affair with a biographer triggered his resignation.
