Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — A 37-year-old Valley City man –
Jackson “Jack” Schnaidt– died Monday (Aug 6, 2012) stemming from a head-on collision with his motorcycle and a pickup, on Highway 62 north of Spiritwood Lake.
Stutsman County Sheriff Office Sergeant Liz Kapp says the crash occurred about 4:30 –p.m., approximately three miles north of Spiritwood Lake.
A report from Stutsman County Sheriff, Chad Kaiser said, the driver of the pickup, 63 year old Alvin Alderman of Wimbledon was cited for Driving Under Suspension, and the report says he had consumed alcohol prior to the crash, but was under the legal limit.
The report said at the time of the accident the Ford pickup was headed north on Highway 62, at a crest of a hill.
The motorcycle was southbound, and crossed into the on coming lane at the crest of the hill, and collided with the left side of the pickup, causing the pickup to come to rest in the west ditch, and the motorcycle also came to rest in the west ditch.
Alderman was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
Schnaidt was not wearing a helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol is assisting with the reconstruction of the accident, which is still under investigation.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday August 10th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City with Rev. Dan Forsberg officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Valley City, ND.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — North Dakota Congressman, Rick Berg made two stops in the Jamestown area on Wednesday (Aug 8, 2012).
His first stop was at Jamestown Regional Airport, where he toured the new terminal building.
Later Wednesday morning, Berg traveled to Spiritwood Energy Park, where he was taken on a tour of the Great River Energy facility.
Berg is the Republican endorsed candidate, running for the U.S. Senate seat, currently held by the retiring Democratic Senator Kent Conrad.
Berg is opposed for the senate seat in the November election, by the Democratic endorsed candidate, Heidi Heitkamp.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The murder, conspiracy trial of Leron Howard is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, in Southeast District Court in Jamestown, with jury selection.
The trail is expected to end by August 24th.
The 34-year-old Howard will stand trial on Class AA Felony charges of murder and criminal conspiracy, in the April 2011 death of Abdi Ali Ahmed, who was 18 year old at the time of his death.
Ahmed’s body was found near Spiritwood in April, 2011.
Howard’s request of a change in venue for his trial, was denied by Southeast District Court Judge, Thomas Merrick. Howard claimed that media coverage of Janelle Cave’s trial, in Jamestown, made it impossible to find a fair and impartial jury.
Merrick expanded the jury pool to include 20 residents from neighboring Barnes County.
In February, of this year, co-defendant Janelle Alexandra Cave, of Jamestown was found guilty of manslaughter and criminal conspiracy in Ahmed’s death.
Cave was sentenced to serve 11 years in prison, and is appealing her conviction in North Dakota Supreme Court.
As part of her sentence, she is required to testify against Howard at his trial.
Fargo, ND (KCSi-T.V. News& AP) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, on Wednesday (August 8, 2012) at approximately 4:07 am, a Trooper located a vehicle westbound on I-94 that had been stolen from Moorhead, Minnesota, in an armed carjacking a short time earlier.
Authorities say the Safari Cinema employees were leaving work at
about 4 a.m. Wednesday when the suspect approached them with a gun
and asked for their keys.
Police say they recovered a pellet gun after the Fargo man crashed the car he stole into a curb, tree and a sign.
The car rolled and ended up on its top, and firefighters had to extricate the man from the vehicle.
FM Ambulance also responded.
The 20-year-old suspect Emmanuel Galuak, of Fargo. refused medical treatment for a cut on the head and was taken to the Cass County jail.
Fargo and West Fargo police officers also responded.
The Highway Patrol report says, near the Petro Serve Gas Station on 45th St. and the corner of 9th Ave in Fargo, a felony stop was attempted on the stolen vehicle.
The vehicle accelerated through the parking lot of the gas station and fled at approximately 80-90 mph east on 9th St.
The Trooper and Fargo/West Fargo police officers on the scene guarded the driver until the Fargo Fire Department arrived and freed the driver from the vehicle.
Fargo Police is investigating the crash, while Moorhead Police is investigating the carjacking and the Highway Patrol arrested the driver for Reckless Endangerment, Driving Under Suspension and Fleeing a Police Officer.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The case against a North Dakota man accused
of manufacturing synthetic drugs that led to a pair of overdose
deaths has moved to federal court.
A complaint filed Wednesday against 22-year-old Andrew Spofford
charges him with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute
controlled substances.
He has not been asked to enter a plea. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Monday.
The federal file contains no further information.
State documents show that Spofford admitted making the drugs by mixing
chemicals ordered through the mail.
Police say 18-year-old Christian Bjerk, of Grand Forks, and
17-year-old Elijah Stai, of Park Rapids, Minn., died of apparent
drug overdoses from the hallucinogens.
Two other men, 19-year-old Adam Budge of East Grand Forks,
Minn., and 18-year-old Wesley Sweeney of Manvel, are accused of
supplying the drugs.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The top administrator of North Dakota’s Health Department says the agency will be looking into the possible impact of a proposed medical marijuana initiative.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger is reviewing the proposal to see if it has enough petition signatures to qualify for the ballot.
State health officer Terry Dwelle (DWELL’-ee) says the Health Department hasn’t analyzed the bill yet to see how much money will be needed to carry out the measure’s directives.
The initiative puts the Health Department in charge of checking the backgrounds and business plans of pot sellers. The agency has to review the drug’s labeling and test the potency of medical marijuana.
Deputy state health officer Arvy (AR’-vee) Smith says the budget review isn’t likely to happen for a few months.
LINTON, N.D. (AP) – The south central North Dakota city of
Linton is the latest to ban smoking in public buildings.
Officials with North Dakota’s Center for Tobacco Prevention and
Control Policy say the Linton City Council voted 4-2 this week to
approve a smoke-free ordinance. It goes into effect Sept. 1.
Linton is the 10th North Dakota city to pass such a ban. The
others are Bismarck, Cavalier, Devils Lake, Fargo, Grand Forks,
Lisbon, Napoleon, Pembina and West Fargo.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Flour milling and food industry marketing
executives from the Philippines will be in North Dakota the next
three days to get a firsthand look at the state’s hard red spring
wheat crop.
The North Dakota Wheat Commission says the Philippines is the
second-largest export market for hard red spring, North Dakota’s
staple wheat crop. The country typically buys about 33 million
bushels per year.
The group from the Philippines also is visiting Minnesota,
Montana and Oregon.
U.S. Wheat Associates official Joe Sowers says the delegation will use what it learns on the trip to help design new marketing campaigns to promote the consumption of wheat-based foods.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown Football Boosters announced the sign up for Jamestown Midget Full Contact Football, for boys and girls in grades 5 & 6.
Jerald Roemmich says the sign up is on Monday August 20, 2012 at Hillcrest Softball Complex from 5-p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The cost is $55 per player, and includes a jersey to keep, insurance, and the use of equipment.

Equipment will be handed out at the time of signup.
Parents or guardians must accompany their player to registration, as the players need their permission and signature to participate.
Football will be Monday, Tuesday & Thursday nights form 6:30 to 8-pm. (Please be courteous to the coaches by being on time to pick up the player(s) after practice and games.
(There will not be football on Labor Day September 3, 2012).
Game nights will be on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
A game schedule will be handed out later.
There will be about nine regular season games, followed by a tournament.
The regular season will end in early October.
Teams will be assigned after the players have been assessed by their skills.
A mandatory Parents Meeting date will be announced later.
Teams will be open to youth from surrounding communities, if that area does not have enough players to form their own team.

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) – Syria’s prime minister has completed his
defection. Jordanian officials and a rebel spokesman say Prime
Minister Riad Hijab (HEE’-jab) crossed into Jordan at dawn
Wednesday after two days of hiding inside his homeland.
Earlier this week they had said the prime minister had already left Syria,
but Wednesdday they said the story was a ruse intended to fool President
Bashar Assad’s regime.
Meanwhile, Syrian forces have launched a ground assault against rebel-held areas of the country’s commercial hub, Aleppo.
BAGHDAD (AP) – Iraqi officials say a car bomb has exploded in a
Shiite city south of Baghdad, killing 11.
The attack happened around sundown at a ceremonial breaking of the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. Forty people were wounded in the blast.
MILWAUKEE (AP) – The FBI says investigators haven’t identified
anyone other than the gunman as being responsible for the shootings
at a Sikh (seek) temple in Wisconsin Sunday that left six
worshippers dead.
A former girlfriend of Wade Michael Page was arrested on a weapons violations Sunday, but the FBI says the woman has been cooperative and is not connected to the shootings.
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) – Prosecutors say a University of
California professor who wrote emails outlining plans to attack a
high school had been searching the Internet for information on
guns, fertilizer and auto explosions before his arrest on arson
charges.
Rainer Reinscheid is accused of setting fires to avenge the death of his son. The 14-year-old committed suicide after being disciplined at school.
EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (AP) – The Utah National Guard is
expressing concern that a wildfire burning on a military
installation could spread to an area littered with thousands of
unexploded shells, which could still detonate.
The Guard says the wildfire has been moving away from an artillery practice area at Camp Williams Wednesday, but it had gotten as close as a few hundred yards.
The fire is about 40 percent contained.
