Update…

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — A 37-year-old Valley City man –

Jackson “Jack” Schnaidt– died Monday (Aug 6, 2012) stemming from a head-on collision with his motorcycle and a pickup, on Highway 62 north of Spiritwood Lake.

Stutsman County Sheriff Office Sergeant Liz Kapp says the crash occurred about 4:30 –p.m., approximately three miles north of Spiritwood Lake.

A report from Stutsman County Sheriff, Chad Kaiser said, the driver of the pickup, 63 year old Alvin Alderman of Wimbledon was cited for Driving Under Suspension, and the report says he had consumed alcohol prior to the crash, but was under the legal limit.

The report said at the time of the accident the Ford pickup was headed north on Highway 62, at a crest of a hill.

The motorcycle was southbound, and crossed into the on coming lane at the crest of the hill, and collided with the left side of the pickup, causing the pickup to come to rest in the west ditch, and the motorcycle also came to rest in the west ditch.

Alderman was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Schnaidt was not wearing a helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is assisting with the reconstruction of the accident, which is still under investigation.

Jackson “Jack” Schnaidt, age 37, of Valley city, ND died Aug. 6, 2012 of injuries resulting from a motorcycle accident. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday August 10th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City with Rev. Dan Forsberg officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Valley City, ND.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — North Dakota Congressman, Rick Berg made two stops in the Jamestown area on Wednesday (Aug 8, 2012).

His first stop was at Jamestown Regional Airport, where he toured the new terminal building.

Later Wednesday morning, Berg traveled to Spiritwood Energy Park, where he was taken on a tour of the Great River Energy facility.

Berg is the Republican endorsed candidate, running for the U.S. Senate seat, currently held by the retiring Democratic Senator Kent Conrad.

Berg is opposed for the senate seat in the November election, by the Democratic endorsed candidate, Heidi Heitkamp.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The murder, conspiracy trial of Leron Howard is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, in Southeast District Court in Jamestown, with jury selection.

The trail is expected to end by August 24th.

The 34-year-old Howard will stand trial on Class AA Felony charges of murder and criminal conspiracy, in the April 2011 death of Abdi Ali Ahmed, who was 18 year old at the time of his death.

Ahmed’s body was found near Spiritwood in April, 2011.

Howard’s request of a change in venue for his trial, was denied by Southeast District Court Judge, Thomas Merrick. Howard claimed that media coverage of Janelle Cave’s trial, in Jamestown, made it impossible to find a fair and impartial jury.

Merrick expanded the jury pool to include 20 residents from neighboring Barnes County.

In February, of this year, co-defendant Janelle Alexandra Cave, of Jamestown was found guilty of manslaughter and criminal conspiracy in Ahmed’s death.

Cave was sentenced to serve 11 years in prison, and is appealing her conviction in North Dakota Supreme Court.

As part of her sentence, she is required to testify against Howard at his trial.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, on Wednesday (August 8, 2012) at approximately 4:07 am, a Trooper located a vehicle westbound on I-94 that had been stolen from Moorhead, Minnesota, in an armed carjacking a short time earlier.

Authorities say the Safari Cinema employees were leaving work at

about 4 a.m. Wednesday when the suspect approached them with a gun

and asked for their keys.

Police say they recovered a pellet gun after the Fargo man crashed the car he stole into a curb, tree and a sign.

The car rolled and ended up on its top, and firefighters had to extricate the man from the vehicle.

FM Ambulance also responded.

The 20-year-old suspect Emmanuel Galuak, of Fargo. refused medical treatment for a cut on the head and was taken to the Cass County jail.

Fargo and West Fargo police officers also responded.

The Highway Patrol report says, near the Petro Serve Gas Station on 45th St. and the corner of 9th Ave in Fargo, a felony stop was attempted on the stolen vehicle.

The vehicle accelerated through the parking lot of the gas station and fled at approximately 80-90 mph east on 9th St.

The Trooper and Fargo/West Fargo police officers on the scene guarded the driver until the Fargo Fire Department arrived and freed the driver from the vehicle.

Fargo Police is investigating the crash, while Moorhead Police is investigating the carjacking and the Highway Patrol arrested the driver for Reckless Endangerment, Driving Under Suspension and Fleeing a Police Officer.

 

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A Texas man accused in a fatal shooting at a crew camp in the western North Dakota oil patch has been formally charged with murder, attempted murder and terrorizing.

 Twenty-four-year-old Victor Lamont of Lufkin, Texas, is accused of killing 57-year-old Gerald Schild of Katy, Texas, and injuring 38-year-old Travis Lomax, of Fort Smith, Ark. Lomax was treated at a Minot hospital and released.

 A judge on Wednesday set bond at $1 million or Lamont.

 Authorities say the shooting happened late Saturday at the crew camp near Tioga.

All three men were working for a Wisconsin-based pipeline company. Williams County Chief Deputy Verlan Kvande (KWAHN’-dee) says Lamont also is accused of threatening two other company workers.

 Court documents do not list an attorney for Lamont.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck woman is accused of hitting her

adult nephew in the head with a hammer.

Twenty-four-year-old Lucinda Touchine was charged yesterday for allegedly striking the 19-year-old.

Police say the man reported that his aunt had struck

him three times with a hammer, but Touchine told police her nephew

attacked her first.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck and Mandan police say they have taken reports from BNSF Railway employees who say someone has used their personal identity information to open credit card and other accounts.

Mandan police Sgt. Jay Gruebelesays  victims so far have been able to get the accounts shut down before losing any money.

In a written statement, BNSF Railway says about 100 employees in North Dakota and adjacent states have had “nonpublic personal information” used to open fraudulent accounts in their names. But BNSF says it does not believe the company’s information security processes or technology systems have been compromised.

 BNSF says it is working with law enforcement agencies to investigate the reports.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Security video led to a burglary charge

against a man accused of stealing about $2,000 in gift cards and

cash from a Fargo gym, according to court documents.

A police report filed in court says American Gold Gymnastics was

the victim of theft numerous times from late March to May 15.

The report says security video showed the person responsible for

the thefts.,

Twenty-one-year-old Alexander Mark Hollerung of Fargo has been

charged with felony burglary punishable by up to five years in

prison and a $5,000 fine.

An attorney was not listed for Hollerung in court records.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Stark County Sheriff Clarence Tuhy (TOO’-ee) has survived an attempt to remove him from office.

North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple says in an order Wednesday there isn’t enough evidence to throw the sheriff out of office.

 Tuhy has clashed with Stark County commissioners and some courthouse employees.

 The county commissioners hired an attorney to investigate. The lawyer concluded Tuhy didn’t apply consistent standards in running his office.

 The commissioners then asked Dalrymple to remove the sheriff.

 A hearing was held in the Stark County courthouse last month. A report says Tuhy’s manner was sometimes “indelicate,” but it says that doesn’t justify removal.

 Tuhy says he’s pleased with the outcome and says it “reaffirms my faith in the system.” He says, “I guess we all learned from this.”

 

KILLDEER, N.D. (AP) – Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday for

a Dickinson man who died in a 50-foot-fall from a drilling rig in

the western North Dakota oil patch.

Fifty-two-year-old Terry Metcalf was pronounced dead at the

scene near Killdeer on Monday. The Occupational Safety and Health

Administration is investigating.

Metcalf worked for Big Sky Well Service. Owner Charles Fulton

Says officials don’t know how Metcalf fell.

OSHA official Eric Brooks says it is the seventh oil field death

reported to the agency since its fiscal year began last October. He

says not all have been work-related.

 

WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) – About 160 North Dakota National Guard soldiers who served a year in the Middle East are back on American soil.

 The Guard says the members of the Wahpeton-based 188th Engineer Company arrived at Fort Bliss, Texas, on Wednesday.

They will return to North Dakota after going through the demobilization process, which will take more than a week.

 The soldiers are from nearly 70 communities across North Dakota and into Minnesota. They deployed to Kuwait last August.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Flour milling and food industry marketing

executives from the Philippines will be in North Dakota the next

three days to get a firsthand look at the state’s hard red spring

wheat crop.

The North Dakota Wheat Commission says The Philippines is the

second-largest export market for hard red spring, North Dakota’s

staple wheat crop.

The country typically buys about 33 million bushels per year.

The group from the Philippines also is visiting Minnesota,

Montana and Oregon.

U.S. Wheat Associates official Joe Sowers says

the delegation will use what it learns on the trip to help design

new marketing campaigns to promote the consumption of wheat-based

foods.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown Football Boosters announced the sign up for Jamestown Midget Full Contact Football, for boys and girls in grades 5 & 6.

Jerald Roemmich says the sign up is on Monday August 20, 2012 at Hillcrest Softball Complex from 5-p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $55 per player, and includes a jersey to keep, insurance, and the use of equipment.

(Make checks payable to: Jamestown Football Boosters).

Equipment will be handed out at the time of signup.

Parents or guardians must accompany their player to registration, as the players need their permission and signature to participate.

Football will be Monday, Tuesday & Thursday nights form 6:30 to 8-pm. (Please be courteous to the coaches by being on time to pick up the player(s) after practice and games.

(There will not be football on Labor Day September 3, 2012).

Game nights will be on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

A game schedule will be handed out later.

There will be about nine regular season games, followed by a tournament.

The regular season will end in early October.

Teams will be assigned after the players have been assessed by their skills.

A mandatory Parents Meeting date will be announced later.

Teams will be open to youth from surrounding communities, if that area does not have enough players to form their own team.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Supreme Court has overturned a $1 million awarded against the University of Minnesota and basketball coach Tubby Smith.

Jimmy Williams sued after leaving his job at Oklahoma State because he believed Smith had the hiring authority when he offered him an assistant coaching job.

University general counsel Mark Rotenberg says the court recognized Smith never told Williams he had a final job offer.

 

Olympics…

LONDON (AP) – After winning the silver medal in 2004 and 2008,

Allyson Felix of the U.S. won the Olympic gold medal in the women’s

200 meters.

She earned the prize by overtaking two-time 100

champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica down the stretch to win

in 21.88 seconds.

100-meter silver medalist Carmelita Jeter (JEH’-tur) of the U.S. took bronze.

 

LONDON (AP) – U.S. middleweight Claressa Shields dominated her

opponent from Kazakhstan in the semifinals of the first Olympic

women’s boxing tournament. The 17-year-old will fight a Russian for

the gold medal.

Shields is the last American boxer left in London after

flyweight Marlen Esparza lost an hour earlier.

Shields is guaranteed at least a silver, while Esparza will win a bronze.

 

LONDON (AP) – The U.S. men’s volleyball team has been eliminated

from the London Games.

The defending Olympic champions lost their quarterfinals matchup with Italy in straight sets.

 

LONDON (AP) – Day 13 at the Olympics is a huge day in track and field. There will be gold medal finals in men’s 200 meters, decathlon, men’s 800 meters and men’s triple jump.

 

LONDON (AP) – Usain Bolt can make history today.

The Jamaican sprinter can become the first man with two Olympic gold medals in the 200 meters after already posting back-to-back golds in the 100 meters.

 

LONDON (AP) – The unprecedented champions of beach volleyball have earned their third straight gold medal.

The team of Misty May-Treanor (TRAY’-nur) and Kerri Walsh Jennings beat April Ross and Jennifer Kessy in an all-American final and are leaving London without losing a match.

 

LONDON (AP) – The U.S. men’s basketball team is in the Olympic final four following it’s 119-86 rout of Australia.

On Friday the Americans play Argentina, a team the U.S. clobbered by 29 points earlier in the tournament, with the winner playing the Spain-Russia winner in the finals.

 

LONDON (AP) – A very successful showing in Olympic Stadium on

Wednesday propels the U.S. back to the top of the total medal

standings.

Americans earned seven medals in track and field alone,

boosting their total to 81, four more than China.

The U.S. trails China by two in the race for gold, 36-34.

 

In world and national news…

NEW YORK (AP) – A New York man is expected to appear in court

today to plead guilty to a crime that stunned a tight-knit Hasidic

community.

Levi Aron is accused of kidnapping an 8-year-old boy who

got lost on the way home.

The boy was killed and some of his remains allegedly were found in Aron’s refrigerator.

 

 VERACRUZ, Mexico (AP) – Ernesto could become a hurricane once

again when it’s expected to come ashore later today in the Gulf of

Mexico state of Veracruz.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm’s winds increased to 70 mph after crossing the Yucatan Peninsula.

 

DANANG, Vietnam (AP) – After 50 years, the U.S. has begun

cleaning up what’s left of the Agent Orange it dropped over

Vietnam’s jungles during the war.

The U.S. began a landmark project today to remove the cancer-causing dioxin left by Agent Orange, which was used to destroy enemy cover.

 

 MIAMI (AP) – A homeless man whose face was mostly chewed off in

a bizarre attack in Miami tells police his attacker “just ripped me to ribbons.” Ronald Poppo tells police in a recorded interview that Rudy Eugene initially seemed friendly , but “turned berserk” and then attacked.

Miami news station WFOR-TV obtained the interview. Eugene was shot and killed by police during the attack. Poppo is still hospitalized.

 

LONDON (AP) – Not only is the London Olympics a gathering of nationalities, but religions too.

Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Jewish clerics have been on hand around the clock to minister to athletes’ spiritual needs.

American pastor Alan Ratliff says he finds that Olympic volunteers and spectators also want to talk. He says visitors “are in an open mood.”
