TRENTON, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has released the names of two motorcyclists killed in crash involving a van and a semitrailer near Trenton.
The Highway Patrol identified the victims as 20-year-old Blake Reynolds from Fairview, Mont., and 18-year-old Edmund Kimmel from Roundup, Mont.
The patrol said the van was trying to pass the semi on state Highway 1804 near Trenton about 10 p.m. Thursday and collided head-on with the two oncoming motorcycles.
Authorities said the riders of both motorcycles were thrown from the bikes. One driver landed in a ditch and the other was struck by the semi.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota National Guard family members have honored all of the state’s Guard soldiers killed in the global war on terrorism. The sixth “Memorial Road March” was held Sunday morning in Bismarck. The nine-mile trek began at 9:38 a.m. near the Memorial to The Fallen in the Global War on Terrorism and ended at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Western North Dakota has already had three tornadoes in June, and a meteorologist warns that severe weather might be the norm this summer.
Patrick Ayd of the National Weather Servicesays last week’s tornado touchdowns near Bowman and Billings County could just be the start of a wild weather summer.
Ayd sayd that without the drought the region endured last year, “we are probably going to see more severe weather than we did see last year.”
He says the odds of a tornado hitting southwest North Dakota again are high.
Stark County Emergency Manager Bill Fahlsing encourages residents to develop a family action plan in case of tumultuous weather.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man has been indicted in federal court for allegedly threatening to blow up a Social Security office in Minot.
Fifty-four-year-old Kevin Skiles is charged with threatening to damage or destroy property by means of explosive. He has pleaded not guilty.
Authorities say Skiles left a voicemail message on the phone of a Social Security representative after identifying himself, giving his social security number, and leaving his phone number.
Skiles allegedly said in the message that he would blow up the Social Security office if someone did not call him back.
Court documents show that Skiles told an FBI agent that he left the threatening message, but did not mean it.
A federal public defender was not available for comment.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck man who survived three gunshot wounds to the head says the murderer who nearly killed him got off too easy by dying Friday of natural causes while awaiting execution on Death Row in California.
Fifty-eight-year-old Billy Carns was left with one arm and foot paralyzed, his short-term memory sapped and his personality forever altered from the attack. The Williston native and his girlfriend had been living in California in August 1985 when they were attacked by serial killer Richard Ramirez, dubbed the “Night Stalker” by the media.
Carns says he would’ve liked to torture Ramirez with a “chain saw or a belt sander. Carns’ mother, Anne Carns, focuses on being thankful her son survived, even if he’s not the same.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – American Red Cross volunteers are continuing to support the flood-recovery efforts in Minot for a third summer.
The organization each weekend is sending a staffed emergency response vehicle to neighborhoods as part of the Rebuild Minot program. Volunteers will provide water, food, cleanup supplies and emotional support to people working on their flood-damaged homes.
This year’s program began earlier this month and will continue each Saturday and Sunday through Labor Day weekend.
Allan McGeough, executive director of the Red Cross’ Mid-Dakota Chapter, says more volunteers are needed to help hand out food and supplies.
He says that a lot of homes are still being repaired, so the service provided “is really vital.”
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Petroleum Council says it’s hosting more than 40 teachers from across the state for an annual oil seminar for educators.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Wildlife officials have used genetic testing to determine the species of a record fish caught in the Yellowstone River in northwestern North Dakota.
Dan Faiman, of Fairview, Mont., caught the 12-pound fish early this year. It had identifying characteristics of both a walleye and a sauger, so genetic material was sent to a lab. The state Game and Fish Department says the testing determined the fish is a saugeye – a cross between the two.
Faiman’s catch broke the previous saugeye record, set in 1984, by 4 ounces.

LONG POND, Pa. (AP Jun 9, 2013) — Jimmie Johnson absolutely dominated Sunday at Pocono Raceway for his third victory of the season.
The Sprint Cup points leader, Johnson pulled away on both of the last two restarts over the final 10 laps to pull into Victory Lane at Pocono for the first time since he swept both races in 2004.
Johnson also won the Daytona 500 and at Martinsville Speedway this season. He led 128 of 160 laps for his 63rd career Cup victory, and was never seriously challenged a week after his run at a possible win at Dover International Speedway was taken away by a penalty off a restart.
Greg Biffle was second and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Johnson’s teammate, was third. Dover winner Tony Stewart was fourth, followed by fellow Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Newman.
After only one caution in the first 125 laps, they came in bunches over the last 35. Johnson held off Earnhardt with nine laps left and pulled away one more time with four to go.
Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano rounded out the top 10.
