Velda Sam, 92, Jamestown, ND passed away Monday, November 9, 2020 at Eventide Jamestown.
Velda Rode was born December 27, 1927 in Janesville, MN to John and Cecilia (Weckwerth) Rode. Velda attended school in Janesville and Waseka, MN. She was employed at a chicken plant and factory for Armed Services during WWII.
Velda got married to Harry Sam in Waseka, MN before moving to Medina, ND where she was a bartender. Together they had four children.
Velda’s hobbies included movies, roller skating, barn dances, gardening, bingo, watching Westerns and enjoying her grandchildren. She was a member of TOPS, Medina English Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post 245 and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Velda is survived by her daughter Delores Sam; granddaughters Julie Keeler, Nancy Keeler, Marie James (Justin Gainsforth); great granddaughters Katie Severson, Hannah James and Laynie James. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, sons Delbert and Howard, son-in-law Joseph, daughter Ardella and granddaughter Angela.
A private memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Erik Weber officiating. Interment will take place in Highland Home Cemetery.
