Lucille Ratzlaff, age 94, of Valley City, ND, died Tuesday, November 10th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City due to complications from COVID-19. A private family funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 13th at the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery.Lucille Gertrude Gilbertson, the daughter of James and Ida (Kunze) Gilbertson, was born September 13, 1926 in Dazey, ND. Lucille grew and attended school in Valley City and graduated from Valley City High School. On February 5, 1947 she married Walter Ratzlaff in Valley City. The couple lived and worked in Valley City where Lucille worked as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Mercy Hospital for 26 years. After her retirement, Lucille continued to live in Valley City where she enjoyed gardening and her flower gardens. She was a wonderful cook who loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was also a very devout member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City and always look forward to attending and celebrating mass.
Lucille is survived by her two children, Jim Ratzlaff, Wahpeton, ND and Connie (Irv) Hone, Valley City, ND; her grandchildren, Matthew (Carlen) Hone, Carrington, ND, Jerod Hone, Lynchburg, ND, Trevor (Stacey) Hone, Barnesville, ND, Shannon Hone, Valley City, ND, Shelly Borchert, Fargo, ND, Grant Borchert, Carson, ND, Michael (Missy) Ratzlaff, Fargo, ND and Amy (Tom) Thielen, Wahpeton, ND; her great-grandchildren, Bella and Emma Hone, Carrington, ND, Justin and Zach Hone, Lynchburg, ND, Jocelyn Hone, Barnesville, ND and Keegan, Lincoln and Beau Thielen, Wahpeton, ND.
Lucille was preceded in death by her Husband Walter, her daughter Carol Borchert, her son in law Oscar Borchert, her daughter in law Mary Ratzlaff, two infant granddaughters, Chelsey and Krista and two sisters, Mert Rood and Irene Wald.
