Anna Mae (Nelson) Suckut, 94, of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on November 12, at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Anna Mae was born March 13, 1926 in New Home area, south of Sykeston, to Alvin and Mabel Nelson. She attended Hebron Consolidated School in Woodworth before moving to Sykeston. She often talked fondly of her time with the “1937 Grade Girl’s Glee Club” of Hebron with her sisters and friends. She graduated from Sykeston in 1943 when she was 16. She taught school and worked as a telephone operator in Carrington.
On March 22, 1946, Anna Mae married Willis Suckut. They started farming in the New Home area in 1951 shortly after starting their family. They spent any spare time with her sister, Avis Kurtz and husband Clarence. They played cards and enjoyed square dancing before moving to Carrington in 1968. Anna Mae worked at the Borth and Spiedel Dept. Store and the Chieftain over the years. When her mother, Mabel, moved to Carrington, she started the “What Not Shop” as an outlet to sell her afghans. In 1980, she took off for Jamestown in her white Z28 Camaro. She worked at Ben Franklin, finally retiring at 75.
Anna Mae loved making crafts, keeping up with her Grandchildren, and old-style country music. She received a country music magazine and knew all of the singers, their families, and everything you could know about them. She did word search puzzles and watched QVC. She felt very important when QVC would answer her calls using her name. She knew all of them and their families too from watching the show.
Anna Mae is survived by Willis Suckut and their four children, Gary (Marilyn) Summerset, SD; Terry, Sykeston, ND; Lonnie (Connie) Grand Forks, ND and Heidi (Steve) Carr, Wheaton, IL. Seven grandchildren Todd (Jennifer) Suckut, Tanya (Paul) Cain, Jason (Angie) Suckut, Kristin (Tom) Speldrich, Justin Suckut, Alex and Sami Carr. Great-grandchildren Ashleigh (Matt) Steiner, Wade Cain, Trent Suckut, Josie Suckut, Dalton Speldrich, Zachary and Rachel Suckut.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Florence Keller, Avis Kurtz, Verdie Nelson, Lillian Kutz, and Helmer Nelson.
