Melvin Roemmich, 90, Jamestown, ND passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at his home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 23, 1930 to August and Cecelia (Baumesberger) Roemmich near Tappen, ND. When he was 12, they moved to Spiritwood, ND where he was raised on the family farm.
Melvin was drafted into the Army in November 1952 and was deployed to serve in the Korean War where he was promoted to Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in November 1954.
On January 30, 1956 he married Pauline Schaefer. They made their home near Spiritwood, ND where he farmed until the early 1990’s. They moved into Jamestown in 1999.
In his younger days he pitched baseball. He and his wife loved to go dancing. After retiring he enjoyed driving out to the farm and checking out the fields.
Melvin is survived by his wife Pauline; four children Leroy (Kayla Eslinger) Roemmich, Jamestown, ND, Harvey Roemmich, Jamestown, ND, Karen (Doug Gumke) Widmer, Jamestown, ND, Brenda (Ken) Widmer, Jamestown, ND; son-in-law Dan Widmer; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers Norman (Catherine) Roemmich, Raymond (Betty) Roemmich; sister Lenora (Ron) Legler; sisters-in-law Marian Roemmich and Phyllis Wolff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, one brother Elmer Roemmich, daughter-in-law Brenda Roemmich, brother-in-laws LaVerne Wolff, George Schaefer, Bill Schaefer, Fred Schaefer and Jim Schaefer.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Eddy Funeral Home. A private family service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
