Debra S. Backer, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, January 6, 2021 at Sanford Health, Bismarck, ND, from complications due to COVID-19.
Debra Sue Bolme was born November 15, 1957, in Jamestown, the daughter of Donald and Joyce (Carter) Bolme. She attended school at Marion, North Dakota and graduated from Marion High School in 1976. Deb and Elden Backer were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown on September 8, 1984 and they made their home in Jamestown. They welcomed their daughter, Brandi, in June 1986.
Shortly after graduation, Deb began her 42-year career at First Community Credit Union in Jamestown. She was very proud of the Credit Union and loved to grow and achieve goals, both for FCCU and herself personally. Recently the Jamestown branch needed a record setting month to reach their goal for consumer loan growth for the year. Deb said, “Boss, we will do this!” and she proceeded to come through with over $1 million in new consumer loans for the month of October. Deb is the only FCCU loan officer to ever reach this milestone and has done so three times. If there was ever a goal, Deb was absolutely driven to achieving it.
She was a member of various boards in Jamestown, including the National Buffalo Museum. Deb loved to visit and go out with friends, travel to Arizona and go for Harley rides. Most of all, she was a proud “Gran” to her grandson, Rhett.
She will be missed by her husband, Elden Backer; daughter, Brandi Kastet and her son, Rhett; sisters, Donna Waldock and Denise (Rod) Skjeret; brother, David (Sharon) Bolme; aunts Diane Carter and Jean Miller, many nieces and nephews; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Andrew Waldock, and many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff at Sanford ICU in Bismarck.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring of 2021 at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds. Arrangements are in the care of Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice in memory of Deb.
Williams Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
