Marilyn Horton Barrios, 72, died on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas, NM from underlying health conditions, not due to Covid-19.
Marilyn Napier Horton was born June 14, 1948 in Newport News, Virginia to parents Kent and Ruth Horton. They returned to Jamestown, ND in 1955.
She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1964. Marilyn attended Shimer College in Mt. Carroll, Illinois; University of Winnipeg in Winnipeg, Winnipeg, MB, Canada; and University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN where she obtained a BA and MS degree.
Marilyn married Charles Holst in 1968 in Minneapolis. They divorced in 1971. She moved to Devils Lake in 1972, where she met and married Richard Barrios in 1973. Job transfers took Rich and Marilyn from Devils Lake to Pierre, SD; Huron, SD; and Albuquerque, NM. they divorced in 1995.
She is survived by her brother, Bruce (Daphne) Horton, Jamestown, and two nieces; Kate (Michael Wood) Horton, Fargo, ND and Carrera (Jonathan) Tirello, Airway Heights, WA.
Memorial Service: 1:30 PM, Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Grace Episcopal Church with Pastor Bob Hoekstra officiating.
