Clarence Mittleider Sr. passed away January 26th, 2021 in Mesa AZ at Banner Heart Hospital surrounded by family. He lost the love of his life 12 days ago and we truly believe he died of a broken heart.
Clarence was born in Tappen, ND on September 5th, 1937 to Fred and Bertha (Doerr) Mittleider. After he completed 7th grade, he went to work on the family farm before joining the US Navy in March of 1956 and was discharged March 1957 with the rank of PC 3 3rd Class Petty Officer.
Clarence met the love of his life at youth group. He married Evangeline Enzminger on March 28th, 1958 in Tappen ND. They had 5 children, Clarence (Cindy) Mittleider Jr. Fargo ND, Brenda (Jon) Elwonger Vancouver WA, Greg (Julie) Mittleider Gackle ND, Melody Mittleider & Lori (David) Zimney Jamestown ND.
After the Navy he worked as a farm hand for Iszler’s, Gene White, and Irvin Pfaff. Throughout the years he also drove truck for Northern Improvement in Bismarck, ND, Thorton’s Trucking in Tappen, ND and Mayer Truck Line in Jamestown, ND. He managed Park Apartments in Jamestown and Fargo for many years. After moving to Arizona, he enjoyed working at Wal-Mart as a door greeter and volunteering to help wherever he could.
Clarence was a very faithful man and believed deeply in his Lord Jesus. Being highly involved in the church at St Paul’s United Methodist brought him much joy. He loved to play pinochle, garden, make canned goods, and give whisker rubs to all the grandchildren. His brownies and chicken and dumplings (heavily supervised by grandma) will be greatly missed.
Clarence is survived by his siblings Viona Zimmerman, Leo Mittleider, and Darlene Simonson and sister-in-law June Berger.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, parents, in-laws Edwin and Lydia Enzminger, 2 infant great grandsons, his brothers Elton, Melvin and sister Delilah Roesler, brother and sister in laws, Ed Simonsin, Herb Roesler, Loretta Mittleider, Edwin Zimmerman.
Clarence had 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. He loved every one of them and was so proud of all of them.
The family will have a double celebration of life of Vangie and Clarence in the spring in Jamestown ND.
