Edgar Hornung, 93, Jamestown, ND was the youngest of 10 children born to Ernest and Rosa (Zwinger) on May 14, 1927. Edgar passed away peacefully on February 6, 2021 under the loving care of Gackle Care Center, where he resided since October 2019 and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Edgar attended Hornung School (established by their family) in rural Petersville Township north of Pettibone, ND. He served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1948.
Four daughters were born to Edgar and Harriet (Koenig); Valery (Curt) Harr, Vickie (Dan) Poland, Joyce Price, and Carol (Rollie) Stahlhut.
Edgar spent most of his career as a truck driver. He owned/operated Hornung Truckline, hauling cattle, grain and hay. Edgar moved to Jamestown in 1971 to continue driving for various companies in the surrounding area.
Edgar enjoyed going to casinos, playing pinochle, fishing, visiting, traveling and attending or watching the National Finals Rodeos in Las Vegas. He was a faithful member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Jamestown.
He is survived by his four daughters; eight grandchildren Jason (Steph) Harr, Brent (Kayleen) Harr, Brett (Shannon) Poland, Chad Price, Jesse Price, Paula (Chad) Ohnstad, Ashley Stahlhut and Brandon Stahlhut; 18 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, one grandson Wade Harr and many special nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gackle Care Center, PO Box 335, Gackle, ND 58442 or Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Eddy Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, February 12 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating. Interment will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND immediately following the service.
