It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bernice Mae Suko on February 3,2021 at the age of 96.
Bernice was born to Fred and Martha Fust on October 29,1924 in Jamestown, North Dakota and grew up in that area. She married Emanuel Suko on November 12,1945. To this union were born Connie and Mark.
Mom became a Christian in her early twenties and her strong faith in God carried her through to the end. Over the years, Mom and Dad had many missionary friends that they kept in touch with. Whenever they were in the area, they would stop in for a meal or would spend the night with Mom and Dad.
They farmed near Alfred, N.D. For a number of years and moved to Jamestown, N.D. In 1967. After leaving the farm, Bernice worked at the Dr. Anne Carlson school until her retirement. During that time they took care of her niece, Hollie, when her parents were unable to look after her.
Bernice will always be remembered for the loving and caring person that she was. She took care of her mother for many years and lovingly looked after Dad after he had his stroke. After Dad died in April, 2009, she would often tell us how much she missed him. As long as she was able to, she would pick up her older friends, who didn’t have a vehicle and bring them to church with her. In 2012 she moved to Aberdeen, SD to be closer to her son and family.
Grateful for having shared Bernice’s life are her two children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: daughter, Connie and (Sam) Magnus, Granddaughter Darla and (Brendan) Kowalenko, Great grandchildren Josiah and Bethany, Grandson, Shawn and (Kirsty) Magnus, Great grandchildren, Grace and Jonah, son, Mark and (Laurie) Suko, Grandson John Suko, Granddaughters Melissa (Iain) Olmstead and Sarah Suko.
Preceding Bernice in death are her husband, Emanuel, her mother and father Martha and Fred, and her brother Leroy.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Aberdeen, SD
