Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown Rural Fire Department is asking the community if it knows of space the department can use while the building’s access is temporarily blocked by the upcoming sanitary sewer project.
Part of the project construction will include tearing up sections of Third Avenue Northwest and Second Street Northwest that run in front of the fire department, for a day or two, blocking the firefighters access to their equipment.
The temporary storage requirements includes space needed for a 14-foot trailer.
The secure building, also requires 10-foot-tall doors for the trucks, at a local central to the city.
Anyone with information on a building can call Brian Paulson at 701-320-8963 or 320-252-5741.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jun 26, 2013) — Interstate Engineering, Inc. is providing design and construction engineering services for the City of Jamestown’s sanitary sewer system due to existing sewage collection deficiencies that exist in the northwest and southwest portions of the city.
In order to correct system deficiencies in the sanitary sewer system as well as provide the appropriate capacity to handle peak flows generated during flooding and wet weather events, the project will have two phases.
The first phase will include inflow and infiltration defect repairs to the collection and conveyance system. Phase two will include capacity upgrades for major lift stations and force mains to convey peak flows during flood and wet weather events.
Included in the work will be improvements to the sanitary sewer; work on lift stations #8, #9, and #10; and improvements to the associated force main serving the northwest and southwest areas of Jamestown.
Construction on Jamestown’s sanitary sewer system is scheduled to begin in early July. The Jamestown sanitary sewer project includes improvements to the sanitary sewer and work on three lift stations. Work on the project is expected to take place starting July 8 in the area of 5th St and 3rd Ave NW in Jamestown. Motorists are asked to slow down in construction areas, use caution and watch for workers and equipment.
Reminder: an open house will be held for the Jamestown sanitary sewer project from 5 to 7 p.m. on July 2 at Jamestown City Hall.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have recovered a body at a Montana home owned by the grandmother of a North Dakota murder suspect.
Bismarck Police Deputy Chief Randy Zieglersays officials with the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department were serving a search warrant at the home in Poplar, Mont., on Wednesday when they discovered the body.
Authorities aren’t saying whether it’s the body of 18-year-old John Swain, who went missing from his Bismarck home in mid-May. Swain had recently moved from Sioux Falls, S.D. Authorities believe he was killed by 25-year-old Theo Crowe, of Trenton, who’s in custody in Williston on unrelated charges. Poplar is his hometown.
Crowe received a bad conduct discharge from the Army in February. He doesn’t yet have an attorney representing him in the murder case.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A woman facing a child abuse charge in the death of a toddler on the Spirit Lake Reservation in North Dakota will remain in custody until trial.
Federal Magistrate Judge Alice Senechal issued the order Wednesday after a hearing in Grand Forks in which prosecutors detailed the criminal background of 31-year-old Hope Tomahawk Whiteshield. Prosecutors say her record in tribal court includes charges of child abuse, endangerment and abandonment, as well as public intoxication.
Whiteshield’s attorney unsuccessfully requested that she be allowed to stay with relatives.
Whiteshield is accused of pushing 2-year-old Laurynn Whiteshield down a hill near her home on June 12, then bathing the unresponsive child and putting her to bed. An autopsy concluded the girl died of a head injury.
Whiteshield is married to the girl’s grandfather.
MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck man has pleaded guilty to two felonies related to a Mandan bar holdup in January.
Thirty-nine-year-old Shane Wentz will be sentenced later on robbery and conspiracy charges in the armed robbery of the gambling site at the Last Call Bar.
Wentz also has pleaded guilty to several felony counts in the robberies of two Bismarck businesses and a burglary at a third in early February. He’s to be sentenced for those crimes on July 24.
A co-defendant in the Bismarck cases was sentenced earlier to eight years in prison. A second man charged in the Mandan robbery has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy count and is to be sentenced Aug. 5.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Ten people have applied to be interim chancellor of the North Dakota University System.
Applicants include former state Commerce Commissioner Shane Goettle (GEHT’-uhl) and Georgia Southwestern State University President Kendall Blanchard, who was a finalist for the chancellor position nine years ago.
The state Board of Higher Education decided earlier this month to buy out the remaining two years of embattled chancellor Hamid Shirvani’s contract after months of pressure from critics who questioned Shirvani’s leadership style. The board hired Bismarck State College President Larry Skogen to serve as acting interim chancellor for a short period while it searches for a longer-term interim replacement.
The job is interim because North Dakotans will vote on a measure next year that could change the state’s higher education structure.
WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – West Fargo is getting its first convention center.
The Cambria Suites Hotel and Convention Center plans to have 15,000-square feet of meeting space and a four-story hotel with 120 rooms. The hotel will feature arts and culture from the area.
Groundbreaking for the complex, which will be located off Interstate 94, is scheduled Thursday.
West Fargo is one of North Dakota’s fastest growing cities. Its population has grown from about 15,000 people in 2000 to an estimated 29,000 residents in 2012.
The Fargo and Moorhead, Minn., area has about 200,000 people.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – City leaders have awarded $26.6 million in bids to expand the downtown Bismarck Civic Center’s Exhibit Hall.
The work is slated to be completed in time for a big oil conference in May 2014.
Officials say the project will double the size of the exhibit hall by adding 50,000 square feet. The west side parking lot will be removed to make room for the bigger hall.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The chief judge of the Spirit Lake Tribal Court has been removed from office by the tribal council Wednesday after tendering her resignation late last week.
Judge Shirley Cain says she submitted her resignation Friday, making it effective in 30 days as required by contract.
Cain said she received a letter from Chairman Roger Yankton Wednesday directing her to leave the office.
Cain declined to explain her reasons for resigning or why tribal officials ordered her gone earlier because she is waiting for final paperwork and her last check from the tribe.
She said the recent case of a Spirit Lake toddler dying after being removed from a Bismarck foster home and returned to a family member on the reservation was a factor.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A gay couple from Fargo planning to get married in Minnesota this summer is celebrating a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that should provide federal benefits for legally married same-sex couples.
But they and others who are on both sides of the issue don’t expect the decision to change North Dakota’s stance against gay marriage.
Fargo’s Lenny Tweeden, who plans to marry Wayne Rosell in August, calls the ruling a victory, but says he’s “not expecting a difference” in attitudes among most state residents.
Seventy-three percent of North Dakota voters in 2004 approved a law against same-sex marriage.
Christopher Dodson, a spokesman for the North Dakota Catholic Conference, says the ruling is part of a “trend we’re concerned about,” but says the state law is on solid legal footing.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Department of Health is urging people at risk for HIV and AIDS to get tested today in observance of National HIV Testing Day. Nearly 600 cases of HIV/AIDS have been reported in North Dakota since surveillance began in 1984. HIV testing is available at test sites throughout the state.
