Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jun 29, 2013) The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, a high speed chase covering 30 miles on I-94 Saturday morning, reaching 130 mph, ended with the car’s tires spiked and squad cars rammed in Barnes County.
Trooper Troy Hischer reports the chase started just West of Casselton on I-94 about 11:50-a.m. The car was going 110 miles per hour heading West.
A trooper tried to stop the car, and the driver led the trooper on a 30 mile long chase reaching speeds of 130 miles per hour.
When the Chrysler 300 neared Valley City a Valley City Police Officer was able to spike the car’s tires. The chase then ended with the driver intentionally ramming his car into two Barnes County squad cars.
24-year-old Larry Jacobson Jr. of Fargo was arrested for fleeing officers and reckless endangerment. He’s being held in Barnes County Correctional Center.
The Highway Patrol says Jacobson’s car is also suspected to be involved in criminal activity in Fargo Friday night.
Charges in multiple jurisdictions are pending.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jun 28, 2013) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continue to maintain the releases from Jamestown and Pipestem Dams.
On Friday Bob Martin in Jamestown said, the plan is to keep the Jamestown Dam release at 700 cfs, and the Pipestem Dam release at 200 cfs for a combined release of 900 cfs for the next two weeks.
He said the release is being maintained because of high James River levels south of Jamestown, and into South Dakota, stemming from recent significant rain events that have added to the river levels.
He added, the Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs are slowly dropping, even after the releases were reduced last week.
The Corps in Omaha has reported that James River basin conditions and forecasts will be continuously evaluated and adjustments to the releases will be made as needed due to future rainfall and reservoir inflows.
Jamestown, ND, (KCSi-T.V. News June 28, 2013) — As a benefit to the community, Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) has coordinated with the 7th District Medical Society of North Dakota and Healthcare Environmental Services to have a community sharps drop-off location on the campus of JRMC. This is a service the community of Jamestown has not previously had and will be the first community sharps disposal kiosk available in the state of North Dakota.
Sharps disposed at the community drop-off kiosk must be packaged in a tightly capped plastic container two liters or less in size, most soda, sports drink and juice bottle less than two liters should fit easily in the deposit drawer. Materials allowed in the sharps kiosk include used needles, testing devices such as lancets, and other medical supplies that would be considered sharps (device or object used to puncture or lacerate the skin). Materials not allowed in the drop-off containers include garbage, chemicals or medications.
The drop-off kiosk is located just off the road on the south side of the main building on the JRMC campus. The kiosk is a black mailbox style container. To learn more about the community sharps disposal kiosk contact JRMC Quality at (701) 925-1050.
JRMC would like to thank the following organizations that contributed to the success of this project: Seventh District Medical Society of North Dakota, Healthcare Environmental Services and local community and healthcare organizations.

SANBORN, N.D. (AP) – Officials are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed $3,000 worth of fireworks in a storage bunker on a farm near the southeastern North Dakota town of Sanborn. But the town’s show will go on.
The blast happened last Thursday. No one was hurt. Volunteer firefighters say they plan to replace the fireworks and stage the Fourth of July show as planned.
Fire Chief Tim Lyter says the show will not be quite as big as planned, but the fireworks supplier should be able to replace nearly all of what was lost.
The town west of Valley City has only about 200 residents, and hundreds of people travel from the surrounding area to see the annual show.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say a car that went out of control in Fargo and crashed into an apartment complex garage at a high speed caused a significant amount of damage.
The two men in the car were taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries after the crash about 3:30 a.m. Monday.
Authorities say they expect to file charges in the case.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – A Dickinson man accused of trying to kill his girlfriend is headed to trial next month.
Prosecutor Rhonda Ehlissays Matthew Foxworthy rejected a plea offer from the state, and a five-day trial has been scheduled to begin July 17.
Foxworthy is accused of choking his girlfriend until she passed out a year ago. He’s also accused of knocking out some of the woman’s teeth and breaking some of her facial bones. Ehlis says the woman is scheduled to have her last surgery the week after the trial is scheduled to end.
Foxworthy could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted of attempted murder. He also faces charges of aggravated assault and fleeing.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A new law aimed at strengthening penalties for drunken driving in North Dakota takes effect on Monday.
The new law will require jail time or community service work for first-time DUI offenders who have a blood alcohol content of 0.16 percent. That’s twice the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
The bill also would require mandatory participation in the so-called 24/7 sobriety program for repeat offenders.
A second DUI arrest also would require a minimum sentence of 10 days in jail. Under the new law, drunken drivers who cause the death of another person can face up to 20 years in prison.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 25 people have been killed in alcohol-related crashes so far this year in the state.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Students at a Minot school destroyed by flooding two years ago will be moving into their new school by the end of the year. The new Erik Ramstad Middle School is expected to be ready for students in November. Superintendent Mark Vollmer says the new school will be able to house 720 students.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Gas prices across North Dakota are dropping as the Fourth of July holiday nears.
Gas prices have fallen as much as 50 cents per gallon in some places since May. That’s when prices were at an all-time high.
AAA says the state average for a gallon of regular unleaded in North Dakota was $3.73 on Friday. This is down 51 cents from the all-time high of $4.24 set on May 22. Prices in eastern cities like Grand Forks and Fargo remain at least 10 cents to 20 cents lower than on the western side of North Dakota.
The national average is $3.23.
Eugene LaDoucer of AAA North Dakota says gas prices remain at a level that most Americans still continue too high.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota heavy equipment manufacturing company is showing off its $50 million expansion project.
The Caterpillar Reman Drivetrain facility in West Fargo will help produce components for large off-highway trucks and other mining equipment.
Caterpillar acquired the North Dakota assets of Gremada Industries Inc. in July 2008.
While announcing the expansion in 2011, company officials said they expected the move to create about 250 new jobs, nearly doubling the current workforce at the plant
A grand opening ceremony is scheduled today at 2 p.m.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – New legislation offers North Dakota oil drillers tax breaks beginning today if they stop burning and wasting natural gas.
The Republican-sponsored bills passed the Legislature this year. They offer oil companies tax incentives for capturing and using the byproduct of the state’s booming crude production.
Records show 275 million cubic feet of natural gas goes up in smoke each day in North Dakota, or enough to heat more than 1 million homes daily. Flaring also accounted for about 5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions in North Dakota last year. That’s about the same amount that 945,000 automobiles would emit.
About one-third of the state’s gas production is being burned off because development of the pipelines and processing facilities needed to handle it has not kept pace with production.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – A new monthly survey suggests the economy remains strong in nine Midwest and Plains states and business will continue to improve in the months ahead.
The overall index for the region declined to 55.6 in June from 56.2 in May, but any score above 50 suggests growth.
Creighton University economist Ernie Goss says business leaders expect slower growth in the next few months. Modest job growth is also expected as the hiring index dropped to 53.7 in June from May’s 59.3.
The survey covers Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
The survey of business leaders and supply managers uses a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100. Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests growth while a score below that suggests decline.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is looking for people to help promote the state’s wine industry.
The agency is forming a six-member grape and wine advisory committee, which will help decide on grants for research and advertising.
A bill in the 2013 Legislature set aside $80,000 to support the grape and wine industry.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring will appoint the committee, which will include two grape producers, two winery owners, a representative of the North Dakota Grape and Wine Association, and a producer of fruit other than grapes for winemaking.
The application deadline is Wednesday.

SPARTA, Ky. (AP Jun 30, 2013) — Matt Kenseth’s fuel-only pit road gamble helped him beat Jimmie Johnson late and win Sunday’s rescheduled 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway.
A race that was Johnson’s to lose ultimately became Kenseth’s series-high fourth victory of the season even though he passed on getting new tires following the race’s ninth caution. He widened his lead after a wild four-wide restart on lap 246 that saw Johnson’s No. 48 Chevy spin from second place on a dominant day he led 182 of 267 laps. The series points leader finished ninth.
Kenseth led twice for 38 laps, including the final 23 in the No. 20 Toyota.
Second was Jamie McMurray in a Chevy, followed by Clint Bowyer, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch.
Rain on Saturday forced NASCAR officials to postpone the race to a daytime start.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – The Colorado Avalanche opened Sunday’s NHL draft by selecting forward Nathan McKinnon from Halifax of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
MacKinnon was the consensus top player available after scoring 32 goals and 75 points in 44 games for the Mooseheads.
Florida grabbed Finnish center Aleksander Barkov with the second selection, and Tampa Bay used the third choice to take Halifax left wing Jonathan Drouin (DROO’-an). Defenseman Seth Jones went fourth to the Nashville Predators after being projected as the No. 2 player available. He’s the son of former NBA player and assistant coach Popeye Jones.

The New Jersey Devils were about to select ninth when they traded the pick to the Canucks for goaltender Cory Schneider.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Six recruits who plan to play college hockey for the University of North Dakota were selected in the NHL draft.
UND says that’s the most of any NCAA program in the nation.
Forwards Adam Tambellini, Luke Johnson and Wade Murphy and defensemen Keaton Thompson, Tucker Poolman and Gage Ausmus all were chosen in Sunday’s draft.
It marked the 13th time in school history that UND had at least six players taken in a single draft, and the fifth time under head coach Dave Hakstol.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – The Minnesota Wild have added a couple of players to the organization with state connections.
The Wild made seven picks in Sunday’s draft, though only one came in the top 80 selections. For the first time in franchise history, they didn’t have a first-rounder, due to the trade that brought Jason Pominville from Buffalo.
In the fifth round, the Wild selected 6-foot-4 defenseman Carson Soucy, who is bound for Minnesota Duluth. He played last season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
