James ‘Jim’ Martin Madsen, age 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, March 27, 2021.
He was born May 26, 1936, in Jamestown, ND to Carsten and Lillian Madsen. He married his best friend and love, Angela Cysewski on September 3, 1955. Together they raised four wonderful daughters on the Madsen Simmental and Grain family farm of Jamestown.
Grandpa Jim was strongly devoted to his family, faith and community. Having had served on the Bloom Oil Company Board, Jamestown School Board, North Dakota Simmental Association and the Basilica of St. James Finance Committee, Jim led with integrity and a strong work ethic. He truly enjoyed spending his free time outdoors with family and friends fishing, hunting and long afternoon country drives. When the dust settled, Grandpa Jim would sit in his recliner to read a Louis L’Amour western novel with the coined phrase, ‘cool me a coke and pop me some corn.’ Jim is survived by his wife, Angela, of 65 years, daughters Mary (Doug) Caskey of Richmond, MN, Kathy (Scott) King of Malta, MT, Nancy (George) Dahl of Jamestown, ND, and Jeanne (Bob) Schultz of Fargo, ND. His ten grandchildren: Danielle (Brian) Kammermeier, Angela (Kirk) Grannes, David (Kristen) Schultz, Jill (David) Brame, Sarah (Adam) Miller, Joseph (Cara) Koll, Jon (Lisa) Dahl, Kayla (Tom) Uhlir, Suzanna Koll and Megan Schultz; and, 13 great grandchildren, ‘the little critters.’ Jim is also survived by his brothers Robert Madsen of Lake Havasu, AZ and Richard (Linda) Madsen of Fort Morgan, CO, sister-in-law, Sylvia (Chuck) Woldum of Bloomington, MN and brother-in-law Thomas (Evonne) Cysewski of Billings, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Joseph and Agnes Cysewski, son-in-law, Wesley Koll, sisters-in-law Betty Madsen and Marjorie Clemens and brother-in-law Gene Cysewski.
Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.
Family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.
Arrangements are in the care of Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.
