Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 2, 2013) — The Buffalo City Tourism Foundation Board is mulling over the idea of changing the name to Tour Jamestown.
On Tuesday’s (Jul 2, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Tourism Executive Director, Searle Swedlund said, the words “Buffalo City” doesn’t define the geographical area on Jamestown, North Dakota.
He added, with the world wide web searches Tour Jamestown would give a more global sense to the area.
He said a name change would also reference outdoor, and other activities available in the Jamestown area.
The Foundation Board continues to address marketing challenges, including how tourism has an impact on economic development.
Swedlund pointed out the the Foundation Board will meet on July 15, 2013 and will hear a presentation from two advertising agencies.
He noted the web site www.tourjamestown.com is being updated with information about tourism attraction in Jamestown and the area.
Swedlund said the upcoming drag races at Jamestown Regional Airport on July 27, 28 continues to grow each year, and also has a large economic impact on the Jamestown area. The Foundation Board recently approved a grant request to help buy a stager for the drag races.
Another tourism, economic impact on the area each year is the Ft. Seward Wagon Train.
Ramrod Delno Kleinknect says this year the wagon train attracted riders from 18 states and Germany.

Cody Boulduc and brothers Allen and Nathan Ratliff each were convicted on all of the felony counts they faced in the April 2012 incident.
Authorities say the men broke into the home of Sherman and Carmen Jones, demanding prescription drugs and money and stealing various items including jewelry and medicine. They were accused of binding the couple with duct tape and beating them with small clubs, and also killing their dog.
The jury deliberated about four hours Tuesday before convicting the suspects on charges of burglary, assault, robbery, theft and felonious restraint. A sentencing date was not immediately set.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple is asking President Barack Obama to declare 19 North Dakota counties and two Indian reservations a federal disaster area to help them recover from severe storms and heavy rainfall.
Dalrymple sent the letter on Tuesday.
The governor says many areas of North Dakota received record rainfall between May 17 and June 16, leading to major flooding that caused an estimated $7 million in damages to roads, bridges and other public infrastructure.
Dalrymple says that already-full drainage areas, rivers and tributaries quickly overflowed and caused widespread overland flooding.
Areas covered include the counties of Benson, Bottineau, Cavalier, Dunn, Kidder, McHenry, McKenzie, McLean, Mountrail, Nelson, Pembina, Pierce, Ramsey, Sheridan, Stark, Towner, Walsh, Ward and Wells and the Spirit Lake and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa reservations.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A new automatic purge function that North Dakota State University officials say might be to blame for the deletion of 45,000 of President Dean Bresciani’s emails violates the school’s own policies for how long records should be kept.
School administrators’ emails can’t be deleted for at least one year after the current fiscal year ends. The new function dumps any emails more than a month old into a trash file.
NDSU Chief Information Officer Marc Wallman says school officials haven’t followed their own policy for keeping emails, in part because they weren’t aware of it. He also says the policy likely is impractical.
The deleted emails might have been subject to an open records request. Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem is looking into the matter.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Some neighbors say a Canadian pipeline company’s attempt to muffle noise by planting trees around a pump station in southeast North Dakota isn’t working.
TransCanada finished a tree-planting project along the Keystone pipeline near Fort Ransom last month.
Bill Kiebke lives less than a mile from the pump station. He says the tree-planting project was a failure when it comes to quieting the four, 5,000-horsepower electric turbines at the site.
Kiebke’s son, Joe, says the trees planted on three sides of the pump station are now funneling noise directly at their home. He says it has created an amphitheater effect.
TransCanada spokesman Shawn Howard says facility is operating below permitted levels but the company will continue to work toward pacifying neighbors.

North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple and U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer are scheduled to speak at today’s banquet.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The Minot City Council has rejected plans for a new Walmart store on the city’s north side.

Minot has a Walmart on the city’s south side. But residents complained that adding another store on the north side of town would increase traffic there.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s agriculture commissioner says a research effort to develop corn hybrids for the northern U.S. and southern Canada should bring new opportunities and options to the state.
Doug Goehring says Monsanto plans to spend $100 million over the next 10 years to develop new varieties of earlier maturing corn hybrids more suited to North Dakota’s climate. The project includes a sustained breeding effort with field testing, agronomic training, marketing and support.
