Ronald “Ron” Heidt of Cleveland, ND, passed away at age 71. The second of ten children born to George and Georgia Heidt, he grew up in Lemmon, SD and Jamestown, ND graduating from Jamestown High School with the class of 1968. He was a U.S. Navy and Vietnam War Veteran, serving as a helicopter mechanic aboard the USS New Orleans.
Ron and Sandi “Sam” Heidt were married in 1973 in Dickinson, ND. Valuing his family, his faith, and pride in hard day’s work and a job well done, he was employed by Jamestown Implement and later the North Dakota State Hospital, retiring in 2012 after 28 years of service.
Husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend, he is remembered for his love of the outdoors, classic cars, and working on anything with a motor and four wheels. Calls to Ron’s “my car is making this noise” and “my mechanic said this” hotline were always answered and known to save others a hefty sum with his diagnosis or advice. He was a lifetime member and past president of the North Dakota Street Rod Association, being awarded Street Rodder of the Year in 2003. Family time while Brad and Sarah were growing up was spent fishing, boating, and camping, along with weekends traveling to rod runs with he and Brad’s many custom builds including his 1936 Ford Coupe and Brads 1953 Ford F100.
Forever missing him and telling stories of “The Old Timer” are his wife, Sam, daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Scott Eisenbeisz of Aberdeen, SD, son and daughter-in-law Brad and Kasey Heidt of Jamestown, ND, three granddaughters, Leah Eisenbeisz, Emma Eisenbeisz, and Tamika Holte, along with his special hound Annie and granddogs Captain, Lettie, and Berkley.
Thankful for sharing Ron’s life and appreciative of his mechanic ability and willingness to help fix anything and everything are his brothers; Roger (Diane) Heidt, Sioux Falls, SD; Richard Heidt (Kathleen Dotson-Dalum), Eau Claire, WI; Russ (Ines) Heidt, Carrington, ND; Ray (Henri) Heidt, Bismarck, ND; Dean (Mary) Heidt, Rapid City, SD; Dave (Cathy) Heidt, Bismarck, ND; sisters LaVonne (Steve) Bender, Rapid City, SD; Marietta “Toots” Heidt, Jamestown, ND, and sister-in-law Nancy Heidt, Dublin, VA; and many nieces and nephews with memories of Uncle Ron. He will be remembered for his kindness and patience during the hunt and the quiet wait for the bite of a fish on the line (while always having plenty of snacks on hand).
He is proceeded in death by his parents, George and Georgia, parents-in-law Pete and Mary Samson, and his brother Randy Heidt.
Honorary Pallbearers continuing the tradition of chasing roosters and enjoying happy hour with a prime rib dinner at the end of the hunt is the crew from the BS Lodge: Brad Heidt, Scott Eisenbeisz, Ray Heidt, Niles Mueller, Ryan Heidt, Rod Eisenbeisz, Nick Fayville, Chris Fayville, and Mike Schoch.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Jamestown Cancer Support Group (HHH) or JRMC Hospice.
