BISMARCK, N.D. (KCSi-T.V. NewsJul 5, 2013) – Gov. Jack Dalrymple and First Lady Betsy Dalrymple offered the following statement regarding the death of Jean Guy, who was North Dakota’s First Lady from 1961-1973. Guy passed away Friday, July 5, 2013.
“Betsy and I were saddened by the news of Jean Guy’s passing,” Gov. Dalrymple said. “She was a great asset to the state of North Dakota and was an invaluable partner to Bill Guy in his 12 years as North Dakota’s governor. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Guy family.”
Bill and Jean Guy farmed in Amenia, near Casselton, N.D. They had five children. Bill Guy was our state’s longest-serving governor from 1961-1973. He passed away on April 26, 2013, at the age of 93.
Jean Guy was 90, and passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota governor’s office says former First Lady Jean Guy has died at the age of 90.
Jean Guy was the wife of Gov. William Guy, who was North Dakota’s longest serving governor. He died April 26 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 93.
The Forum reports that Jean Guy’s death comes two weeks after she suffered a stroke.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple says Jean Guy was a great asset to the state of North Dakota and was an invaluable partner to her husband in his 12 years as North Dakota’s governor from 1961 to 1973.
William and Jean Guy farmed in Amenia, near Casselton, N.D., and had five children.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Williams County authorities have arrested four more people and are looking for a fifth in connection with the killing of a Williston hobby rancher.
Fifty-eight-year-old Jack Sjol (shohl) had been missing three weeks before his body was discovered May 14 near his ranch. Authorities say he was shot to death. They haven’t discussed a motive.
Thirty-three-year-old Ryan Stensaker, of Williston, earlier was charged with murder. He might enter a plea Aug. 5.
The sheriff’s office Wednesday arrested two people for conspiracy to commit murder, a third person for facilitation of murder and 29-year-old Amber Jensen, of Williston, for hindering law enforcement. Jensen was the only one formally charged as of mid-Friday morning. She doesn’t have an attorney listed.
Authorities are looking for another woman on a facilitation of murder warrant.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Attorneys for 10 people accused of selling illegal synthetic drugs out of a downtown Bismarck skateboard shop are asking a judge to dismiss the charges.
The 10 Discontent defendants argue that they are being singled out – that other retailers selling the same products aren’t being prosecuted. A hearing is set for Aug. 22.
All 10 suspects have pleaded not guilty. They include the store’s owner, manager and eight employees.
NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – A yacht owned by the Three Affiliated Tribes has made its maiden voyage on Lake Sakakawea.
The 149-passenger boat will be used for entertaining guests at the tribe’s casino near New Town, and eventually for riverboat gambling on the Fort Berthold Reservation.
Tribal officials unveiled the boat Wednesday and took it out for its initial cruise on the Missouri River reservoir. The boat is named Sacagawea, an alternate spelling of Sakakawea.

CAIRO (AP) – An Egyptian Health Ministry official says six people have been killed in clashes around the country involving opponents and backers of ousted President Mohammed Morsi, as well as security forces. In Cairo, a crowd of Islamists surged across a bridge over the Nile River after nightfall and clashed with Morsi opponents near Tahrir Square and outside the state TV building. One witness reports gunfire and stone throwing. Clashes, some involving police, erupted in cities of southern Egypt, along the Suez Canal and in the Nile Delta as Morsi supporters marched on local government buildings.
VATICAN CITY (AP) – Pope Francis has cleared two of the 20th century’s most influential popes to become saints. The pontiff Friday approved a miracle that was needed in order to canonize Pope John Paul II. And in the case of Pope John the 23rd, Francis waived Vatican rules so he can be declared a saint even though the Vatican hasn’t confirmed a second miracle attributed to him. A ceremony is expected before the end of the year — possibly in early December.
SANFORD, Fla. (AP) – According to members of Trayvon Martin’s family, it was his voice that was heard on tapes of a 911 call, a voice that was heard screaming for help. If that’s the case, it would boost the claims by prosecutors that George Zimmerman, and not Martin, was the aggressor in their fight before Zimmerman fatally shot Martin. The teen’s mother and brother testified for the prosecution today.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has vetoed legislation that would have made it a crime for federal agents to try to enforce gun control laws. Nixon announced the veto Friday. He noted that the U.S. Constitution generally gives supremacy to federal laws over conflicting state ones. The bill would have made it a misdemeanor crime for federal agents to attempt to enforce any federal gun regulations that “infringe on the people’s right to keep and bear arms.”
NEW YORK (AP) – Authorities say remains of a firefighter killed in the Sept. 11 attacks have been identified more than 11 years after his death at the World Trade Center. The city medical examiner’s office said today that Lt. Jeffrey Walz’s remains were collected before May 2002 but were retested and identified only recently. The 37-year-old Walz was an engineer before he decided to follow his father’s example and become a firefighter in 1992. He was killed in the trade center’s north tower, leaving a wife and toddler son.
