Jamestown (CVHD) Central Valley Health District this week will have COVID-19 Testing at the Jamestown Civic Center in May Monday, Wednesday, and Friday’s from 11-a.m. to 12 noon, at the Jamestown Civic Center, with the exception of Memorial Day, May 31, using the Rapid Testing, BinaxNow.

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Tourism Director, Searle Swedlund says plans and application information continues to be developed as local officials will file an application with the North Dakota Legacy Fund Investment Committee, as he says the Buffalo City Park project is still a “go,” to obtain state funding.
On Tuesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Searle said the presentation with the Legacy Fund Investment Committee will be this fall.
He pointed out that traffic counts show that annually 8-million vehicles drive by the planned site on I-94 annually, and that 270,000 stop in Jamestown, and 50,000 to 70,000 vehicles stop at the Frontier Village and the National Buffalo Museum, each year.
He said the $60-million dollar Buffalo City Park project, is estimated to gross $13-million dollars annually with annual expenses estimated at around $10-million, showing an annual profit in park operations.
Searle said the Buffalo City Park will be a unique experience, as nothing like it is currently in operation in North Dakota.
On another topic the public is invited to participate in the Frontier Village cleanup day on Friday May 7.
The day is set for May 7, from 9-a.m. to 3-p.m. With lunch available provided by Casey’s General Store.

University of Jamestown Director of Athletics Sean Johnson “We are thrilled that Coach Zalesky has decided to lead our men’s wrestling program. He is a perfect fit for our institution and our department and will provide tremendous leadership for our men’s wrestling student-athletes.”
Zalesy says, “I’m excited to be part of the University of Jamestown family and look forward to leading the Jimmie men’s wrestling program to success in the classroom, the community and in competition.”
Zalesky, a native of Shueyville, Iowa, has enjoyed incredible success as a student-athlete and coach.
In his 23 years as an NCAA Division 1 head coach, Zalesky won three NCAA Division 1 national championships, 13 conference championships, compiled a 274-109-2 dual match record and coached over 50 All-American wrestlers.
As the head coach at Iowa (1997-2006), he led the Hawkeyes to the NCAA title in 1998, 1999 and 2000 and was national runner-up in 2001 and 2004. Zalesky coached 10 NCAA champions, 20 Big Ten champions, 45 All-Americans and two Olympians during his time as head coach at Iowa.
During his 14 years as head coach at Oregon State (2006-2020), Zalesky captured seven Pac-12 wrestling titles and finished in the top-25 at the NCAA Tournament six times including an eighth place finish in 2013. He was named the conference Coach of the Year in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. What They Are Saying About Jim Zalesky
Terry Steiner, USA Wrestling Women’s National Team Coach
University of Iowa graduate and NCAA champion
“He is a great hire for the University of Jamestown. Jim has been successful as both an athlete and a coach at the highest level of collegiate athletics. Coach Zalesky will bring not only a great wrestling mind, but he will be a great part of the university’s athletic department, the community of Jamestown, and the state of North Dakota. There is not a doubt in my mind that he will bring the wrestling program to a completely different level in Jamestown.”
Mike Moyer, Executive Director, National Wrestling Coaches Association
“Coach Zalesky represents the gold standard in transformational coaching. He has been extraordinarily successful as a wrestler and coach at the highest levels. He has served in various national committee and board leadership roles at the highest levels in college wrestling over his tenure. The University of Jamestown should be congratulated for hiring a coach of his caliber and reputation.”
Lee Roy Smith, Executive Director, National Wrestling Hall of Fame
“Jim Zalesky epitomizes excellence in the world of wrestling as a coach and as a competitor. He excelled in the sport as a competitor in the state of Iowa during his high school years and at the University of Iowa during his collegiate career. He continued his legacy of excellence in coaching as head wrestling coach for his alma mater at the University of Iowa from 1997-2006, and at Oregon State University from 2006-2020, before accepting what is sure to be a promising legacy ahead for the University of Jamestown’s wrestling program.”

MLB
— Adolis García hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to complete the Texas Rangers’ comeback in a 6-3 win against the Minnesota Twins. García had three hits, including his seventh home run, and three RBIs. Kyle Gibson, making his first start against his former team, gave up three runs and three hits with eight strikeouts.
— Boos and bad words streamed loudly from the seats in the Houston Astros’ return to Yankee Stadium, and New York got a homer and four hits from Giancarlo Stanton to sate those spiteful fans with a 7-3 victory. In Houston’s first visit to the Bronx since their sign-stealing scam was exposed, an error by Astros third baseman Alex Bregman in the sixth inning let New York blow the game open.
UNDATED (AP) — Clayton Kershaw lasted just one inning in the shortest start of his stellar career while Kyle Hendricks pitched a complete game for the Chicago Cubs in a 7-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a split doubleheader.
Exactly 11 years after he went just 1 1/3 innings against Milwaukee in what was his shortest start, Kershaw didn’t last long in this one. The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner gave up four runs and four hits. He faced nine batters in a 39-pitch inning. The Dodgers lost for the seventh time in nine games. Hendricks went seven innings in his sixth career complete game.
Elsewhere on diamonds:
— Austin Meadows hit two homers and drove in a career-high five runs, and the Tampa Bay Rays capitalized on the Los Angeles Angels’ fielding ineptitude for an 8-3 victory. Kevin Kiermaier added a two-run double for the defending AL champions, who moved back above .500 with their third straight win. Tampa Bay’s first four runs were abetted by the Angels’ first three errors in a four-error performance by the majors’ worst fielding team. Meadows then hit a solo homer in the seventh inning and a three-run shot in the eighth. Mike Trout hit his eighth homer in the Angels’ third straight loss.
— Mitch Keller tossed shutout ball into the sixth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates slipped past the San Diego Padres 2-1. Keller kept the Padres off balance by mixing his pitches effectively. He allowed two hits over 5 2/3 innings and struck out five. The right-hander entered with an 8.20 ERA after his first five outings this season. Keller also got his first major league hit, a single to right field in the fifth. Four relievers combined to give up only one run in 3 1/3 innings for the Pirates. Richard Rodriguez earned his fifth save by working a scoreless ninth.
– Kyle Lewis and Kyle Seager homered, reliever Kendall Graveman extended his scoreless streak to 18 2/3 innings and the Seattle Mariners beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-2. Lewis followed Seager’s go-ahead sacrifice fly that made it 2-1 with a three-run homer in the eighth. Lewis, the 2020 AL Rookie of the Year, became the 54th player in major league history to reach 20 home runs by his 90th game. He hit the milestone in game No. 88, tying Alvin Davis for the fastest in Seattle history. The Mariners have won four of six and are 10-4 following a loss.
— Dylan Cease pitched one-hit ball for six innings, struck out 11 and amazingly got three hits in his first pro plate appearances as the Chicago White Sox routed the Cincinnati Reds 9-0. It was a historic night at the plate for Cease, who doubled and singled twice before getting pulled for a pinch-hitter. Cease is the first American League pitcher since Jarrod Washburn in 2001 to have a three-hit game.
— Andrew McCutchen hit a pair of solo homers and Brad Miller slammed a three-run shot to back Aaron Nola, helping the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5. Nola struck out 10 and allowed one run and five hits in six gritty innings as the Phillies held on to earn consecutive wins for the first time since they started the season 4-0.
— Xander Bogaerts (ZAN’-dur BOH’-gahrtz) hit a two-run homer, Nick Pivetta struck out eight over five innings and the Boston Red Sox beat the skidding Detroit Tigers 11-7. Alex Verdugo, Hunter Renfroe and Kiké Hernández also went deep for Boston, which led 8-2 after three innings but needed to hold off the Tigers late in a slugfest that featured 24 hits and 13 pitchers. Detroit has lost six straight and 11 of 12.
— Mitch Moreland hit a two-run homer on the heels of Jed Lowrie’s two-run double in the second to back Cole Irvin’s pitching gem, and the Oakland Athletics made the early lead hold up in a 4-1 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night. Irvin struck out a career-high nine batters while dazzling over a career-best eight scoreless innings in his first career start against the Blue Jays.
— Harold Ramirez hit a go-ahead double in the eighth, pinch-hitter Jake Bauers added a two-run homer later in the inning and the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 7-3. Strong bullpen work by Nick Sandlin, Nick Wittgren and Cal Quantrill shut out the Royals over the final four innings as Cleveland rallied from a three-run deficit.
He is the first White Sox pitcher with three hits in a game since Tom Bradley on May 14, 1972, a year before the designated hitter came into play. Jose Abreu homered as the White Sox won for the eighth time in 11 games.

Milwaukee council OKs settlement with former Bucks player
UNDATED (AP) — The Milwaukee Common Council has approved a $750,000 settlement in a lawsuit brought by former Bucks player Sterling Brown over his 2018 arrest in which he was taken to the ground and shocked with a Taser.
The settlement does not include an admission that Brown’s constitutional rights were violated, which Brown’s attorney had sought in talks with the city. Instead, it has an apology from the city and Milwaukee police that recognizes that the incident over a parking violation “escalated in an unnecessary manner and despite Mr. Brown’s calm behavior.” The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the agreement also requires the city to commit to changes in the police department’s standard operating procedures.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Emergency officials in Mississippi say four people were killed when a small plane crashed into a home. Hattiesburg police were called to the scene of the crash just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Initially they said two people had died; now they have found four victims. Officials didn’t immediately identify them or say whether they were on the plane or in the home. Police have called the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate the cause, and they’re asking anyone who finds debris or wreckage to notify police. Hattiesburg is about 90 miles southeast of Jackson.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Relentless wind and rain have pummeled large swaths of the South, spawning tornadoes, sparking a flash flood emergency in Alabama and damaging homes from Texas to Virginia. Crews are preparing to continue cleaning up debris and assessing destruction across the region as some schools canceled classes or moved them online due to damage at buildings and surrounding areas. The National Weather Service’s prediction center warned Wednesday morning that flash flooding could also now affect the Central Gulf Coast as storms move southeast. Rain continues to soak much of the region. So far, three deaths have been reported.
(AP) Today, former President Donald Trump will know his fate on the world’s biggest social platform, Facebook. Since the day after the deadly Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol, Trump’s social media accounts have been silent — muzzled for inciting violence using the platforms as online megaphones. Now Facebook’s quasi-independent Oversight Board will announce whether Facebook must restore his account around 9 a.m. ET. If it rules in Trump’s favor, Facebook has seven days to reinstate the account. If the board upholds Facebook’s decision, Trump will remain “indefinitely” suspended. Either decision could lead to major repercussions for U.S. politics and regulation of social media.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has set a new vaccination goal to deliver at least one dose to 70% of American adults by July Fourth. He’s focusing on easing access to shots as his administration tackles the vexing problem of winning over the doubters and those who are reluctant to get inoculated. Demand for vaccines has dropped off markedly nationwide, with some states leaving more than half their vaccine doses unordered. Biden is calling for states to make vaccines available on a walk-in basis and will direct many pharmacies to do likewise. Biden’s goal equates to delivering at least the first shot to 181 million adults and fully vaccinating 160 million by Independence Day.
NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. birth rate fell 4% last year — the largest single-year decrease in nearly 50 years. That’s according to a government report being released Wednesday. The rate dropped for moms of every major race and ethnicity, and in nearly every age group. It fell to the lowest point since federal health officials started tracking it more than a century ago. Experts say the pandemic no doubt contributed to last year’s big decline. Anxiety about COVID-19 and its impact on the economy likely caused many couples to delay children. But many of the 2020 pregnancies began well before the U.S. epidemic.
WASHINGTON (AP) — When Secretary of State Antony Blinken travels to Ukraine this week he’ll be carrying a tough anti-graft message and strong U.S. backing for the country’s response to Russian aggression. Blinken will also be taking along a familiar face in the Washington-Moscow tug-of-war over Ukraine: Victoria Nuland, now the No. 3 State Department official. The one-day stop comes at a time of heightened U.S. tensions with Russia. The mere presence in Kyiv of Nuland is likely to irritate Russia. Nuland is a Russia hawk who was a target of Moscow’s attacks on the U.S. during the Obama administration.
BEIJING (AP) — Global stock markets are mixed after Wall Street sank. London and Frankfurt opened higher while Hong Kong. Chinese and Japanese markets were closed for holidays. Investors are watching corporate earnings and looking ahead to this week’s U.S. employment data. Most economic data point to improving conditions, but investors are worried about renewed coronavirus outbreaks and a possible uptick in inflation.
