Biologists say the nesting colony at Chase Lake National Wildlife Refuge is the largest in North America.

Chase Lake National Wildlife Refuge Manager Neil Shook says an aerial count shows about 15,000 nests. Biologists estimate two adults per nest.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – An autopsy has confirmed that a body found in Montana is that of a teenager missing from North Dakota.

Bismarck Police Lt. Gary Malo says  the body found June 26 at a home in Poplar, Mont., is that of 18-year-old John Swain. Swain had recently moved from Sioux Falls, S.D., to Bismarck, and authorities believe he was lured to a home where he was hit with a hammer before his legs were dismembered.

Two people have been charged in the death. Authorities say Swain’s body was found at a home owned by the grandmother of one of the suspects, 25-year-old Theo Crowe, of Trenton.

Crowe and 20-year-old Joshua Clark, of Stanley, are charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Neither has a listed attorney.

Mau was the executive director of the Arc of Bismarck, a nonprofit that provides education, advocacy and support for disabled people.

Court records say that Mau was one of the signers on the organization’s checking account, which requires dual signatures.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say O.J. Simpson’s former girlfriend has turned herself in after initially failing to report for a 34-day jail sentence on charges of felony burglary and drug possession in a Minnesota case.

38-year-old Christie Prody reported on Saturday, eight days after she was ordered.

Prody had pleaded guilty in May to stealing painkillers from an elderly couple in Moorhead, Minn., while working as an in-home care assistant.

On July 1, Clay County Judge Steven Cahill denied her request to wait until after the weekend to begin serving because her mother had to work and Prody had no one to care for her 2-year-old daughter.

Prody and Simpson began dating in 1996 after he was acquitted of killing his ex-wife and her friend in Los Angeles.

North Dakota’s Legacy Fund gets 30 percent of the state’s oil tax collections. It topped $1 billion in assets in April. None of the money can be spent until 2017, and only then if the Legislature decides by a two-thirds vote to dip into the fund.

West Virginia Senate President Jeff Kessler will lead that state’s delegation. He has advocated the creation of a similar fund in West Virginia.

The date of the trip to North Dakota hasn’t been finalized. About a dozen West Virginia lawmakers are expected to take part.

HOME RUN DERBY…

NEW YORK (AP) – Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis, who leads the majors with 33 homers, will be one of eight participants in the Home Run Derby next Monday night during All-Star festivities at Citi Field.

Davis was chosen by American League captain Robinson Cano (kuh-NOH’) of the New York Yankees. They will be joined on the AL squad by Detroit Tigers bopper Prince Fielder, who won the event last year and in 2009, and a player to be named.

New York Mets star David Wright, the National League captain, selected 20-year-old Washington phenom Bryce Harper along with Colorado outfielders Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer (kuh-DY’-ur).

The Nationals acquired outfielder Scott Hairston from the Cubs for a minor league pitcher. The Cubs signed Hairston to a two-year deal in the offseason to platoon in right field, but he struggled, batting .172 with eight home runs and 19 RBIs.

NBA…

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Los Angeles Lakers have made their first significant move since free agent center Dwight Howard agreed to go to Houston. Chris Kaman, a 7-foot free agent center who spent the first eight years of his career with the L.A. Clippers, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Lakers worth a reported $3.2 million.

This will be Kaman’s second straight season on a one-year contract.

A person with knowledge of the decision says the Denver Nuggets have agreed to separate sign-and-trade deals that will land them guard Randy Foye from the Utah Jazz and send swingman Andre Iguodala (ihg-woh-DAH’-lah) to the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors had planned to sign Iguodala to a four-year, $48 million deal as a free agent last week. Instead, the restructured deal will give Golden State more salary cap flexibility, deliver Denver a $9 million trade exception and hand Utah another draft pick.            – The Washington Wizards have signed No. 3 overall draft pick Otto Porter and second-round selection Glen Rice Jr.

TENNIS-RANKINGS…

LONDON (AP) – Roger Federer has fallen to No. 5 in the new ATP rankings, the first time in a decade he’s been that low. Federer’s second-round loss at Wimbledon, a year after taking the title, drops him from No. 3. He was fifth in the rankings of June 23, 2003, two weeks before he won Wimbledon for the first of his record 17 major championships.

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray remains at No. 2 in the new rankings, behind the man he beat for the Wimbledon title, Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich).

In the women’s rankings, Serena Williams remains at No. 1 despite losing in the fourth-round at Wimbledon. Marion Bartoli, who won Wimbledon for her first Grand Slam title, moves from No. 15 to No. 7 in the WTA rankings.

     TENNIS-HALL OF FAME…

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) – Two-time defending champ John Isner (IHZ’-nur) defeated fellow American Ryan Harrison 7-6, 6-2 in the opening round of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.

The 6-foot-9 Isner used his big serve to win his 11th straight match on Newport’s grass courts.

     TENNIS-WTT…

WASHINGTON (AP) – Oh, the audacity. A World TeamTennis club is challenging the Los Angeles Lakers for all-time winning streak supremacy.

The Washington Kastles began the WTT season riding a 32-game winning streak, following back-to-back unbeaten championship seasons. They liked to tell anyone who would listen that they were second only to the Lakers among the “longest winning streaks in major U.S. pro sports history.”

That changed last night when they won their season opener against the New York Sportimes – in front of a sellout crowd that included first lady Michelle Obama – to tie the Lakers’ mark of 33 from the 1971-72 season. Another win tonight against the Boston Lobsters would break the record.

GROSSETO, Italy (AP) – The trial of the captain of a shipwrecked Italian cruise liner has begun in a theater converted into a courtroom in Tuscany. Francesco Schettino (frahn-CHEHS’-koh skeh-TEE’-noh) is charged with multiple manslaughter, abandoning ship and causing last year’s shipwreck of the Costa Concordia. He says he’s innocent. The judge adjourned the trial until next week because of a lawyers’ strike.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Two large wildfires continue to rage in Nevada. Firefighters are working to gain the upper hand on a mountain blaze near Las Vegas that’s kept hundreds of people from their homes and another southwest of Reno that jumped in size a day earlier.
