North Dakota health officials have reported 96 new coronavirus cases statewide. Active cases fell slightly to 794. The Bismarck Tribune reports active cases have trended downward in recent weeks, hovering around 800 the past few days. More than 1,000 cases were generally active in April at any given point in time. The state’s coronavirus death toll has grown by two since Thursday to 1,504. Thirty-four people are hospitalized in North Dakota due to COVID-19. Coronavirus-related hospitalizations have fallen considerably since they peaked at 332 in mid-November. Nearly 44% of residents are fully vaccinated. Vaccinations statewide have slowed considerably in recent weeks.
Jamestown (CVHD) Central Valley Health District this week will have COVID-19 Testing at the Jamestown Civic Center in May Monday, Wednesday, and Friday’s from 11-a.m. to 12 noon, at the Jamestown Civic Center, with the exception of Memorial Day, May 31, using the Rapid Testing, BinaxNow.
By screening with rapid antigen tests, event attendees will be able to receive their test results within 15 minutes via text notification. The test also is less invasive than a PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test in that it uses a nasal swab to collect a sample from the lower part of the nostril.
If a person tests positive, they should isolate at home immediately and a case investigator will be in touch with them within 24 hours. If the screening yields a negative result, individuals should continue to monitor for symptoms.
Interested individuals should fill out an online survey at testreg.nd.gov for faster registration.
For more information about rapid antigen tests and North Dakota’s screening strategies, visit https://www.health.nd.gov/rapid-antigen-screening
Valley City (CCHD) City/County Health reports, that testing continues to be important. If you have any symptoms, it is important to be tested. If you have symptoms and need to be tested at other times contact your clinic.

She says the testing is drive through at the area adjacent to the west door, with assistance by the National Guard.
The times are 12:30- 1:30p.m. Quick testing will be available.

Valley City (CSi 5-14-21) Here’s the latest message from Valley City Mayor Dave Carlsrud:
“April 30th was National Arbor Day and one celebration was a tree planting in City Park. That was a nice beginning, but you can plant trees and benefit your yard and community most anytime. Did you know trees, can reduce erosion, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen, create wild life habitat, beautifies and increases property values. So there are many good reasons to plant a tree(s).
To successfully plant and prune trees, correct methods will help ensure healthy, beautiful trees. Information can be obtained through our Barnes County Extension Office https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/barnescountyextension and https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/publications/lawns-gardens-trees/basic-guidelines-for-pruning-trees-and-shrubs .
We are fortunate to have an active Beautification Committee in Valley City as those folks have been very successful securing tree planting grants and planting trees. One of their projects is the Hi-Line Prairie Gardens and Orchard on 5th Street NE, stop and have a look. A big THANK YOU to all the folks on our Beautification Committee. There is room for you, please think about volunteering or gifting money.
While walking, I was noticing lawns are being mowed, brush is being removed and our town is beginning to show its “spring cleaning”. Good job folks, YOU make a difference. Thank you.
COVID-19 Vaccine is making a difference. Our CCHD has vaccine on hand and welcome walk-ins for vaccinations. To minimize your time, please call ahead, 845-8518. Having immunization is comforting.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A bicyclist was killed and a woman who came to his aid was seriously injured in a crash in Dickinson. The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a 26-year-old man was riding his bike on South Main Street about 6 p.m. Sunday and fell into the southbound lane of traffic. A motorist saw the man fall, stopped her vehicle, got out and began to give first aid. The patrol says the 85-year-old driver of a Chevy Tahoe ran over the bicyclist and the woman trying to help him. Authorities say the bicyclist was killed and the woman who was seriously injured was taken by air to a hospital in Bismarck.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Downtown Fargo was surprisingly busy over the weekend, due in part to an outdoor fundraiser and an indoor spring fling. Masks were in relative short supply. North Dakota State University student Andrew Kodet and his girlfriend, University of North Dakota student Kenzie Nylin, say they will wear masks where required. But because of the new Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and because they’re fully vaccinated, they’re happy to go mask-free. Not everyone is ditching face coverings. Akayla Rondorf, of Moorhead, Minnesota, says she’s fully vaccinated and still plans to wear a mask indoors, for the safety and comfort of those around her.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s top oil regulator says the state’s crude production grew in March and should keep rising throughout the summer, following a lackluster start to the years. Figures released Friday show that the state’s daily oil output increased 2% to 1.108 million barrels per day in March. State Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms attributes the uptick to oil companies bringing more wells online that had already been drilled but not yet fracked, which is a necessary step before a well starts producing oil. The Bismarck Tribune reports that at the height of the COVID pandemic, just one crew was working to bring newly drilled wells online. Now there are nine.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A former suburban Minneapolis police officer charged with second-degree manslaughter in Daunte Wright’s death is scheduled to appear in court via videoconference. Former Brooklyn Center Officer Kim Potter has an omnibus hearing, also known as a pretrial hearing, Monday afternoon in Hennepin County. The hearing is to go over evidence and determine if there is probable cause for a case to proceed. Wright was a 20-year-old Black motorist who was killed April 11 after a traffic stop. The former Brooklyn Center police chief has said he believes Potter meant to use her Taser on Wright but fired her handgun instead.
