Daniel Scott Rubin was born May 14, 1968 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Michael Rubin and Ellen Berge Pederson.
At 4 months old he moved to Indianapolis IN and lived there for four years. In 1971 he was joined by a sister, Julie. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at one year of age. He moved to Jamestown ND in 1972. He was accepted into the Anne Carlson School and graduated from high school in 1989. In the summers, he attended Elks Camp Grassick in Dawson and loved the experience.
After graduation he moved to Golden Valley MN and attended the Courage Center for Independent Living where he learned to live independently and lived in his own apartment in St. Paul, MN. He lived there for 13 years before returning to Jamestown. He eventually moved to Bismarck to be closer to family.
In 2012 he moved to Mountain Shadows Community Homes in Escondido CA and worked at United Cerebral Palsy until his illness. He moved to the Gardens by the Sea in Carlsbad and was under the care of Hospice of North County. He passed away on March 27 at the age of 52. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Braves fan with massive amounts of memorabilia He loved professional wrestling and had attended several matches. He had a huge music and video collection. His favorite band was KISS and he was looking forward to attending another concert.
He is survived by his loving family, Ellen Pederson and stepfather, Gene Pederson of Carlsbad CA, his loving sister, Julie Pynes and her husband Andrew and niece and nephew, Jocelyn and Bryce of Bonny Doon, CA. Also, step dad, John Kracht of Valley City. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Curran and Ruby Berge, his uncle, Dr. Jerry Berge and aunt, Mona Williams.
Any memorials would be appreciated to the Anne Carlson Center or Elks Camp Grassick.
