Gloria L. Nuanes, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 4th, 2021. She was born on January 2, 1936, in South Fork, Colorado to Richard Fresquez and Margaret Lopez.

She eloped and married the love of her life, Joe Nuanes on July 17, 1954. Gloria and Joe began their life together in Colorado, but they also spent time in Washington and New York. In addition to owning the Top of the Mountain restaurant and lounge in Pine Junction, they enjoyed travelling, fishing, and camping with their children and grandchildren.

Gloria loved to tell of her experiences in her first job at Star Bakery. She later started a career in healthcare as a candy striper and she grew into her role as a caregiver by working as a certified nursing assistant, a case worker for Park County, and ultimately, she retired from the Visiting Nurses Association.

Gloria enjoyed spending time with her loved ones. Some of the things she enjoyed most were catching the first and biggest fish, playing bingo and canasta, playing the penny and nickel slot machines, going for car rides, sitting by the campfire, and watching Alaskan Bush People. Gloria’s children and grandchildren reside in many different states, and she enjoyed travelling to see all of them frequently, from the ocean of Marina Del Rey, to the city of Denver and the mountains of Bailey, to the plains of North Dakota. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren in their many activities such as sports, theatre, recitals, proms, and graduations.

She always dreamt of visiting Alaska and Jamaica, and she was able to do so in 2018 and 2019 with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was happy to finally see bears in the wild and the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. While on a Disney cruise to the Caribbean islands she was able to visit Cozumel, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands where she waded in the Caribbean Sea.

She is survived by Glory Farsdale (Bob), Ruth Day (Cory), Joan Urenda, Joe Nuanes (Mickie), Pat Nuanes (Tina), Frank Nuanes (Sandy), Barbara Nuanes-Schempp (Jeff), 22 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Nuanes, her son Joey Nuanes, her granddaughter Jasmine Farsdale, her son in-law Mike Urenda, her parents and many other siblings.
