Ronald G. Schwehr – July 26, 2021

Posted by KCSi News in Obits on July 29, 2021 12:00 pm / no comments

Ronald G. Schwehr passed away peacefully in Fargo North Dakota at the age of 75 on July 26th, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Ron was born August 6th 1945 to George and Elizabeth at Trinity hospital in Jamestown and was the oldest of five children. Ron spent his childhood growing up on the family farm north of Spiritwood and attended elementary and high school in Jamestown. As a child he loved playing baseball and following the Minnesota Twins.

After graduating from St John’s Academy in 1963 Ron attended NDSU and received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture and was a member of the ROTC program. Upon graduation Ron enlisted in the US Army and was commissioned as a second Lieutenant where he served two tours during the Vietnam war. During his deployment, Ron received multiple honors and awards to include the Bronze Star for Valor.

After his military service Ron moved back to Jamestown, where he met a waitress, Rosella Faye Bender. Ron and Rose married in 1972 in Sanborn, ND and built a family together raising three children, Troy, Caroline, and Robert. The couple moved to MN, as Ron would begin a 38-year career working for the US government with the FHA (Farmers Home Administration). The couple put down permanent roots in Roseau in 1976 where they would spend the next four decades.

Ron was very active in the Roseau Community where he started and managed a number of Youth Baseball programs for 35+ years. During the summer Ron could always be found at one of the baseball fields setting up for Thursday night League, driving around in the ”old cattle truck” looking for players to play in Warroad, or running the concession stand. His passion for youth baseball and love of seeing kids on the field gave him so much joy and satisfaction. For his years of dedication to youth baseball Ron was inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021. Ron was also very active in other organizations including the VFW, JC’s, and Sacred Heart Church.

Ron was preceded in death by his father George, mother Elizabeth, and brother Ray. He is survived by his wife Rose, children, Troy and Julie Schwehr, Caroline and Justin Fehlhafer, and Robert Schwehr, siblings Don (Melida) Schwehr, Lois Laches, and Linda Ratay. He is also survived by grandchildren Hunter Schwehr, Peyton Schwehr, Tanner Schwehr, Autumn Fehlhafer, and “ General” Grant Fehlhafer.
