Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 17, 2013) — The Buffalo City Tourism Grant/Executive Advisory Board, Wednesday approved allocating $5,000 to the Frontier Village to expend to help bring the World Fast Draw Association Shootout to Jamestown.
Representing the Frontier Village at the meeting were Charlie Tanata, and Colleen Conley.
The event is coming to the Frontier Village amphitheater August 9, 10, & 11, 2013.
Ms. Conley said the total budget is $7,000 with the $5,000 to be paid to the WFDA for $2,970 in prize money and for trophies and the sanction fee.
There is a participation fee, however, there will be free admission.
The event will be evaluated by the number of participants and Village visitors and a random survey, with the information to determine the success of the event, and possible annual WDFA matches in Jamestown in the future.
Co-sponsors of the event also includes the Quality Inn & Suites, Buffalo Inn, and Seekins’ Motel.
An advertising plan is in place to publicize the event.
Numerous events are planned including a local celebrity event, along with participants from around the country who are in competition with each other with accumulated point totals, from the events.
Single action revolvers are used, with wax bullets or blanks used, in the timed events.
In other business, the board heard a presentation from Wayne Deery of Newman Signs for a new billboard contract for 2014. Deery said a total to 10 billboards will continue, with 7 paid for, over 36 months, at a cost of $2,930 per month.
Buffalo City Tourism Director Searle Swedlund said the item is in the upcoming budget, which is awaiting approval.
The billboards are located along I-94 near Valley City West Fargo, west of Mapleton, and Steele. Also on Higway 281 near Ellendale, and Carrington, and Highways 5 and 3 near Dunseith.
The board also approved spending up to $1,000 on a locomotive train cars, and a caboose, a replica, which was built several years ago in Jamestown which is powered by a six cylinder car engineer.
The train has been stored at Bonanzaville and is in need of restoration.
An outside party will bid on the item on an on-line auction which ends Wednesday at 5-p.m.
Issues concerning the purchase included the restoration and storage, along with trailering to Jamestown.
The late Jim Carlascio of Jamestown and other B-N employees were responsible for the building of the train, which was later donated to Bonanzaville, where it has sat idle the past few years.
It was suggested that the restored train could be used in parades and on display at locations in Jamestown to point to Jamestown’s railroad heritage.
Update…
Swedlund said Wednesday evening that, the bid was up to $2400, so BCTF will not be the owner of this item.
He added that hopefully someone is from Jamestown will be the winning bidder.
It was thought that if Bonnazaville was selling the item,. that the train was to come back to Jamestown if the museum no longer wanted it.
He said he was not certain that this is the end of the parade train conversation.
