Wayne Gordon Monson -Sept, 10, 2021

In the early morning hours of September 10, 2021 at Ave Maria Village, Wayne Gordon Monson peacefully went to his heavenly home.

August 19, 1926 in Marion, ND, Albert and Lillian (Lee) Monson welcomed their 2nd son. Wayne was proud to be the second oldest of 13 and loved his siblings and their families dearly. He was baptized and confirmed on November 9, 1941 at St. Thomas Church in Svea Township, ND. Wayne attended rural Plano #66 School grades 1-8, Greenland High School grade 9 and Marion High School grades 10-12. He graduated from Marion High School in 1943. Wayne served in the US Army from 1951-1952 in Panama.

Wayne married the love of his life Donna Mae Bowers on May 13, 1960. They were blessed with two children, Ron and Lisa. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and sharing in their activities. He looked forward to the Sunday family calls when he could visit with the grandchildren and the apple of his eye, great granddaughter Opal.

Wayne managed the Equity Elevator in Marion, was a delivery driver for Dakota Maid feed, and managed Park Apartments. He touched many lives throughout his years of employment.

Wayne was an admirable mentor to many people throughout his life. He lived his faith in all he did. Wayne was a member of St. Paul’s UMC, where he faithfully served on many committees, taught Sunday School and was a youth leader. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years, helping over 30 young men become Eagle Scouts and earning the Silver Beaver Award for 25 years of Boy Scout Leadership. Wayne hired several young people to work for him to give them their 1st job experience.

Survivors include his son Ron Monson, Jamestown, ND daughter Lisa (Bryan) Hoffer, Jamestown, ND; 3 grandchildren, BryAnna (Zac) Meyer, Racine, WI, Baxter Hoffer, Volga, SD, LiAnna Hoffer, Ypsilanti, ND; great granddaughter, Opal Meyer, Racine WI: sisters, Marilyn Burkhardt, Jamestown, ND, Arlyce (Leonard) Chadwick, Jamestown ND, Lois Hofmann, West Fargo, ND, Julaine (Mark) Monson-Cummings, Clinton, MT; brothers, Edward (Jean) Monson, Lakefield, MN, Dale (Virginia) Monson, Mandan, ND, Rodney (Barbara) Monson, Lorne Monson, Fargo, ND; sisters-in-Law Billie Monson, Enderlin , ND, Donna Monson, Litchville, ND, Eileen Monson, Jamestown, ND, He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families and cousins.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Lillian, his wife Donna, his mother and father-in-law Harold and Ida Bowers, brothers Lowell Monson, Noelyn Monson, and Allen Monson, sister Neldae Frank, and brothers-in-law Robert Burkhardt, George Frank, and Richard Hofmann, Harold Bowers Sr., Robert Bowers, Edward Bowers; sisters-in-law Margaret Olson, and Betty Thatcher: three nephews and three nieces.

Visitation 5-6:30 pm Friday September 17th at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church

Prayer Service 6:30 pm Friday September 17th at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church

Funeral Service 11:00 am Saturday September 18th at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church

Family Burial immediately following the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Jamestown, McCoy Ministries Jamestown or Youth for Christ Jamestown.

Arrangements are in the care of Eddy Funeral Home.
