Betty Lou (Bjornsrud) Koebernick, 96, passed away on September 25, 2021 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND. She was born on December 22, 1924 in Sanborn, ND, the daughter of Mads and Karen (Skorseth) Bjornsrud. She grew up in Sanborn and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City, ND. She graduated from Sanborn High School in 1942. In 1943, she graduated from Business College at Jamestown, ND.
After graduation, Betty went to Tacoma, WA and was a typist for the US Maritime Commission at the Naval Shipyard. She moved back to Sanborn in 1945, where she owned and operated Bowen Grocery.
Betty married Rueben Koebernick on October 9, 1960 in Sanborn and they made their home on the Koebernick farm. In 1983, Rueben and Betty moved to Valley City, ND. Betty worked for the Sheyenne Care Center from 1977 until her retirement in 1987.
On May 4, 2009, Betty moved into Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn.
Betty will be remembered for her love of her family, her puzzle books and playing Skip-Bo with her Ave Maria friends.
There was a special place in her heart for her grandson, James Howe, who took such loving care of his grandma.
Betty is survived by 4 children, Joanne (Gary) Benjamin of Valley City, ND, Gary (Debra) Koebernick of Staples, MN, Karen (Todd) Willprecht of Lidgerwood, ND and Bonnie (Patrick) Howe of Valley City; a daughter-in-law, Judy Bowen of Valley City; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rueben; son, Robert “Bob” Bowen; parents; brothers, Martin, Harold, Oscar and Willard; sisters, Mabel, Alfhild, and Sally; 4 grandchildren; 5 nephews; a niece; and 2 great nephews, Chuckie Bjornsrud and Brad Bjornsrud.
A very special thank you to Ave Maria Village and hospice for the wonderful care you gave Mom. And to Deacon Ken and Chaplin Dave for the many prayers. Mom is finally HOME.
The funeral service for Betty Lou Koebernick will be held at the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home Chapel in Valley City at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday. She will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City. The funeral service will be live streamed and archived along with her obituary at www.lerudschuldt.com.
