Update…

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 28, 2013)  —  The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports  a 47 year old Jamestown man  died Sunday shortly after 7-p.m. after a motorcycle crash on County Road 40 three miles east of Jamestown.

Sgt Joshua Rude says the driver  Albert L. Buchanan of Jamestown,was westbound en route to Jamestown from Spiritwood riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.  The driver failed to make the curve turning south and ran off the roadway into the west ditch.  Once in the ditch the motorcycle rolled and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The motorcycle sustained damage to all areas.   Buchanan, who was not immediatley identified was taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet and the patrol said alcohol was believed to be involved in the crash.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office assisted.   The crash, remains under investigation.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 26, 2013) — Jamestown Police report a man was injured Friday abour 3-p.m., when his motorcycle collided with a car on Business Loop West.

The motorcyclist was driving down Mill Hill on Business Loop West in front of Don Wilhelm’s when a vehicle in the center turning lane of Business Loop West turned left in front him.

The motorcyclist was taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center, by Jamestown Area Ambulance Serive.

The woman driving the vehicle was cited.

Extensive damage was reported to the car, and the motorcycle was nearly totaled.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 26, 2013) — A 49 year old Moorhead man was injured Friday about 2-p.m. when his vehcilce went off the road on I-94  near the Spiritwood Exit.

The vehicle was eastbound when it went out of control around mile marker 269.

The vehicle went off the road and tipped to its side but didn’t roll over.

The Jamestown Fire Department was called to help with extraction.

The driver was transported by ambulance to Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 28, 2013) — Jamestown Police arrested two people Sunday afternoon just after 1-O’Clock, after locating a stolen vehicle in Jamestown.

Local officials were notified by North Dakota State Radio in Bismarck that avehicle stolen from a Bismarck woman was believed to be in Jamestown.

The vehicle was being tracked with its OnStar security system.

The vehicle was foundand stopped on First Avenue, South near Hugo’s.

Police arrested the male and female without incident in the vehicle for possession of stolen property.

The vehicle was returned to its owner.

The incident is still under investigation.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 26, 2013) — Interstate Engineering in Jamestown is informing the public of the updated scheduled of work, with the Jamestown sanitary sewer project.

Construction is expected to start this week, (July 29,2013), on 3rd Ave NW from 9th St NW to 6th St NW.

Motorists should expect road closures in this area starting Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

Crews are expected to begin work in the area of 3rd Ave NW and 5th Street NW on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

During this time, 3rd Ave NW will be closed in the area of 5th Street NW. There may be a partial lane closure on 5th Street NW. However, 5th Street NW will remain open.

At Historic Franklin School, home for CSi, the project will border the entire south side and east side. When the east side is closed to traffic, visitors and customers can enter through the south entrance, or enter the parking lot from 4th Avenue Southwest, to be able to access the elevator entrance.

Motorists are asked to slow down in construction areas, use caution and watch for workers and equipment.

The timetable is subject to weather delays, so all residents are encouraged to visit the website. Construction information will be available at CsiNewsNow.com and updates on The Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2.

Interstate Engineering wants citizens along the proposed route to sign-up at the project website for email alerts. Jamestown, ND Sewer Construction Project. The website has maps, the most current information, and will email changes of importance.

Also the west parking lot of the Jamestown Business Center is closed so crews can begin setting up equipment and preparing for excavation of the lift station.

The parking lot is closed for the next several months. People are asked to use the south or east doors of the Jamestown Business Center.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Council met in Special Session Friday morning (Jul 26, 2013) to approve the Second Reading of several Ordinances.

The Ordinances were originally scheduled to be recommended for approval at the Thursday Police Committee meeting, however, Mayor Katie Andersen said any changes in the Second Reading of the Ordinances that was then planned for the August 5th City Council meeting would not take effect until seven days after the ordinances were published after the meeting or about August 14th, and by holding the special meeting Friday morning, the Ordinances will take effect on about August 6th.

Specifically the Ordinance concerning fines for passing a school bus was re-written.

All the Ordinance updates were made to come under compliance with state laws, that were approved by the 2013 State Legislature.

Concerning Ordinance No. 1401 to amend Sec. 1-9 of the City Code pertaining to general penalties to increase

the maximum fine for a class B misdemeanor to an amount not to exceed one thousand five hundred dollars

($1,500.00).

2) Concerning Ordinance No. 1402 to amend Sec. 2-58.1 (Sec. 2-57 more appropriate per Assistant City Attorney)

of the City Code pertaining to mandatory evacuations gives authority to the mayor to order a mandatory

evacuation of the city after a proclamation of a civil emergency or local disaster is made.

3) Concerning Ordinance No. 1403 to amend Sec. 2-59 of the City Code pertaining to the possession, use, carrying,

transfer, transportation, storage, or display of firearms during declared emergencies.

4) Concerning Ordinance No. 1404 to add Sec. 2-61 of the City Code pertaining to the possession, use, carrying,

transfer, transportation, storage, or display of firearms during declared emergencies.

5) Concerning Ordinance No. 1405 to amend Sec. 15-33 of the City Code pertaining to the time and place of sale of

fireworks to allow additional dates for fireworks to be sold and used on December 26th through January 1st .

6) Concerning Ordinance No. 1406 to amend Sec. 21-02-10 of the City Code pertaining to the classification and

disposition of traffic offenses to increase the fine for overtaking or passing a school bus from fifty dollars

($50.00) to one hundred dollars ($100.00) and adds a one hundred dollar ($100.00) fine for permitting operation

of a motor vehicle that overtakes or passes a school bus. (Per Assistant City Attorney –upon review of other

legislative action–there were multiple changes which need to be addressed relative to this section.)

7) Concerning Ordinance No. 1407 to amend Sec. 21-03-16 of the City Code pertaining to operation of authorized

emergency motor vehicles to allow fire trucks and ambulances to display flashing blue lights in cases of a

reported emergency involving a possible personal injury, death, or property damage in addition to red and/or

white lights.

8) Concerning Ordinance No. 1408 to amend Sec. 21-04-05 of the City Code pertaining to driving while license is

suspended or revoked to allow a charge under this section to be dismissed on the motion of the defendant if his

license is reinstated within sixty days of the offense and he provides satisfactory evidence to the court proving

the reinstatement.

9) Concerning Ordinance No. 1409 to amend Sec. 21-04-06 of the City Code pertaining to driving under the

influence of intoxicating liquor, drugs or other substances to include additional restrictions on who may not

drive or be in actual physical control of any vehicle and to increase the minimum mandatory sentence for a first

and second offense under this section and include additional penalties.

10) Concerning Ordinance No. 1410 to amend Sec. 21-04-17 of the City Code pertaining to driving without liability

insurance to allow an individual charged with the offense to provide proof of insurance through written or

electronic means. Removes the twenty (20) day time limitation to provide proof of insurance to the officer and

now requires that proof be made to the court. Amends the offense from a class B misdemeanor to an infraction

and requires that upon a second conviction any impounded motor vehicle plates be delivered to the court, who

will then deliver them to the arresting police officer.

11) Concerning Ordinance No. 1411 to amend Sec. 21-08-01 of the City Code pertaining to immediate notice of

accidents to reduce the fine for a violation under this section from one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) to fifty

dollars ($50.00) and exempts a driver involved in an accident with an undomesticated animal from the

mandatory reporting provision when the only property damage is to the driver’s vehicle.

12) Concerning Ordinance No. 1412 to amend Sec. 21-14-04 of the City Code pertaining to permits for vehicles of

excessive size and weight to allow permits issued for vehicles of excessive size and weight travelling on nonpermitted

city streets to display the permit in printed or electronic format.

13) Concerning Ordinance No. 1413 to amend Sec. 22-15.1 of the City Code pertaining to carrying loaded firearms in

vehicle and allowing individuals with a valid concealed weapons permit to carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

14) Concerning Ordinance No. 1414 to amend Sec. 22-44.2 of the City Code pertaining to the offense of theft to

increase the threshold for class B misdemeanor thefts to five hundred dollars ($500.00).

15) Concerning Ordinance No. 1415 to amend Sec. 22-49.1 of the City Code pertaining to possession of firearms at

public gatherings and now allowing individuals possessing a class 1 concealed weapons license to carry their

firearm in a church or place of worship with the approval of the primary religious leader and allowing an

instructor, a test administrator, an official, or a participant in educational, training, cultural or competitive

events to possess a firearm at a public gathering.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The renamed “Community Music Fest,” is set for Sunday August 25, 2013, from 3-7-p.m., at Atonement Lutheran Church in Jamestown.

Beth Dewald of Jamestown says the event previously featured bluegrass music, however, the music will now span bluegrass, Southern Gospel and Christian Rock. Barbershop harmony will be provided by Cheaper Than Therapy of Jamestown.

A free will offering will be collected with half the proceeds benefiting the Buffalo Valley Red Cross Chapter in Jamestown, and half going to the Community Action Region Six Backpack Program for children in need. Supplemental funds provided by Stutsman County Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

At the event, in addition to the music there will be BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, salads, desserts, fresh popcorn and a soda sale, plus, children’s activities.

Bring along a blanket or chair to spread out under the big top.

Jamestown, ND, July 26, 2013 — Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) Foundation held its annual GOLF “fore” GOOD tournament on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Jamestown Country Club with title sponsors The Davis Group, IRET Properties and Timco Construction.

The proceeds from this year’s tournament went to support new technology and equipment for JRMC by helping to reach the goal to purchase a DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) machine. This equipment helps support the early diagnosis of osteoporosis along with total body composition scans.

More than 120 golfers enjoyed the four-person scramble tournament. The highlight of the day came when Brady Schoeler was just inches away from a hole-in-one for Wilhelm Chevrolet Buick GMC’s car give-a-way on hole four.

JRMC Foundation Director, Lisa Jackson says, “We could not have had a successful event without the support of our sponsors, community, vendors, staff and volunteers.

The tournament raised $33,994 dollars. There were over 55 team and tournament sponsors which helped raise these funds. Over $30,000 in prizes and gift certificates were given away to the participating teams.

The winners of the tournament were as follows: first place was BrandomActs with Heather Erholtz, Glen Hasselberg, Derek Hasselberg and Cydney Hasselberg; second place was Argent Farms with Reed Argent, Jim Argent, Ross Argent and Ryan Voxland; draw from the remaining team was Timco Construction with Eric Kobeska, Jeff Mauder, Russ Miller and Mark Ward.

  MINTO, N.D. (AP) – Family members of a northeastern North Dakota man who was swept away by spring floodwaters are still seeking closure three months later.
 
     Fifty-five-year-old Guy Miller was in a pickup truck that was washed off a gravel road west of Minto on April 29. The vehicle was later recovered but efforts to find Miller’s body have not succeeded.
 
     There have been several organized searches. Family members and friends also have combed the area on foot, on all-terrain vehicles and in canoes. The support has been overwhelming but their ordeal won’t end until Miller’s body is found.
 
     The last official search occurred about two weeks ago. Brother Tony Miller says another organized search might happen next month.

 

 GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man who became an advocate for tougher drunken driving laws after losing family members in a crash says a state senator who pleaded guilty to a DUI charge should step down.
 
     Park River Sen. Joe Miller pleaded guilty earlier this month to speeding, having an open container of alcohol and being in actual physical control of a motor vehicle. He has paid $500 in fines.
 
     Miller has publicly apologized and says he hopes people will forgive him. He says he will not give up his seat.
 
     Lynn Mickelson, whose daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter were killed by a drunk driver going the wrong way on Interstate 94, says Miller’s apology is not enough.
 
     Mickelson says  legislators should be held to higher standards.

 

NEW YORK (AP) – Amazon.com is looking to fill 7,000 jobs in North Dakota and 12 other states. The company says it will add 5,000 full-time jobs at its U.S. distribution centers. The company is also adding 2,000 customer service jobs in North Dakota, Kentucky, Washington and West Virginia.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A longtime 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judge from North Dakota has been recognized for serving 45 years on the bench.
 
     A party for 94-year-old Judge Myron Bright was held Saturday in Fargo. He has been a federal judge since he was appointed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968. He has ruled on more than 7,000 cases.
 
     Bright has been a teacher at the University of North Dakota, University of Minnesota, St. Louis University and the University of Hawaii law schools.
 
     Bright says he has tried to deliver justice according to the law.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The military says Specialist Jennie Dushane is the first female soldier in the North Dakota National Guard to become qualified for a special shooting designation. The Guard says Dushane earned the Squad Designated Marksman distinction during training in Arkansas. DuShane is a military police officer from West Fargo. She serves in the Guard’s 191st Military Police Company.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota gardeners are urged to donate surplus fruits and vegetables to a program that helps feed the hungry around the state.
 
     The Hunger Free ND Garden Project is in its fourth year. In the first three years, nearly 400 tons of produce was distributed to food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters.
 
     State Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says backyard gardeners, farmers market vendors and large-scale growers all can help out.

 

 KILLDEER, N.D. (AP) – A historic property near Killdeer is in need of repair from storms that ripped through Dunn County earlier this month.
 
     The 85-year-old farmstead built by Frank and Veronica Hutmacher is owned by Preservation North Dakota. The property includes a house, garage and granary, all built with rock and mortar.
 
 A volunteer group inspected the damage earlier in the week and found that the roofs on the house and garage were damaged.
 
     The property was occupied by the family from 1928 until 1979. The Hutmachers never had running water. They installed electricity and a phone line in the 1960s.
 
     The farmstead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a “Save America’s Treasures” project.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Protecting honeybees is the focus of a conference in Bismarck on Wednesday.
 
     North Dakota leads the nation in the production of honey. State Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the North Dakota Pollinator Summit is aimed at protecting the bees that make that honey.
 
     Goehring says it’s an opportunity to promote better understanding among beekeepers, farmers and pesticide applicators. Agriculture Department officials will use information from the meeting to draft a state pollinator protection plan.

 

 MEDORA, N.D. (AP) – Officials at Theodore Roosevelt National Park plan to round up more than 100 horses this fall to thin the herd.
 
     The surplus horses will be sold at auction on Sept. 28 in Wishek. Horse advocates are mounting Facebook campaigns to spread the word in the hopes of placing the horses with caring buyers.
 
     Advocates say that after the last horse roundup in the park, in 2009, eight of the 77 horses sold at auction ended up going to slaughterhouses.
 
     The park maintains a demonstration herd of what it calls feral horses to commemorate the wild horses that roamed the badlands when Theodore Roosevelt ranched in the area during the 1880s. Spokeswoman Eileen Andes says the herd has grown beyond the ideal size for the park.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — About 150 cars competed Saturday at the drag races held at Jmaestown Regional Airport.

It’s estimated that 600 people were on hand, the first day of the two day event.

The first drags at the airport organized by the Jamestown Drag Racing Association was in 2001.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Coaches in the Missouri Valley Football Conference are ready to talk about a new season.

The league has scheduled a teleconference with all 10 coaches on Monday morning, following the release of the pre-season poll and pre-season all-conference team.

North Dakota State is a unanimous choice to repeat as league champion. Coach Craig Bohl’s Bison have won back-to-back Football Championship Subdivision titles.

Other coaches are Dale Lennon of Southern Illinois, Brock Spack of Illinois State, Joe Glenn of South Dakota, John Stiegelmeier of South Dakota State, Mike Sanford of Indiana State, Eric Wolford of Youngstown State, Terry Allen of Missouri State, Bob Nielson of Western Illinois, and Mark Farley of Northern Iowa.

League commissioner Patty Viverito is also scheduled to speak Monday.

 

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The old Ralph Engelstad Arena on the University of North Dakota campus is coming down at 10 o’clock this morning. The building that opened its doors in 1972 was the site of 593 UND hockey games. It was replaced in 2001 by the new Ralph Engelstad Arena, a $100 million facility.

  NEW YORK (AP) – Derek Jeter homered on the first pitch he saw following his return from a strained quad. Jeter went 2-for-4 and scored twice in his second game of the season and first since July 11, helping the New York Yankees beat Tampa Bay 6-5. The Rays fell into second place with the loss, a half-game behind the Boston Red Sox.

  OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Angels manager Mike Scioscia (SOH’-shuh) says slugger Albert Pujols (POO’-hohlz) will be sidelined for “a significant amount of time.” Pujols has been placed on the disabled list with a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot, an injury that has bothered him most of the season. Pujols is hitting .258 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs.
 
     COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) – Three men who have been dead for more than seven decades have been enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Former New York Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert and stars from the 1800’s Hank O’Day and James “Deacon” White make up the class of 2013.

 

MIAMI (AP) – Tino Martinez has resigned as the Miami Marlins’ hitting coach after players complained he verbally abused them.
 
     Martinez apologized for his behavior, saying he got in trouble for comments to players he intended as constructive criticism.

 

NASCAR…

 INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Ryan Newman snapped a 49-race winless drought by capturing the Brickyard 400 in his home state of Indiana.  The pole sitter and South Bend native took over the lead late in the race and rolled across the finish line comfortably in front of points-leader Jimmie Johnson.  It’s Newman’s first win since taking the checkered flag at Martinsville in March last year.
 
     Johnson was dominating until a slow pit stop with 27 laps to go put him too far back to catch Newman. Johnson led 73 of the 160 laps

 

Johnson, the Sprint Cup Series points leader who was hoping to tie Formula One’s Michael Schumacher as the only five-time winners in Indy history, finished 2.657 seconds behind Newman in second.

Kasey Kahne, Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, was third and Stewart was fourth as Chevrolet swept the top four spots. All four cars were also powered by Hendrick Motorsports.

Matt Kenseth was fifth in a Toyota and followed by Hendrick’s Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon, as all four Hendrick entries landed inside the top seven. Earnhardt rallied from a loose wheel on the opening run of the race to grab the top-10 finish.

Joey Logano was eighth in a Ford, and followed by Juan Pablo Montoya and Kyle Busch, who picked up his first career win at the Brickyard in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race.

 OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) – Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta could miss the entire season after having surgery on his fractured and dislocated hip.
 
     The operation took place late Saturday, according to a team official.
 
     Pitta’s status for the 2013 season remains unclear.
 
     The injury occurred Saturday during the third day of training camp, when Pitta collided with a defender while trying to catch a pass from Joe Flacco.

 PGA-CANADIAN OPEN
 
 
     OAKVILLE, Ontario (AP) – Brandt Snedeker shot a final round 2-under to win the Canadian Open for his second victory of the season and fifth of his career.
 
     Dustin Johnson had to settle for a four-way tie for second after a triple-bogey on the 17th hole. He shot a 70 to t6ie with Matt Kuchar (KOO’-chur), Williams McGirt and Jason Bohn, three shots behind Snedeker.
 
     CHAMPIONS TOUR-BRITISH SENIOR OPEN
 
     SOUTHPORT, England (AP) – Bernhard Langer and Mark Wiebe (WEE’-bee) were tied after two playoff holes in the storm-delayed Senior British Open when darkness suspended play at Royal Birkdale.
 
     They will finish the playoff Monday morning.
 
     Wiebe shot a 4-under 66 to match Langer at 9-under 271. Langer had a 70.
 
     Langer blew a two-stroke lead with a double bogey on the final hole of regulation after hitting into a greenside bunker.

 

SOCCER-GOLD CUP
 
     CHICAGO (AP) – Brek Shea scored less than a minute after entering the game as a second-half substitute, giving the United States a 1-0 victory over Panama in the Gold Cup final. It is the fifth Gold Cup title for the Americans, but their first since 2007. The victory also extended the Americans’ winning streak to a team-record 11 games.

     BAGHDAD (AP) – Insurgents continue their campaign to undermine the Iraqi government through violent acts. A wave of over a dozen car bombings hit central and southern Iraq during morning rush hour on today, killing at least 51 people in mostly Shiite areas.
 
     CAIRO (AP) – The European Union’s foreign policy chief plans meetings in Cairo today in an attempt to mediate an end to the political deadlock in Egypt. Catherine Ashton’s second visit to the Egyptian capital this month is seen as a sign of the alarm felt in the West over the continuing bloodshed. Meanwhile, Egyptian police have arrested two leaders of an Islamist party, the latest to be swept up in a crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – The Chandra Levy (SHAHN’-druh LEE’-vee) case will be back in a Washington courtroom today, a dozen years after her disappearance. Prosecutors and defense attorneys are expected to discuss how much more information can be made public about a key prosecution witness who could be discredited. Ingmar Guandique (gwahn-DEE’-kay) was convicted of Levy’s death and sentenced to 60 years in prison but the defense now says it will request a new trial.
 
     NEW DELHI (AP) – The $4 billion estate of an Indian maharaja is headed back into the hands of his daughters after a court ruling that a will putting the fortune into a trust run by his former servants is a forgery. The ruling ends a decades-long fight in which the princesses said that palace officials schemed to usurp the ailing royal’s billions with a phony will.
