Elmer Batsch, 88, Jamestown, ND formerly of Gackle, ND, died early Wednesday morning November 24, 2021 at Ave Maria in Jamestown, ND.

Elmer Batsch was born August 28, 1933 on the family farm near Gackle, ND, the son Edward Batsch and Bertha (Gumke) Batsch. He received his elementary education in the local school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he worked on the family farm.

He and Doris Mitzel November 28, 1957 at St. Helena’s Church in Ellendale, ND.

They made their home on a farm 12 miles south of Gackle until 1984 when they built a new home and moved into Gackle.  He then worked at the Coop Oil in Gackle.     Following their retirement, they have continued to reside in Gackle until recently when they moved into Jamestown.

He was a member of the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown, ND.  He also was a member of St. Annes Catholic Church in Gackle where he served as Treasurer for many years.  He served 18 years as a county commissioner in Logan County, served as a fireman and on the Gackle Cemetery Board.

Surviving is his wife Doris, Jamestown, ND; three children, Duane Batsch, Kulm, ND; Bryan (Karen) Batsch, Gackle, ND; Julie (Darrel) Klundt, Devils Lake, ND; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Leonard (Charlotte) Batsch, Valley City, ND; sisters, Annetta (Arnold) Schlecht, Gackle, ND and Doris (Clifton) Hill, Columbia, MO, sister-in-law, Violet Batsch, Jamestown, ND; brother-in-law, Mel Schuldt, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Lorraine, Gertrude, Florence; an infant sister, 7 brothers, Edwin, Ray, Jack, Norbert, Marvin, Roland and Eugene.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday November 29, 2021 in the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown, ND with Father Neil Pfeifer, pastor officiating.

Visitation –1-5 Sunday at the Funeral Home

Burial will take place in the Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle, ND

Arrangements are by the Haut Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Jamestown, ND.
