Al Mayer, 88, Jamestown, ND died December 1, 2021 at Eventide in Jamestown.
Alvin was born April 1, 1933 at Streeter, ND, the son of Gust and Agnes (Deutscher) Mayer. The family moved to Montpelier in 1938, where Al attended school and helped his family farm and raise cattle.
He and Vera Flaig were married October 12, 1952 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Jamestown. Al was involved with cattle and Registered Quarter Horses, showed horses for many years. He was a Foundation Quarter Horse Judge and Lifetime member of the ND Quarter Horse Association. In 1989 he was named ND Quarter Horseman of the Year. Also, the James Valley Quarter Horse Club. A member and one of the organizers of the ND Quarter Horse Breeders Association. A member of the National Quarter Horse Association and Paint Horse Association. A life member of the Elks Club and Eagles Club. He was also an auctioneer, member of the ND Auction Association and was inducted into the ND Auctioneer Hall of Fame in 2010.
Al was employed with Lindberg Construction and became foreman and Superintendent for 24 years. He was also a partner of Curtis Oil Equipment business in Jamestown.
He and Dorothy Gartner were married August 13, 1973 at Valley City, ND. Since 1975 he has been a full-time rancher, auctioneer of Mayer Auction since 1980 until 2018 and did Livestock trucking. Al retired in 2019.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, Jamestown, ND; 3 daughters, Deb (Bob) Adamus, Apple Valley, MN; Karen (Joe) Yuhas, Shakopee, MN; Nadine Mayer, Minneapolis, MN; 2 step children, Connie (Richard) Spillman, Billings, MT; Ron Gartner, Fargo, ND; a good as an adopted son, Travis Nannenga, Jamestown, ND; 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Clayton Mayer, Minto, ND; and 1 sister, Elaine Mayer, Minneapolis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Calvin, twin brother and sister, in and 2 sisters, Eileen and DeElda.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Monday December 6, 2021 in the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Jennifer McDonald, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
