Gladys Lorraine (Klose) Zimney, 90, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 surrounded by her family. G. Lorraine was born April 8, 1931 to Frank and Gladys (Walters) Klose on their family farm south of Homer Township. She married her soul mate Paul Thomas (Bud) Zimney on January 19, 1950 in Jamestown where they raised their 12 children.

In high school she worked at the White Drug lunch counter and her summers were spent working in the hay fields for area farmers. She was dubbed “Rainy” by her Uncle Elmer Walters and she acquired her mother’s deep love of horses which remained with her throughout her lifetime. Her hard work and this love of horses got her a job at Mr. Dingles riding stable located at Jamestown College, where she advanced into a partnership with him. There she met the love of her life, Bud. Together they continued to raise and ride horses, teaching their children to do the same. She was a charter member of the New West Heritage Riding Club (along with her mother Gladys and sister Linda) where they performed in many parades and rodeos.

She worked as a tax accountant before starting at White Drug working in the Accounting Department. She also worked for several accounting firms during tax season. The job she loved most was working at Jamestown College where she ran the Service Department and retired after 30+ years.

Her lifetime was spent with family: camping, singing, cooking, canning, fishing, hunting, playing cards, golfing, pool league, casino trips, storytelling, riding in her sons “hot rod” cars, trips with the Unison Good Neighbors Club to many plays and concerts in the area. She went along with her children on many of their vacations, she was always ready and willing to do and go anywhere at any time.

She is survived by six daughters: Kathy (Sonny) Jorgenson, Pelican Rapids, MN; Toni (Jim) Tanata; Bobbie (Lloyd) Landscoot; Cindy (Jack) Clemens all of Jamestown; Ronnie (Wayne) Mickelson, Spiritwood; Jenny Zimney of Jamestown. Three sons: David (Lori) Zimney, Jamestown; Daryl (Jean) Zimney, Buchanan and Paul Zimney Jr. of Jamestown. Son-in-law Alan Wibstad of Montpelier. 34 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. One sister Linda (Harry) Ebele of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by parents Gladys and Frank Klose; husband Paul Sr.; daughter Betty Wibstad and her son Tucker; sons Doug and Dan Zimney Sr. Her siblings Elmer Klose; William Klose; and Beverly Wagner.

Mom believed every day is a day when we need a hug and she knew how to give the best!
