Thelma Barnick, 93, Jud, North Dakota passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Ave Maria Village Nursing Home, Jamestown, North Dakota.

Thelma Geneva (Bakke) Barnick,93 was born February 6, 1929 to Elmer and Tilda (Bue) Bakke In McVille, North Dakota. After graduating from McVille high school, she attended Mayville State College where she received her teaching degree in music and business. While at Mayville College she was a soloist in the choir and throughout her adult life continued to sing for weddings and funerals. She married Leroy Barnick on June 26, 1955 at Sheyenne Lutheran and they have celebrated 66 years together. After their wedding, they lived at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for 10 months where Leroy was stationed with the US Army. They then returned to the family farm, rural Jud, ND. The couple farmed together and were blessed with four children. Thelma also taught piano lessons in her home and played for church services/taught Sunday school at Saint Paul’s Lutheran, Jud. Thelma moved to Eventide Assisted Living in September 2020 where she resided until her hospitalization March 6, 2022.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother – always supporting her family and making their lives better. She was a woman of faith, wisdom and fun. Family and friends were always welcome in their home and did not go away hungry.

Thelma is survived by her husband Leroy Barnick, Jamestown, ND; children Carol (Neil) Erickson, Brookings, SD, Donna (Mark) Olson, Blue Earth, MN, Douglas (Barb) Barnick, Jud, ND, Joanne Barnick, Jamestown, ND; six grandchildren Tyler (Rachel) Erickson, Brookings, SD, Tonia (Matthew) Hulst, Denver, CO, Marie (Matthew) Mehlhaf, Menno, SD, Courtney (Derrick) Seiler, Fargo, ND, Tonie (Andrew) Stoen, Jamestown, ND, Sonni (Taylor) Nagel, Fargo, ND; eight great-grandchildren Zadok and Hannah Erickson, Aila, Selah and Bode Hulst, Willow Seiler, Navy and Isaac Nagel; sister-in-law Joan Bakke and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer (Tilda) Bakke, father and mother-in-law, Harvey (Freda) Barnick, brother Elmer, sister-in-law Rosanne Bird, brother-in-law Wayne Bird.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 21, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Erik Weber officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
