Barbara J. Knutson, 83, Jamestown, ND passed away early Saturday morning April 16, 2022 at her home in Jamestown, ND under hospice care and care of her daughter and friends.
Barbara J. Messner was born February 27, 1939, the daughter of Theodore Messner and Margaret (Myrhow) Messner. She was raised on the farm near Sanborn, ND. She received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm. She graduated from the Sanborn High School and later attended Interstate Business College. She then utilized her education working as a secretary for the ND Winter Show.
She and Gerald Knutson were married and made their home in various place before settling in Jamestown where Barb worked at Parkway Café for many years, and Community Action. She also worked for 25 years for Bethel 4 Acres in Jamestown until her retirement.
She was a member of Victory Lutheran Church where she was very active in Bible Studies, her faith was very dear to her. She also was the secretary for Prison Ministries and played piano for Sunday School at Hi-Acres Manor for many years. Barb was a great cook and had a green thumb. She was a dedicated Mother and Grandma attending as many of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Barb has a great love for Basketball, attending game even after her children were out of school.
Surviving is her daughter, Karla (Bruce) Emery, Laverne, ND; Son’s, Eric Knutson, Grafton, ND; Shawn Knutson, Lakeville, MN; Dana Knutson, Jamestown, ND; step brothers, Ryan Knutson and Justin Brantingham; 5 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Legge, and one brother, Willard (Harriet) Messner, all of Jamestown, ND;
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Lonty, two brothers, Donald and Ted.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday April 23. 2022 in the Haut Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.
Visitation – 9-7 Friday at the Funeral Home.
Prayer Service – 7:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Home.
Burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, Sanborn, ND.
Arrangements are by the Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND
