Wilfert H. Thom, 91, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of rural Edgeley, ND, passed away Friday night, June 24, 2022 at Eventide, Jamestown.
Wilfert Thom was born March 7, 1931, at Edgeley, the son of Herman and Melvena (Poss) Thom. He attended country schools in Ray Township and graduated from Edgeley High School in 1949. Wilfert married Helen Ziemann on August 31, 1951 at Breckenridge, MN. They farmed at the family farmstead northwest of Edgeley milking cows, raising small grains, and many sheep and chickens. He loved his farm animals and working the land. He also worked for the Soil Conservation, planting tree and cultivating. Helen passed away in 1980, and then Wilfert moved to Jamestown where he worked for the North Dakota State Hospital for 30 years.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting pheasants and deer. Wilfert was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Diesem, and later Edgeley.
Wilfert is survived by his son, Jerry (Nola) Thom, Edgeley; daughter, Dorothy (Bob) Hidy, North Manchester, IN; five grandchildren, Kayla (Eddie) Souza, Hagerstown, MD, Johnny (Amy) Thom, Bismarck, ND, Landyn Thom, Lincoln, NE; Christopher Hoyt, Grass Valley, CA, and Vanessa (Tony) Rickert, CA; seven great-grandchildren, Emory, Molly, and Aubrey Thom, Brooklyn Souza, Reagen Hoyt, Destiny and Dacotah Rickert.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; grandson, Matthew Thom; and seven sisters, Gerta Podoll, Ethel Hanson, Ruth Klamen, Violet Klamen, Alice Wessels, Ruby Doss, and Myrtle Christensen.
Funeral Service – 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Edgeley, ND with Pastor Peter Simpson officiating.
Visitation – One hour before the service at the church.
Burial – Mt. Hope Cemetery, Edgeley, ND.
Arrangements are in the care of Williams Funeral Chapel, Edgeley.
