On Sunday July 31, 2022, after a courageous 11-year battle with cancer, MacKenzie Lind Gerszewski went to her heavenly home surrounded by her immediate and medical family.

MacKenzie was born January 4, 1996, in Marshall MN to parents Steve and Kristi (Lind) Gerszewski. She attended St. John’s Academy, graduated with honors from Jamestown High School, and earned a Biochemistry degree from the University of Jamestown. MacKenzie went on to pursue her dream of becoming a physician after being accepted to Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine and was in her third year of medical school.

She embraced life with a competitive nature and a thirst for knowledge. As a child she participated in girl scouts, 4H, hippology, softball, and volleyball. MacKenzie was always very strong in her faith, enjoyed Christian Mimes, was a Eucharistic minister and attended bible study. She enjoyed watersports, downhill skiing, fishing, horseback riding, and camping.

MacKenzie fit a lifetime of experiences into her 26 years. She was part of a medical mission to Haiti led by her family physician, Dr. Tonia Hoggarth. She was privileged to shadow and help with research at the University of Minnesota alongside the people who treated her. Making connections came easy for Mackenzie and through those connections she was blessed with many mentors including her doctors, colleagues, and professors who she loved and respected greatly.

MacKenzie is survived by her parents Steve and Kristi Gerszewski; sisters Kaitlin, Kennedy, and Emmie; fiancé Bruce Klootwyk; grandmother, Trudy Gerszewski; grandparents, Fran and Janet Gerszewski; Nana, Judy Lind; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends. She was preceded in death by her Papa, Loren Lind and Grandpa, Bill Sells.
