Bismarck (CSi) — A 16-year-old has been arrested in northwest Minnesota after police said the teen fatally shot a 28-year-old man at a Bismarck motel.

The teen was taken into custody Saturday morning, September 24, in Warren, Minnesota, about 30 miles northwest of Grand Forks. Police in Bismarck alleged the teenager is responsible for the death of 28-year-old Maurice Thunder Shield.

Police say, Thunder Shield, of McLaughlin, South Dakota, was found with a gunshot wound to his chest at about 12:40 a.m. Friday at the Motel 6, 2433 State Street in Bismarck. He was declared dead at a hospital..

Police did not disclose the name or gender of the 16-year-old, nor did they comment on a motive for the shooting.

Evidence and witness interviews led investigators to believe the teen shot Thunder Shield and left the hotel.

Police say they are investigating a homicide at a motel in North Dakota’s capital city Friday September 23. According to a statement from police, officers responded to the Motel 6 in Bismarck about 12:40 a.m. on a report of a person who had been shot in the chest.
