Glenna Rae (Long) Monek, beloved wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to many died April 21, 2022 in Jamestown, ND. Glenna was born August 9, 1931 in Bowsmont, ND to Harold and Ruth (Lewis) Long. She married Donald Monek in 1954 and they raised their three children, Holly, Martin (daughter-in-law Anita), and Bruce on the Monek family farm east of Jamestown. Glenna was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Minot and worked as a Registered Nurse for many years.
After Don’s death in 1986 Glenna moved to Jamestown. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered at organizations around town until mobility issues kept her close to home.
When grandchildren arrived, she spent much time with Eric, Christian, Heather and Becky and they have fond memories of her. She also enjoyed her bonus grandchildren, grandchildren of long-time family friends the Bartle family.
Glenna lost many people dear to her over the years after being orphaned and widowed at young ages: friends, siblings, in-laws, nephews, son-in-law, and her youngest son Bruce. She remained close to his widow, Sandy. She spoke regularly with her one remaining sister, Dorothy.
She was an accomplished crafter, quilter, sewer, cook, and baker. She made Holly’s and Anita’s wedding dresses.
A memorial service for Glenna will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with a lunch at the church following. The service will be streamed on Glenna’s obituary page at eddyfuneralhome.com. Memorials are suggested to Jamestown Regional Medical Center or Trinity Lutheran Church.
Eddy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
